A great away win by Hyde which meant they have done the double over the much-fancied opposition. An attendance of 2,307 today.

Since the new manager took over from Gannon, when Hyde looked favourites for relegation, in the twelve league matches played, Hyde won six, drawn three and lost three and finished 17th in a league of 22, with 50 points.

Furthermore, there may be a shot in the dark reconsideration after the council elections on 5 May, with most residents of Cumbernauld and Kilsyth hoping to oust the Monklands Mafia wing of the Labour Party, as since when North Lanarkshire Council was created in 1996 (and based in Motherwell), it has been run by Jim McCabe (from Coatbridge) and then Jim Logue (from Airdrie) as they have done nothing for Cumbernauld or Kilsyth (which NLC refers to as the "North Area").

As an outsider looking in, the fall-out over Goodwillie (surely "Badwillie" would be a more fitting name?) seems to have brought lots of resentment to the surface. I may be mis-remembering but wasn't he employed by a club prior to the move which caused it all to blow up? I don't recall any fuss when he initially signed.

A few miles closer to their former 'home' at Shawfield on the Glasgow/Rutherglen border although I would guess after so many years perhaps the majority of their current support would be from the Cumbernauld area. Broadwood is one of the grounds in Scotland I have not visited although Shawfield, Douglas Park and New Douglas Park have all been ticked off.

I will watch the result of the local council election with interest.

Thanks for that. I gave up waiting for news and the BBC News Channel stopped at 1800 on news on the matter and I have only just returned home.

Reckon so. Certainly will be the first to go out of the English Football League after playing in the Premier League, if, of course, they do so.

It is definitely very sad to see. I had in my mind that Notts County were another one, but they just missed out on the Premier League having been in Division 1 the year before the PL started and were relegated after a year in the top division.
Looking back at those times now it’s amazing how teams like Forest, QPR and Sheffield Wednesday have struggled so much to get promotion.

I’d like to see Forest go up this year because my mothers side of the family are all Forest fans and I’ve always had a soft spot for the team.
Hopefully they’re hitting the mark at the right time this year though…

Went to the Arsenal - Man U game yesterday. Great result for us (Arsenal)! Although did think we got a little lucky to win that. Odegaard is I think our best player, utterly superb, never ever loses the ball. Nuno Tavares though, I've never seen a footballer look as uncordinated as him. Really don't rate him at all.

Also, always been a dream of mine to watch Ronaldo play live, which I finally got to.

I'd hate to see them go down though, as the loss of six guaranteed points each season would be a big miss for us.

You were the better side, really. United are very lacklustre and in dire need of a shape-up this summer.

Frank Lampard jnr is in the same mould as Bobby Moore and Billy Bonds (despite his reputation was a really skilful player) they expected too much of the players and were not very good managers.

Lampard was part of the trio of Joe Cole, who was the dribbler, Michael Carrick, playmaker and Lampard who always played the correct ball, never giving it away.

As for managers Harry Redknapp was a mediocre player and poor coach and bought players to do a specific job and when they didn't he bought another. That's why when he got the sack from his various teams he managed his successor inherited large squads.

Lampard should have learnt from that great football philosopher and thinker Sam Allardyce that at corners and free kicks all teams are equal. It served him well.

I remember thinking Tavares looked really good earlier in the season, but he's been hooked at half time on more than one occasion recently, and I agree he was very poor the other day.

As a Newcastle fan, I'm enjoying the football at the minute! 1 win in 20 games earlier in the season, now 10 in 14 and top half of the table

Milton Keynes Dons are effectively a new club and have never been out of the Football League. Neither had Wimbledon, post-PL years.

Stoke City were the first to be booted out of the League when membership was decided by election, no?

Not sure on the quiz, but I'll guess at Corinthian Casuals as it's likely to be someone equally obscure...

On the Wimbledon/Franchise thing it doesn't matter how you view it. If you see MK as the same club they were in South London, they never left the league. If you view AFC Wimbledon as the continuation club, they also weren't relegated or voted out of the league in the traditional way.

Oldham are the first former Premier League club to be relegated out of the football league. The Wimbledon situation shouldn't even enter the discussion.

Believe that's essentially correct, at the end of season 1889-90, albeit the club was known as Stoke FC at the time.

Was this not Accrington Stanley in the 60's ?

On the Wimbledon/Franchise thing it doesn't matter how you view it. If you see MK as the same club they were in South London, they never left the league. If you view AFC Wimbledon as the continuation club, they also weren't relegated or voted out of the league in the traditional way.

AFC Wimbledon are the considered by we supporters as the continuation of the old Wimbledon. As you say, the situation should not enter the discussion.
Sadly, relegation for AFC now after 26 consecutive league matches without a win. As another bit of football trivia, our last win was on December 7 against Accrington Stanley and our last match in league 1 on Saturday is at home to.....Accrington Stanley.

No! Stacks before then. I am old enough to remember Gateshead being kicked out after applying for reelection even though they weren't bottom of the league.

Off the top of my head Thames, Glossop North End, Gainsborough Trinity, Merthyr, South Shields, the original Wigan, Burton (Town?) Swifts, possibly New Brighton were all previous members of the league (I had a book I got from a jumble sale when I was a kid which had a page or two on each. I used the names for teams I had in a sort of home made Subbuteo).

It was Stoke who were replaced by Sunderland in 1890. But they were back in 1891 when the league was expanded from 12 to 14 clubs. Stoke resigned in 1908 but were elected back in place of Glossop in 1915 - but had to wait till 1919 to resume their FL fixtures in D2 due to the Great War.

Exeter City have been promoted finally after a comeback against Barrow and streak of playoff heartbreaks. Coupled with Forest Green Rovers losing to Swindon, Exeter have now got a good chance of winning the title.

I'm very disappointed that I couldn't get tickets tonight.
