I wonder what odds I can get for a new Plymouth manager before xmas? If the Plymouth board want to avoid relegation they need to make the change soon.

As a Stoke City fan I’m getting increasingly worried about Plymouth sacking Wayne Rooney. With Stoke’s record of employing a new manager on a regular basis, it can only be a matter of time before he ends up there.

Is Rooney actually doing that badly though? Yes, Plymouth are just outside the relegation zone but that's where you'd really expect them to be given last year's league. Not personally watched any of their games so can't comment on the quality/style of football, but from an armchair perspective I don't think he's doing too badly, he's doing better than I expected.
He's certainly doing a better job than he managed at Birmingham anyway!

The most interesting result in this week's European matches as far I'm concerned:

The New Saints 2 - FC Astana 0

Their first win in the first appearance of a Welsh club in the group stages of any European competition. Even though Astana aren't a big name, at European level their recent record is streets ahead of TNS's, this being their 7th appearance in a group stage over the past 10 seasons.

Probably worth mentioning just in case anyone was not aware of it but the TNS game last night was staged at Shrewsbury Town and was watched by a respectable crowd of 2,202 and there will certainly be more in attendance next month when Panathinaikos visit the New Meadow.

Not doing badly at all really and they are playing some decent stuff. What is noticeable is that the prominent critic of Rooney in the thread went quiet about him for a month or so when they picked up a few decent results. Funny that.

All is not bad though. Friends in the pub support Port Vale, Walsall & Chesterfield. All three are currently riding high in League Two. Port Vale are top, Walsall are second & Chesterfield are sixth.

Should those three all get promotion to League One, improbable but possible, and Stoke get relegated to League One, definitely probable, then we’ll have some great pub night arguments discussions.

Nine league matches into this season was long enough to evaluate matters to see if any improvement was being made, but results have proved otherwise and the team in 14th place in the league

The players clearly wanted him out. I don’t think the fundamental problem was Ten Hag but the players weren’t playing their best and I don’t think they wanted ten Hag to stay. Maybe de Ligt and the other ex-Ajax players like Antony (who will likely be purged now) wanted him to stay but the rest of the team was poor.

Not a surprise that Ten Hag has left, some of his signings (Antony) have been very poor & his style of play has not won over fans. One confusion was in the Europa League vs Fenerbahce where he played left back Mazroaoui in a number 10 position.

His management of some players was odd, Rashford had scored 3 goals in 2 matches so Ten Hag put him on the bench in the next match which doesn’t give confidence in the player.

I can’t accept that any sportsperson would not play their best. That is the nature of sport. Sport is a competition not a hobby. You play to win whether you are amateur or professional.

Being a professional sportsperson you are being paid to win. You give your best. If not then the players should be kicked out as well.

Players are always playing better under certain managers. It’s well known.
