Essentially a shot on target is a strike which would have entered (unless it's saved, blocked or hits the bar/post) or does enter the goal.
However if it hits the post or crossbar and does go in, it is a shot on target because it is has resulted in a goal.
To be fair, I do enjoy watching the knockout stage matches more than those in the group stage.
There would be very little money in it compared to the present format.
I agree, but it is exactly the same with the World Cup and the European Championship.
Sadly I understand Roma aren't interested in selling him to us. Sergio Ramos is a piece of work. A brilliant defender but a thoroughly unlikable one. Was delighted Ronaldo did naff all, again a brilliant player but thoroughly unlikable in many ways. I am not totally one sided on this, Suarez who played for us divides opinion. If he plays for your team you love him, as such I'll cut Reals players some slack.

Ramos is the master of the dark arts, you might not like him but he is a reminder that football isn't about pretty stuff and skill its about winning at the end of the day.
As a half-scouser (and son of a life-long Red) i obviously would have preferred Liverpool to have won but i don't think they would have even without the injury and kamikaze goalkeeping. Madrid have a few more gears they could go through if needed.

I agree and disagree. I think Ramos should have been booked for his challenge on Salah. I also wouldn't complain if he played for us. Such is football. Ha ha. I think if Salah had stayed on the pitch we could have beat Real. We have battered them with worse players on the pitch.
A shame if true, Alisson is a very good goalkeeper. We haven't had one of those since Reina in his first few seasons.
Me too mate, Robertson's tackle on him to stop him scoring was excellent.
Apparently Liverpool are interested in Monaco holding midfielder Fabinho. He's a very good player, I'd be delighted if we managed to sign him.

Still think it's rubbish though. I'd be quite happy if the top 6 were to sod off and form a European superleague, leaving domestic competition for real clubs that are more than tourist attractions.

If that were to happen they would also take all the TV money with them and leave, what would be in effect, a UEFA cup.
Exactly, it's the knockout stages when the competition really begins, the group stages are generally boring and predictable.

I wonder if many football supporters would really enjoy watching football matches that were governed by the alternative "football supporters laws of the game"? Would there then be less argumentative decisions taken by the officials using the new-style rule book?

They are from Liechtenstein but play in the Swiss Super League.
I only find the group stage interesting if there's two or three decent teams in the same group, personally.
Agreed. Unless it's a group of death you are just hoping one of the wealthier teams gets knocked having a bad run. In knock outs anything can happen such as my team reaching the final.

Surely you would not say this if Liverpool were one of those wealthy clubs in a "Group of Death" scenario.

I don't really follow the European Cup (whatever it's called these days) as
1. It's not on my TV so out of sight out of mind;
2. It isn't the Champions, do I really want ot watch teams play each other that came fourth in their leagues?
3. the pub team that I follow won't get anywhere near Europe in my lifetime, not even if I gave them tickets for Eurostar.
Might be of more interest if the whole thing was thinned down substantially, and meant Champions - or even each country's champions and cup winners. And was knock-out from the start. But I still wouldn't pay BT to watch it - and not even if my pub team were in it.

But there never is, the way the groups are seeded will never create drama because the club coefficients barely change every year, it takes 2 or 3 years of sustained success in Europe to increase your coefficient and break the composition of the seedings, through my own unreliable research, I'm pretty certain that at least 20 of the 32 that made the group stage this year were in it for at least the previous 2 seasons. I can almost guarantee that the 8 top seeds from this season's group draw will be the same top seeds in the coming season's draw.
When death threats are made to a goalkeeper for 2 howlers, when games get moved for tv with a month's notice after tickets have been on sale for 10 days, when over 100,000 signatures on a petition to ask for safe standing are treat as a 'minority', players routinely cheat, commentators call defensive tactics an 'embarrassment' because their 'team of the moment' don't get to thrash their latest opponents, that's when football is dead, and funnily enough, its all happened.

I've not watched a full game live or on TV for years, I find it boring to be honest, and I used to have season tickets and wasn't far short of doing the "92" before Bradford fire and then all the clubs started getting new grounds
I find (field) hockey to be a much faster and more exciting game - pity what little televised is tucked away on BT which is too expensive for the limited number of international tournaments they cover.
