Steve Bruce anyone ???

Not sure how that would go with the fellow Villa fans, considering he once managed the dirty bluenoses.

Remember, clueless Alex McLeish resigned as manager at the Blues (the same season they won the League Cup against Arsenal and got relegated to the second tier), then immediately became manager of the Villa.

Nice to get another win at the weekend even if it was only by 1 and was a lucky last few minutes - a win is a win.

Also LOL at Villa. Hope they go down again at the end of the season.

I have counted ten former football league clubs (the ones who have played in any of the top 4 divisions at some point in their history) in the list above.

North

Lincoln City
Macclesfield Town
Tranmere Rovers
Wrexham
York City
Stockport County

South

Aldershot Town
Dagenham & Redbridge
Torquay United
Kidderminster Harriers

Barrow, Chester, Workington, Gateshead, Southport, Halifax & Maidstone too I would say.

Quite happy with Burgess Hill away, might even be able to nab a new station if I go by train!

Are both Chester and FC Halifax Town recently new teams?

I remember Chester City went into liquidation circa 2010 halfway through the season, and FC Halifax Town replaced Halifax when they went into liquidation too.

In both cases they're "successor clubs", much like how AFC Wimbledon inherited the FA Cup win of the original Wimbledon rather than that achievement being on Franchise FC's roll of honour.

In other news, roars of laughter can be heard around the pennine foothills as Dean Hoyle slams the phone down after being bombarded with phone calls from the Birmingham area...

Lost 1-0 at home to Aldershot..... Getting embarrassing under Jackie now.

Meanwhile I decided to tick a ground off the 92 and visit the Valley. One time York legend Calvin Andrew got the only goal as Rochdale beat Charlton 1-0

how does Jackie McNamarra not get the sack? Is he simply too expensive topay off? York look a shambles under him.

He can't be on that high a wage if he needs to fare-dodge... ;)

Though going back a while I remember Town having to reinstate a manager after finding they couldn't afford to pay him off!

Villa fans on here, would you and your fellow fans accept Steve Bruce as manager if it was an option. There's no questioning he is one of the best championship managers, and is available

They are talking about Wagner ( sorry Terriers fans)

We're flattered, shows he's doing something right... but he doesn't seem the sort to leave a job unfinished and he's only just getting started here! Besides, Villa need a quick-fix and you only have to look at last season to see that Wagner isn't that!

It was an ex-L666s manager that got us out of the 3rd tier, to reject a manager because he managed your rivals is the ultimate example of cutting one's nose to spite one's face!

Yes I would. Although I do feel there are better options long term. Bruce is someone who will get you to of the Championship but then have limited success at a higher level. I don't think he is a builder of a club so I feel he would be more for a short term fix.
Having said that I don't expect to go up this year anyway and never did.
Will have to wait and see.

I don't think it's the fact he used to manage our rivals that is the problem. He has been away from them for a fair while now.

We're losing 4-1 to yet to win Guiseley and it's not even half time. 800 York fans there. Jackie HAS to go. He's killing the club.

WTF! I think we would beat you at the moment and we are a league below. How has he not been pushed?

I have seen this kind of thing with Darlo before - Steve Staunton, Colin Todd - and it never ends well.
