Manchester United legend Denis Law has died at the age of 84, his family have announced.

Law, who revealed in August 2021 that he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and vascular dementia, is one of the United Trinity immortalised in a statue at Old Trafford alongside George Best and Sir Bobby Charlton. To fans, he was simply known as The King.

A statement from the Law family on Friday night read: 'It is with a heavy heart that we tell you our father Denis Law has sadly passed away. He fought a tough battle but finally he is now at peace.

I too saw him play many times against Stoke at the old Victoria Ground. Alongside George Best and Bobby Charlton that created one of the best forward lines ever.

Ok, back to football, just watched Burnley 0 Sunderland 0, James Trafford Burnley's keeper saved two late penalties from Sunderland's Wilsons Isidor about 10 minutes apart, both penalties were 'iffy' and VAR would certainly have shown that the first foul was outside the penalty area.

Yes the first was outside the box. VAR would have overturned it but the defender would’ve been sent off for the foul. Second one was 100% a penalty

He looked confident enough when he lined up to take the second, and hit it hard and low. Trafford guessed correctly, dived to his right and made a very good save!

Sunderland had been awarded two penalties before last night - Patrick Roberts scored the first and missed the second, so a new taker was always likely and Isidor is the centre forward and a confident bloke. But seeing him step up the second time my (Sunderland season ticket holding) partner was convinced he’d miss again - shame she isn’t the manager!

To be fair fans of clubs fully expect players to miss, especially the big ones late in games. I can't remember the last time i saw such a penno hit the back of the net as i look away just before it is struck.

I went to this one. Horrible horrible watch. Neither team played well at all but Brum had the better players and, in this case, came out on top. Exeter City couldn't even muster a shot....

That’s the thing with football. The result is more important than the entertainment.

Yes, I am a football fan, but I’ve never really understood the logic that you can spend 89 minutes watching a goalless awful dreary boring game, wondering why the hell you wasted your money, but then your team scores a last minute winner and you go home grinning from ear to ear. I suppose it’s tribal. Your team is more important than the game.

it was - we were terrible. took 20 minutes to get going and we were 2-0 by that point. We never learn.

a couple of hundred to most matches. More for the local games. Always at least one full supporters club coach - we have a fairly standard group of away followers.

£1000? That's very impressive. Is that just based on matchday sales of tickets or is there a subscription option? The similar draw at Luton Town, with crowds of over 10,000, produces a prize of around £500 to £700 on tickets at £2.00.
