Have Aston Villa any intimation of which player is better than Rogers and if that player is so very good, surely would cost as least as what they received for Rogers, a matter which any selling club would be aware.

Depends on their valuation of the player and Chelsea’s. Knowing Chelsea and their daft owner, they probably think the deal is priced in dollars

They may not necessarily be trying to get an equivalent single player, but to improve multiple areas of the team. They’ve also sold Tielemans, so potentially two midfielders required.

A typical commuter-belt part of north-west England
On a more mundane level, I note that amongst the coming season fixtures in the Northern Premier League, Premier Division, newly-promoted Bury are drawn away at Redcar

Other opening season fixtures featuring local teams to my area are:-

Hyde United v Emley
Ashton United v Lancaster City
Curzon Ashton v Alfrteton Town
Warrington Rylands v FC United of Manchester.

Chelsea did not enjoy the best of seasons last time and it was blatantly obvious that player improvements were urgently required for this coming season
Plus, if Arsenal were interested, he's certainly got it.

Still need to upgrade at the back though. Should have gone all in for Maignan and Guehi last summer.

Police in Ashton are going to be stretched that day.

Cheating Southampton staff charged by the FA in relation to spygate:

Southampton head coach Tonda Eckert has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association for his role in the Spygate scandal.

Saints were kicked out of the Championship play-offs in May after admitting they spied on three clubs during the campaign.

An independent disciplinary commission ruled at the time that the espionage was authorised by Eckert and was a "contrived and determined plan from the top down".

Police in Ashton are going to be stretched that day.
with the 14 people attending these games? These are not high risk games. They are unsegregated and fairly relaxed. You can even have a pint on the terraces.

Very sad news about the passing of Kevin Keegan today.
it is very sad news .I am not a Newcastle fan by any means but Keegan seemed like a decent bloke and a fantastic footballer.

I had assumed that Morgan Rogers was a key Aston Villa player around which they could strengthen their team.
"Aston Villa is delighted to announce that Morgan Rogers has signed a new contract with the club.
The England international has agreed a deal that will keep him at Villa until 203
1."
AVFC10 November 25

So eight months after siging a new contract he's gone!
Signed for £8million in 2024 and sold for £117million, Middlesborugh will get £20million of that.

Aston Villa have an awful knack of refusing to refer to themselves in the corporate plural.

Aston Villa ARE shooting from right to left, not Aston Villa is!

Aston Villa is a football club and is a football team, both in the singular.

Clearly you've heard of plural nouns in British English because you use them like a normal person does.

Swindon are now facing multiple charges from the FA and EFL, and Luton are not necessarily out of the Vertu Trophy!

Palace are an established Premier League club

Littlehampton Town of Isthmian 1 South Central are the lucky beneficiaries.

In the North division Bedford are an outlier, just as Darlington are

Very sad news about the passing of Kevin Keegan today.

Very sad indeed. I once saw Kevin playing for Scunthorpe Juniors against Bradford Juniors in the Northern Intermediate League. I must look and see if I still have the teamsheet. Kevin also played for Scunthorpe in the last ever FL game at Park Avenue in April 1970. Scunthorpe won 5-0, but Kevin didn't score.

Later correction - I have now found the team sheet - it looks like it was a reserve game in the North Midlands league, not a junior Northern Intermediate League game - sorry. RIP Kevin.

bpa res v scunthorpe res 1969 (small).jpge s was I may have

Flabbergasted that Argentina have been given a bye to qualify for the 2030 World Cup because they are hosting an anniversary game in their country, according to a leaked letter from the FIFA president, who also congratulated them on their final result. The team only have to play friendlies.Over 20 million people signed a petition to act over their behaviour in the final, including the banner about Argentina is theirs.
I can't see any sanctions towards them being served now!

This is no secret - it's been known for some time that they are qualifying automatically as a host nation, along with Uruguay and Paraguay. It was posted on the FIFA website on 19th March this year.

Such sanctions will probably end up being ordered to play a couple of meaningless friendlies behind closed doors

In exactly the same way as Spain and Portugal take two of the UEFA places and Morocco take one of the CAF places.

English football is going to undertake a trial to eliminate the curse of "injured" goalkeepers, with an outfield player required to leave the pitch for one minute if the physio is called on to the keeper.

BBC report here.

Well we'll see how it goes but one minute is not enough, goalie fakes injury for 2 to 3 minutes, play is broken up, physio gets some instructions on from the bench, an attacker goes off for one minute, defence reverts to a flat back five and get ten players behind the ball for a minute and job done.

Whether it is enough remains to be seen, but at least something is being tried.

Eddie Howe leaves the blood money boys with immediate effect:

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is set to leave the club with immediate effect, sources have told BBC Sport.

Howe came under pressure last season as Newcastle finished 12th in the Premier League after losing 17 of their 38 games.

The 48-year-old's final match in charge was a 4-1 defeat by Bristol City in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday.
