Guess who's idea it was? Actually, no, don't guess - no surprises here.

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...r-sunderland-david-moyes-agreed-a7747921.html

Terry's idea. And he had to badger his boss to give him a run out over some youngsters.

Just hilariously embarrassing. And sad. Bye John.

And how do you know that?

What is hilariously embarrassing is your bitterness towards Chelsea and JT.

Clearly the management asked JT what he wanted, if they hadn't you would no doubt be calling them callous and uncaring.

So if the same gesture had been done by another club and for another player it would have been ok?

no it wouldn't - but it doesn't change the truth about Chelsea or Terry. No amount of media sycophancy will change that. Personally I would have moved him on about 2 years ago when it became apparent he was over the hill

EDIT - Actually I would have moved him on about 10 years ago after one too many indiscretions but for pure footballing reasons he should have left Chelsea a couple of years ago.

It has a quote from Terry in the article saying just that.

John Terry in The Independent said:
“I had a discussion with the manager – I think he wanted to get the boys that didn’t play on Monday night against Watford and give them a run out. So I kind of negotiated with him to play 26 minutes and come off."

Everyone in football except John Terry and a few diehards think the stunt was bizarre and trashy. It was however a fitting tribute for that reason. John's idea.

If it wasn't about John Terry nobody have batted an eyelid. He's still a decent player now and there will be no shortage of interest should he wish to carry on playing.

Perhaps it would be wise to think about why it was so high profile "because it was John Terry", and perhaps it would be wise to think about why pundits and fellow professionals decried the stunt for what it was.

And why Sunderland were more than happy to partake in it all?

Who knows, if JT carries on playing he might turn up at your club next season?:o

My club wouldn't house John Terry.

Sunderland did it because they are unprofessional, with a weak manager. There is absolutely no way my club would have agreed to the stunt.

The resounding reaction to the stunt was that it was at best bizarre and at worse a reflection of absolutely pathetic vanity on the part of Chelsea and Terry.

Wouldn't have happened at Man United, or Arsenal, or Liverpool, or in fact any other Premier League club.

we are talking about John "FKW" Terry mind. A man who pretended to have played in a victorious European Cup final side. ;)

Well I don't know who your club is but I don't know how you can categorically say that they wouldn't sign JT should the opportunity arise?

Sunderland and David Moyes get tarnished as well now do they?

Reaction has been mixed, many people fail to see what the problem is, Oliver Kay of The Times for example.

York City won the FA Trophy today:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/39994737

I was fortunate to get a free ticket, thanks to another forum member. I understand several forum members were at the game, so hopefully you all enjoyed it.

Thanks to VTEC doing a set swap on my outward train, I actually ended up sat opposite a friend who had booked completely separately to me!

Hopefully those of you who I left at the Fares Workshop had a good day too; it was a bit strange going from running a fares workshop to entering a football stadium within a short space of time!

I am looking forward to playing York next season. Always a good game and a decent away trip! it will be a really competitive league in Conference North next season.

It was pleasing to see Arsenal's petulant supporters (I am sure they're not all like that, but many of them do appear to be) miss out on a Champions League spot. They certainly have no automatic right to it, and others I spoke to today agree. The attitude of some of their more vocal supporters is absolutely appalling. And just to stick the boot in a bit more, I will add that I think Harry Kane certainly deserves the Golden Boot!

Arsenal fans (and most premier league fans) do not know they are born. They are clueless about what being a football fan is actually about. Arsenal have had 20 years of success under Wenger and while it might be time of him to go they don't deserve such a good and prudent manager who has transformed their club and English football.

Being a real football fan is about trudging through 30 years of abject failure for those one or two golden moments that make it all worth while. That is something most premier league fans will never understand.

PS did you know Harry Kane has scored more goals than Middlesbrough this season?

I can't really see why some people get their knickers in a twist over this tbh. It's only a game.

I don't find John Terry particularly pleasant for his antics, hate this stunt for its tackiness, and wouldn't want him anywhere near my club, but if both Chelsea and Sunderland are happy about it, then what's the big deal?

Bringing the game into disrepute? There are far bigger issues the game needs to worry about than a bit of tackiness I think.

Exactly, perhaps there should be more concern about Watford and their pathetic performance against Man City? The lack of marking for the opening goal really was Sunday league standard.

Problem is Wenger is living in the past. He was a revolutionary manager who transformed how English football is played - the Invincibles side is probably the best English side since the classic Liverpool teams of the early and late 1980s.

But his teams continue to suffer from being too light, with too many luxury or utility players. They never replaced Patrick Vieira and allow themselves to be emotionally and physically bullied too often. He just hasn't moved with the times.

Err hang on................20 years of success? And by what standard are you judging that 'success'? Only I think many gooners look at what Chelsea have achieved and wonder why they are not capable of similar success.

As for Arsen Wenger his arrogance is astonishing, he has become bigger than the club itself. He claims that his love for the club cannot be questioned, I'd say it's his love for himself that cannot be questioned. He then has the temerity to claim that all the speculation is effecting the team, well only he can put an end to that speculation.

For a top four club (and they haven't even managed that this season) his record over the last decade has been lamentable, Jose Mourinho's specialist in failure jibe being particularly apt.

physically bullied too often.

This idea has become a self-fulfilling prophecy. Arsenal are "weak" and so referees let teams get away with the sort of *****housing that wouldn't be tolerated against Chelsea or Manchester United. But when Arsenal stand up for themselves and fight back they get red cards for it- look at some of the nonsense Xhaka has been penalised for this season.

You can't accuse Xhaka or Gabriel of being physically bullied. But they get the red cards instead.

I think a lot of the Wenger Out lot are idiots.

Chelsea have achieved a lot in the last ten years. But how much have they spent to do so? In the first ten years of Abramovich they'd spent a billion quid just on players. Arsenal didn't have that because of the cost of Ashburton Grove.

That said, I think it's time for a new man in charge, I think things have gone stale. Last year was the turning point for me; make no mistake, Arsenal chucked that title away.

Gutted about the playoff final, but it was the story of our season. Lots of pretty possession, no end product, done over by a late late goal in dubious circumstances. The number of points we've chucked away this season has been unreal, lots of wins turned into draws.

Their goal was a bloody mile offside. And as for the pitch invasion, it just sums up Millwall. There needs to be a proper sanction put against them. And I'd question where all Wembley's stewards had gone, and why the perimeter fencing didn't work.

Ah well. I'd have taken midtable at the start of the season, when Phil Parkinson left us with no coaches and no players on the books. So to get so close to promotion is a great achievement. Fingers crossed we can push on next year. If we'd closed out half the games we drew after leading, we'd have gone up automatically.

And they would undoubtedly say the same about you!

Money doesn't guarantee success as Chelsea proved last season, you need a decent manager at the helm. Look at yesterday, Koscielny is quite rightly sent off for a ridiculously reckless challenge that could have seriously injured the victim and later in the game Gabriel makes a bad challenge injuring himself in the process and both look set to miss the FA Cup final as a result. You don't see Chelsea players going in like that, not one red card under Antonio Conte and that's because of the discipline he's installed in the players. I have to admit that I was highly dubious about bringing David Luiz back but he has been a revelation under Conte's management.

If it was a vital game the result of which could effect another club then I could perhaps understand the objections but it was just an end of season dead rubber.

Dead rubber or no....
this is what the FA guidelines on fixing say...

"Fixing is arranging in advance the result or conduct of a match or competition, or any event within a match or competition.

"Fixing is prohibited and is treated very seriously."

They know why they haven't achieved similar - budgets. Top flight football is now all about owners and how big their pockets are. It's dull. I'm spending this summer wondering how much we can afford in transfer fees, whether we will get a good sponsorship deal and wondering how much more in gate receipts our new stand brings in.

They should try supporting a real football team. My team was relegated 5 divisions and made to use a new name. Before that we bumbled about the bottom of the league getting promoted 3 times in my life often staying up on the last day and twice getting relegated out of the league.

BTW I wasn't sitting in a super stadium while supping a nice Sancerre and eating my quinoa super food rainbow grain salad watching all that. I was stood on an open terrace in the pouring rain at Scarborugh getting ****** wet through watching my team lose 4-1 and have 3 players sent off, i was sat on a coach for what seemed like 45 hours to Torquay and back to see us get beat, I was stood ankle deep in pee at Carlisle, in the snow, watching us get beat. I have seen us not win in 16/17/18 games and still turned up, i have put money i haven't got into buckets and shares to keep my club afloat and I have seen SO many underskilled players ( of a type Arsenal fans have never seen and wont believe exist) defy the Trade Descriptions Act masquerading as professional footballers!

THAT is what being a real football fan is about. They should try that instead of sitting in their luxury stadium watching world class players, winning the cup now and again and getting into Europe every season. Christ I would give my left arm for that kind of "failure"! Don't know they are born.

PS if they are STILL complaining I will let them have Steve Staunton or Colin Todd as manager. THEN they might have something to complain about! ;)

Given the rise of inplay betting markets, it'd be very interesting to see what the betting patterns were on Terry being substituted on such a specific minute.

Sutton United's goalkeeper was sacked, and punished by the FA, for less.

Todd was alright with us. Sacking him got us relegated to League Two, which was such a ballache of a league to get back up out of (and we were bloody close to leaving it through the trapdoor).

jbc said:

We'll leave Leicester out of this, as that was so outlandish (like us getting to the League Cup final) that it'll never be repeated.

Money doesn't guarantee success. But not having money guarantees that you won't be successful. It isn't just the headline transfer fees either. Arsenal lost all their best players because the financial situation meant they couldn't match the wages of Chelsea. Look at old traitorous Cashley, crashing his car because Chelsea had a bottomless pit of cash to pay him and Arsenal didn't.

van Persie, Adebayor, Nasri, Fabregas, Toure and Clichy all left because Arsenal couldn't pay what Man City and Chelsea could. You don't build success unless you can afford to keep your top players. Arsenal couldn't. And you certainly don't win titles when all those players go to your direct competitors.

As for this season, 75 points is a record Premiership high for a team finishing fifth, and is actually four more points than Arsenal got last year as runner up. The top of the league is just so competitive now, it's getting like Italy was in the mid-90s.

All this talk of what it's like in the Premier League is almost making me want to lose next week... If we go up, all we'll hear is how we need to spend millions on so-called "premier league quality" players. Truth is that whether we do or don't, we'll most likely end up getting relegated anyway- so I'd rather we do the exact same recruitment whether we beat Reading or not.

Looking a bit fishy now. Hmm.

Wayne Shaw was clobbered by the FA for less.

I don't think it was deliberately dodgy, with the winners simply guessing that he'd see the number 26 as significant. But still, in the context of Joey Barton it really doesn't look good.

Unless rules have changed recently players have to have played in five games to get a winners medal:roll:!

Absolutely nothing wrong with supporting a lower league team but obviously expectations are a lot lower, Arsenal fans are paying top dollar and so obviously there are high expectations.
