I don't mind the name, and the Council policy sounds like a good one to me. Would you rather it had the name of a gulf state airline in a sports washing attempt?

What is laughable is Celtic against Braga at the moment :D
It's so tragic when the old firm don't get the dodgy decisions in Europe that they get so frequently in the SPL :lol:

Given there's apparently no money involved, what was wrong with Leigh Sports Village? The policy is good, but the name is daft. It sounds like something out of 1984.

Now, you mention it, the term 'sports village' is a rather grand term for a multi sports centre with a few AstroTurf pitches and a swimming pool!

Very much a case of when not if. I can't help but feel sorry for him, though - it's not his fault that the board appointed him, and there is absolutely no excuse for the kind of abuse he suffered.

That being said, I really don't see what he's done to get the kind of managerial roles he's got. I saw a few matches at MK Dons when they were under his tutelage, and he didn't come across as a terrible manager by any means - he came across as somebody who had a very defined way of playing, and was excellent at coaching that into his side, but very tactically stubborn, even then. (But then, what do I know? I recall being very impressed by Lawrence Vigouroux, and not very impressed by a certain Robert Sanchez...) I've seen no evidence of that trend being bucked anywhere else. I really hope he can find a role where it works out for him, but maybe a spell working under a more experienced coach would work (as I've heard people saying about Rooney)?

Incidentally, I've checked my Football Manager save-game (cue for another thread, for those of us who wish to escape the fortunes of our real-life clubs? ;)) and he's in post at Chester in the National League North. Which is rather harsh.

Luton Town have sacked Matt Bloomfield after his 9 months in charge. It's no surprise in view of recent results and performances.

I've just counted up on wiki, and not counting caretakers, there have been 17 managerial appointments since 2015. Ludicrous.

Southport 1-3 FC Halifax Town

A comfortable win in front of almost 500 away fans saw Town into the first round proper of the FA Cup. Its also six wins in a row now for the first time in nearly a decade.

Even the unwritten rule of ex-players coming back to haunt their old clubs didn't kick in as none of the four former Halifax players in Southport XI did much

Onto Monday's draw, and we'll have the lowest ranked team left in the competition at home please, and then the longest trip of the season next Saturday for Truro away

It looks like @DarloRich will have a somewhat different story to tell about the magic of the cup

Andy Carroll played for Dagenham and Redbridge yesterday at Torquay United 0-0 draw. He has a small stake in the club and at 36 younger than I thought. He can still play and Torquay defenders managed to keep him quiet most of the time but his ability to hold the ball and bring other players into the game was still there.

Another victory for Scotland despite the manager's best efforts. A terrible performance again and we'll get battered by Denmark and Greece in our remaining games. We're running out of time to get rid of this muppet.......he picks the wrong team, sets the team up wrong and then is powerless to respond to the tactics of the opponents once the game has started
He needs to be sacked before it's too late.

The worst game I have ever seen and I have been watching this crap for 40 years! Awful. It should have been 10+. Check out the alleged highlights if you fancy a laugh:


it is like the people involved have never played football before. Worse actually as they didn't even chase the ball. A complete and utter embarrassment.

But that could've been 12 or 15, Telford butchered a load of really good chances

33 years following Halifax means I've seen my far share of awful performances, but they were generally because we had poor players for the league we were in or (Darren Kelly klaxon) had one of the worst "managers" in the history of football. (Great PowerPoint presentation though). Even then the players grafted.

The Darren Kelly management in numbers:

47 days
10 matches
2 wins; 1 draw; 7 losses
37 goals conceded
The two biggest home defeats in the (reformed) club's history; 1-7 in his first match and 3-6 in his last one
A 7-0 battering (hahaha) at Grimsby that could have been 20

By the end we were cheering the opposition, just to get rid of the clueless berk
