Two teams in the top four, so this would be a test of each other. Hyde scored in the 13th minute and added a second in the 41st minute. Hyde then took a 3-0 lead in the 58th minute, but Stockton scored in the 78th minute. Just into injury time, Hyde added a fourth goal.

As Hebburn only drew 1-1 at home to Basford, and Macclesfield won 3-2 at Whitby, Hyde, Macclesfield and Hebburn have all now played 5, won 4 and drawn 1, but Hyde do have the better goal difference of the three. so are now top of the league.

We (Stockton Town) were fortunate it wasn't at least 6-1. Hyde were the better team on the day. Mind you, once we scored our 1st goal there was hope we may get lucky and equalise. My first away game of the season proper, and it's going to be a long coach ride back home.

Stockton Town FC 2 v Whitby Town 0. Stephen Thompson (ex Darlington) scored an absolute cracking goal after having an equally good shot saved. Second goal was scored by Michael Sweet. Loads of chances in the 2nd half with a goal disallowed for Stockton for offside. Just 2 points behind the top 3 teams who are on 14 points.

Macclesfield 1 ... Hyde United 1

A good and expected attendance of 3,003 for this Bank Holiday Monday fixture between the top two teams in the league. Hyde took the lead in the 15th minute, but Macclesfield equalised six minutes later. A draw was a fair result.

On a different note, newly-promoted Hebburn went down to their first defeat of the season, losing 1-2 away at Workington.

Just had a cursory look at the North West Counties Football League, Premier Division, matches played this Bank Holiday Monday.

Bury at home to Cheadle Town won 3-0 in front of an attendance of 2,744.

A decent bank holiday weekend for Darlo:

Darlington 1 v Leamington 0 - a professional showing against a side that didn't really offer much

Curzon Ashton 0 v Darlington 0 - another solid defensive showing. Both sides could have won it with a little application. a good result against ta side we struggle against and with at least 5 first teamers out injured.

Big congratulations to Larne and TNS on qualifying for the Conference League group stage.. Thr New Saints are a very unpopular club in the Welsh Premier, due to the money they have and possibly being English!!! But tonight they seem to be loved.

Larne are a proper NI club with a small but wonderful band of fans.

In the National League today AFC Fylde v Southend United has been postponed due to the cancellation of Southend's train from Euston! Although, having checked RTT, I can't see any Preston-bound trains that have been cancelled, only some to Manchester Piccadilly.

To be fair to Southend, it turns out it isn't a cancellation, it's a failure. They are on 1S52 1018 Euston - Glasgow which didn't even get as far as South Hampstead, and appears to still be where it sat down.

Disruption at Euston - 31/8

Avanti West Coast 1S52 1018 London Euston to Glasgow Central seems to have been stuck outside of Euston for about an hour now could anyone shed some light on the situation. Avanti West Coast reporting some lines blocked between Euston and Watford Junction.

F A CUP.....1st qualifying round.

FC UNITED OF MANCHESTER 3 ... HYDE UNITED 3

Not unexpectedly, there was an attendance of 1,229 for this cup match between two teams from Greater Manchester. Hyde scored in the 22nd minute and that was the only goal in the first half. Hyde added a second a minute into the second half and a third in the 58th minute. Cup matches being what they are, nothing could be taken for granted and FC United pulled a goal back in the 79th minute. A stirring comeback saw FC United score two more goals in the 2nd and 5th minute of extra time to earn a deserved draw.

Defeat in their ultimate universe world cup final for vibes FC. Unsavoury scenes once again as the team with more supporters clubs than fans lose the plot after the final whistle and berate the referee.

A third clean sheet in a row for Darlo and a first goal for summer singing Jack Maskell.

( 14 miles down the road and they bring 170 odd away fans. We took more than that to Oxford. )

That isn't the first time Southend fans at the ground have been let down, a few years ago a game at Gigg was abandoned after less than 10 mins due to torrential rain!
Does make me wonder why a semi-pro or possibly fully pro didn't go up the night before and stay over when a trip of c. 250 miles is involved?

Fans and players of Bury made it through The Huddersfield Block (and M62, M1) to beat Garforth 2 - 0 and progress in the cup. Nice ground too, well worth a visit if you're up there.

After the heady optimism of scoring twice in a match last week, back to reality. Utterly toothless in attack. A perfect away performance by Aldershot - score very early, sit back, time waste at every opportunity and hey presto, three points. If it was your team, you'd be pleased, but on the other side its hugely frustrating and the ref did nothing to stop it

Another perfect away performance, except this time it was us. 3rd minute goal, soak up what little attacking threat they had, run the clock down and thanks very much

Birmingham remain undefeated in 4 league games this season despite the squad not clicking yet. The way we are dominating games is something I've not seen in my nearly 30 years watching them, even going into injury time yesterday there was a sense of inevitability that we'd score the winner.
