My point is that for teams coming into the championship from below, there ought to be some sort of progressive standards that gradually improve their facilities and mean that a subsequent promotion to the premier league isn't a massive shock.
Understand that, and somewhat surprisingly, only a 5,000 capacity ground (2,000 seats) is required to be allowed to play in the Premier League, just the same as in the Championship and EFL Leagues One and Two. Main problem at Kenilworth Road seems to be as regards it not meeting Premier League broadcasting and media requirements, and the floodlighting.

Entirely this. It's about having enough camera and commentary positions (as many as 50 of the latter), media facilities such as multiple interview suites and a large enough press conference room, and the floodlighting has be be of a very high standard to cater for the requirements of HD/UHD TV broadcasting.

Still smarts does it?:)
Time is a great healer, but a slow one!

The frustrating part is that I think our 2022 team that fell at the final fence against your lot was better than the 2017 team that went up, though not quite as entertaining to watch. Still think we'd have had a new one ripped every week if we'd gone up, though I'd have liked to see how Corberan would have handled it... I don't think he'll have the chance to go up with Baggies this coming season, with their ownership situation.

It's only been 12 months. Just after we won the play-off final I saw a tweet from a Manchester City supporter who wanted to be playing us at the end of the season so that they could gain revenge for us relegating them in 1983!

I wonder if the insane new EFL / Sky deal will cause a requirement for championship clubs to have better floodlighting - the new deal has a lot * of live championship football

* way, way too much, at stupid times, and with scant regard for fans. But such is life, it seems

Have they yet published what the times will be? And just to clarify this is referring to the deal which starts for 2024/2025 season?

The new one, although there seem to be some strange rescheduling for the start of the new season. On the first weekend there are four live games, including Southampton finishing a game in Sheffield at 21:45 Friday night, and Ipswich finishing a game in Sunderland at 19:15 Sunday evening. Good luck getting home from them by public transport.

The new deal will be still worse, with five championship games per weekend on live TV but the 3pm Saturday blackout period retained. It looks like the five times slots will be one on Friday evening, one on Saturday lunchtime, and the other three on Sunday, unless Sky don't have a Monday night premier league game to show

The quote from the Chief Exec of the EFL welcoming the new deal is:

“After completing an extensive tender and negotiation process, this is a landmark broadcast deal for EFL clubs, establishing the League as a premium partner with a world-renowned broadcaster in Sky Sports.

“The EFL is an iconic sports property and one of the biggest and best attended Leagues in European football. This increased investment and coverage from Sky Sports will showcase much more of our compelling match action to fans, while delivering record rights values as we seek to make our clubs sustainable at all levels.

“For decades, Sky Sports has been a fantastic broadcast partner for both the EFL and English football, helping our sport grow through its sustained support, so we are delighted to announce this innovative agreement that combines the strength of an established brand with a modern streaming service for the benefit of EFL clubs, fans and Sky Sports alike.

“With some 20 million attending Sky Bet EFL matches each season and significant interest in the League at home and abroad, we look forward to growing our collective fanbase further and we’d like to thank Sky Sports for its ongoing commitment to the clubs and the communities which this investment will directly support.”

It beggars belief to think that a man who has worked as an executive for a number of premier league teams, and seen at first hand the impact of ever-increasing amounts of TV money flooding the game, can say this money will help make clubs sustainable, rather than go into the hands of players and their agents.

When they talk about sustainability, they mean clubs losing smaller amounts of money each year in trying keep up with Premier League teams.

Yes exactly. It's not because the ground "looks ****" it is mostly around meeting the needs of the media whom the PL relies on so much for its income.

Steve Coppell took you to 8th in the Premier League many moons ago - what has gone wrong since then ?
A succession of bad owners with the current owner the worst of the lot and some very average managers in the last 10 years like Paul Clement, Jose Gomez and by far the worst Paul Ince.

See Luton are in the news for all the wrong reasons again.
This time the F.A. are investigating various incidents during and after their play off game with Sunderland @ Kenilworth Road.
Never rains does it?

Looks like three things:

1 - preventing a fan from getting on the pitch and pushing Amad during the game. The fan's been identified and banned already.

2 - preventing a pitch invasion at the final whistle

Both of them are slam dunk guilty as charged, but probably not terribly serious, especially the end of game pitch invasion

3 - failing to provide information and video footage as requested

That's unusual and seems a very strange thing for Luton not to have done, given the Sky cameras were there and it was pretty clear what was happening. Maybe everyone was too busy sorting stuff for the premier league

Darlo have also been in bother with the FA. Misogynistic chanting at the lino and poor behaviour at our game with Scarborough. £1500 fine and imposed action plan. I wasn't at the game so don't know what the story actually was but it doesn't read well in the FA report. Really poor show. Thought we had got beyond all that tbh.

The charges were expected and mentioned by our CEO a day or two after the game, but the failure to provide information does surprise me.

Bad news also @ Forest Green were I see the lady manager has got the push after just 12 days.
Seems that racism, sexism etc are still as rife as ever in football in the UK.

This confuses me. Surely points 1 and 2 are exactly what should happen? Or should there be a "not"/"failing to" at the start of each point?

It was just celebration but the previous year pitch invasions resulted in players being assaulted at Nottingham Forest, and away fans being pelted with coins at Huddersfield. It's understandable that the authorities will punish clubs who fail to prevent pitch invasions (although I'm really not sure how they can do that).

First game of the Women’s World Cup.
A player goes down after the slightest of contacts and ‘wins’ a free kick.
The match commentator calls it clever play.
No it isn’t, it’s called cheating……
