What grinds my gears is if United had turned up & made a decent game of it but lost I wouldn’t have minded so much
It was the fact that they were there & had no urgency about them until it was too late.
They’d scored 35 times in 14 Europa matches before tonight then they simply forgot how to.

It was either going to be a goal fest or a sloppy goal that decided it

See if we can beat the Villa now

Southend United equalised four minutes from the end of extra time, then won 4-2 on penalties.

Abysmal match. So little quality on show. Postecoglou has saved his job for now though Amorim is probably safe for a while anyway. One minor plus point: McCoist was less hysterical than usual, thankfully he's not doing the Conference final next week.

I suspect he will still get fired, they might have qualified for Europe next year but will still likely finish 17th with a points total which in previous years would have seen them drop to the championship.

Likewise the keeper of the trophy cabinet at Spuds has been fired, after management found out he lost the key to the cabinet 15 years ago and has been hiding it ever since

That was the worst game of football i have seen in a very long time and i am a Wigan Athletic fan.

It was pure dross between 2 very poor teams and was an embarrassment.

This is one thing I've never understood about football. It can be the worst game you've ever seen, an expensive waste of money. Ninety minutes of your life you'll never get back.... But if your team wins you're happy.

Note: I support Stoke. We suffer awful games. We win infrequently. I'm rarely happy

Drank a lot of beers with the NW Spurs FB group in Manc last night - work today (with a big client meeting too) was a bit painful but my MD was very understanding, he even joked to the client that I was barely awake due to the big night I had and the result. Poor quality game but I didn't care, got the trophy monkey off our back

Delighted for Ange but still think we will make a change due to our dreadful league form and I fully support that (not all Spurs fans agree, we are really split after last night). Parade, shake hands, status as a cult hero for Ange but find a manager who can get the team challenging on multiple fronts at once with a more balanced playing style.....

The Combined Counties League South play-offs finally begin today, several weeks after the regular season ended.

Jersey Bulls, Redhill, Stockton Town, Brighouse Town, ... deprived of their on field rewards by the FA for Admin errors. Any others?

In this day and age, you would expect the powers that be to set up an IT system where every club and player in the pyramid is registered and clubs enter their line ups 30 mins before kick off The system would then raise a flag if an ineligible player had been selected. Is this too much to ask?

The FA should be assisting the running of the game instead of running tribunals to pontificate on breaches of complex rules and blaming anybody but themselves.

No complaints from me - despite Celtic dominating possession, Aberdeen wanted it more and got the outcome their dogged determination deserved. I did wonder whether some of our players thought all they had to do was turn up - well, they know the answer to that now.

Chris Mepham has played in the premier league for Bournemouth.

Yes they need to recruit, but carefully and not at the expense of the team spirit that they’ve got going at the moment. The current lot are really tight knit and seem to genuinely play for each other not themselves.

No more ageing pros looking for the last big contract. Cough John O’Shea. Wes Brown.

No more random South Americans with good agents and highlights reels. Cough. Vergini

I think realistically a team looking to bridge the gap from championship to premier league can do it in two ways

One - have a “lucky” season and survive, and gradually build a squad

Two - yoyo for a bit using the parachute payments to build the squad

Can Sunlun survive? Yes, of course they can. Burnley won promotion off the back of a mean defence, and maintaining that in the premier league is nigh on impossible. Leeds are nothing special although if the rumours are true they’re going to be spending daft money. Any other team from 10th downwards can have a bad season and really struggle.

Yesterday was an amazing day. We were right up in the gods so the players looked like ants but the atmosphere was incredible and nobody gave up hope.

When Tommy Watson came on I turned to my partner - who has had a season ticket for 30+ years and followed them through thin and thinner - and said “he’s going to score the winner with his last kick as a Sunderland player”. Wish I’d had a bet on that!

As it is, I’m full of flu and have slept 8 hours in the last two nights but it’s all worth it to see her and her family so happy

(Oh. And yesterday morning I was having a wander from where we’re staying near Paddington and heard an odd noise coming from the station. Walked down the ramp and saw a pair of 20s pulling in!! Some charter for the rugby in Cardiff, 37240 on the other end. Which was nice)

I think the season threw up some unexpected results for the London teams.
Who would have had money on the Palace winning the F.A.Cup before the 3rd round games?
Tottenham (& probably Chelsea) winning European trophies, Charlton & Wimbledon getting promoted & even London by the Sea (Southend) one game away from getting back into the League.
As for the others - Arsenal flattered to deceive again, Orient made the Play Offs, and Brentford & Fulham were both in the top half of the Premier League which was impressive.
As for next season, will Spurs be the first to do something? I can't see the Aussie still being their Manager.

But, crucially you are also 4/5 weeks behind the two other newly promoted clubs in terms of transfers and preparation for the already uphill struggle of surviving the PL. It will be a herculean task for Sunderland to survive. Stranger things have happened though!

Also, as a Leeds season ticket holder; I’m already looking at the PL for one existing team that might drop into the bottom 3 to spare us relegation, but I can’t identify any likely candidate…

The gap is undoubtedly getting wider, and it might be that the most viable way of becoming an established premier league team is to yo-yo a couple of times (like Leeds are doing) using the parachute payments to build and maintain a stronger squad

As for one of the incumbents to get relegated - in most PL seasons there are between 3 and 5 teams who survive but with 9 or less points gap to the 18th placed team. That's three wins. It isn't impossible to imagine Leeds, Sunderland or whoever having a couple of lucky wins and someone else having a couple of unfortunate losses, etc etc
