I can hardly listen to the news from Newcastle any more. I don't think they are in too much of a hurry (the IMHO Ludicrous UEFA financial regulations don't kick in until next season) but it's pointless having him around when he isn't going to be used. He still is a very talented and useful player but with City's squad he would never get a look in.

I too think that Beckham is vastly overrated. Credit to him, he was good at Man U (sometimes.) But, he, and the public have to accept that he has passed his best.

What do you propose? We had the best defence in the league last season; most number of clean sheets and least number of goals scored (Source: Premier League).

Vincent Kompany - normally absolutely solid; everyone makes the odd mistake, don't they?

Joleon Lescott - is also usually solid; better than Kolo Toure and a very capable centre-half

Micah Richards - very good young right-back; arguably one of the best English right-backs in the league

Alexander Kolarov - waste of space; not bad going forward and can put a decent cross in but absolutely useless as a full-back. Gael Clichy must start ahead of him every time.

So, with all that in mind, please do tell me what you would do with our defence to improve it?

Compared with last season, the signing of Gael Clichy is the very one that I had in mind, as you have said yourself above, to replace Kolarov who has some issues with defending....but will your manager see matters as you do?

After Saturdays win against Rochdale I am quite happy as well as we looked solid for once, however the Carling cup game tomorrow night at Hillsborough against Blackpool could be a different story.

The ironic thing about when Blackpool got promotion into the premiership while we got relegated into league one was that we beat Blackpool in both league games that season. We also tend to do well against Norwich as well, beating them the last 8 games on the trot. Just a shame we don't do too well against the other 90 teams in the league though.
