Simply to give more teams a chance of European football.

And give UEFA more revenue.

And with it also being on a Thursday night, they have aligned the Europa League’s Anthem and Branding for the 2021/2024 Competition Cycle and have created a similar trophy too.

It means the Europa League’s superb anthem; made by London based MassiveMusic in 2018 remains too!

Kelty Hearts, after beating Brechin City in the Play-Off Final, now say goodbye to the Lowland League and look forward to the dizzy heights of Scottish League Two. Mind you, that prospect did not faze Cove Rangers when they too were promoted to that league.

Brechin City now relegated from Scottish League Two to the Highland League where the terrifying prospect now faces them of matches against Fort William...
Brechin had a 19-year old Irish lad on loan from Rangers sent off for foul language and homophobic slurs towards the end of the first half. What a useful acquisition he was.

As a man u fan the worst things happened. Chelsea and Liverpool got top 4 plus city look set to win the UCL unless Chelsea toughen up. Except for the b tech ucl final(europa league) not a lot to look forward to
Always found it strange Manchester United fans don't think the worst thing is the absolute usurpation of their team by the nextdoor neighbours.

The Glazers? Cause they certainly have usurped, systematically destroyed and ruined our club, expecting us to be happy with aiming for top 4 and rubbish trophies.

If you mean Man City that too is too true. Europa League vs Champions league final. Levels!

Interesting to note that the only three of the twelve clubs who have shown no apologies for their involvement in the "Super League" debacle, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus now look to face sanctions by UEFA for their stance. Since UEFA have already spoken of their strictures on the other nine clubs who withdrew from the debacle, it will be quite interesting to see if something a tad more that the proverbial "slap on the wrist" will be forthcoming.
As an update to the above, UEFA have today opened disciplinary proceedings against Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus citing "For a potential violation of UEFA's legal framework".

Meanwhile they are proceeding with The Europa League or whatever it is for purely altruistic reasons !!

Those were some of the best penalties I've seen, combined with the worst performance from both goalkeepers in a penalty shootout. Both Dea Gea and Rulli really should have saved at least two, especially Luke Shaw's penalty. Rulli made up for it though by taking an insane penalty, and De Gea didn't by taking an absolutely awful penalty at the end.

OMG I could hardly watch... I'll give it to Villarreal even as a United fan...they worked so hard to get to where they did, and Unai has an enviable reputation in Europa League finals to boot!

I don't know why Utd didn't put Dean Henderson on to be honest with you.

De Gea hasn't saved a pen in 5 years. Ole really should have put Henderson on and got his subsititions wrong in general.

When Francis Coquelin sticks it in the top corner you know the world has gone mad. Better team won on the night.

Will that result make any difference to any Premier League teams who might have qualified for a European competition if United had won, as they have already qualified for the Champions League? There is a new extra competition in Europe next season in addition to the other ones. I am beginning to lose track of who has qualified for what.

It doesn't make a difference for the Premier League UEFA spots but Villareal have qualified for the Champions League instead of the Europa Conference League as a result of their victory.

The difference it will make will be to the makeup of the ECL, as Villarreal have qualified for the CL then other teams (from lower leagues) will be shuffled up to make up for the ‘missing’ team. Similarly as the CL winner’s spot won’t be used then teams are shuffled up.
https://kassiesa.net/uefa/qual2021.html has an explanation. (The whole site is very good if you like your data)

Not quite how I read it. The difference will simply be the way in which preliminary/qualifying rounds are made up with an adjustment to the number of byes. As I understand it if a team qualifies for the CL by winning either the CL or EL without having also qualified for the CL by virtue of their league position but in a qualifying position for the EL or ECL then it simply makes an additional CL qualifier for its country without any additional team from that country gaining a UEFA entry. In this case it will mean no Spanish entry in the initial rounds of the ECL but with 5 Spanish teams in the CL (and 2 in the EL).

Tottenham have made contact with former manager Mauricio Pochettino about a return to the club.

The Argentine, 49, was sacked by Spurs in November 2019 after five years in charge and took over at Paris St-Germain in January.

PSG failed to win the Ligue 1 title for only the second time in nine seasons and lost to Manchester City in the Champions League semi-finals.

Tottenham sacked Jose Mourinho, Pochettino's replacement, last month.

It rarely goes well second time around.

Still, we now can settle down in the sure knowledge that an English club will be this years' winners of the Champions League final....

And let's hope for a rather more entertaining match than happened in Gdansk. It's come to something when the most enjoyable part of a Euro final is seeing a shootout go all the way to the keepers...

Fair play to Chelsea, they deserved the win.
That was a good game for a Champions League final. City just ran out of time and ideas in the end.

Just got back from Cinema - shell-shocked by the result.

City still not a "big club" ?

city have still won the European Cup/Champions League as many times as Accrington Stanley.

Guardiola still hasn't won it without Lionel Messi in the side.

Yep. Have a look at their late 1960s/early 70s history if anyone’s in any doubt.
