Given the fair number of the Belgium squad that he worked with at Everton, he'll be known to many of the players. That might even be one reason he's got the job.

Pedant alert...or German! Some areas of Belgium are native german speakers, which makes me wonder how many of them have played in the national side? Anyhow, always impresses me how, when cheering on their team, the fans shout for "Belgium" and not Belgie/Belgique - a happy compromise perhaps?

Lot of people believe Oldham will finish bottom of League one this season and after day 1 that where they are, I do feel that Oldham need other two weeks of pre season training given we started later then other and only had started full team about two and half weeks ago.

Winchester City did not get off to a good start this season as poor defending and diabolical refereeing made this game memorable for all the wrong reasons. City started brightly but the hosts took the lead through a deflection before doubling their lead and going 3-0 up shortly before the break. Then came a flashpoint as City's captain was brought down, sparking a spot of handbags; the perpetrator saw red but the referee (who looked completely gormless) decided that the captain had done something wrong too and sent him off, with City hitting the bar just before half time. In the second half City hit the post again as numbers 4 and 5 for Slimbridge slyly swapped shirts with 4 on a yellow and 5 not. City pulled one back on the hour with a curling effort from Brigg but a minute later the ref ignored a clear foul on a City player and Slimbridge restored their three goal lead. City pulled another one back and saw a perfectly good goal disallowed for offside after the ball came off a Slimbridge defender. Slimbridge got their fifth late on before Craig Feeney headed home with the last action of the match to add some respectability to the scoreline.

Good start from Taunton!

Speaking of good starts, Huddersfield made up for last season's closer by outclassing a decent Brentford side. New signings appear promising, a 2-1 final score the least we deserved though there's obvious room for improvement.

We're 5th in the embryonic table, if we're still there in 9 months I'll be very happy and very surprised!

A 2-2 draw for Darlo at Altrnicham - which was a fair result. Both sides cancelled each other out, chances were few, with the home side having the best in the second half as Darlo pushed on. The home penalty was the correct decision, ours at the death looked soft and seconds later the ref bottled a certain pen for Darlo!

I guess it is a good point against a side playing in the conference last season. if we can compete with all of the teams i will be really happy.

I got sunburnt - that has to be a first watching football!

After a last minute goal to secure a 4-3 win at home to Alfreton on Saturday we (Stockport) are off to Stalybridge tonight, where we haven't won since 1754 or something equally ridiculous. I expect it to be a rubbish game, full of niggle and aggro given the home side's relentless desire to plum new depths of abysmal football each season, and it'll end a draw probably.

About 13 it seen with league two teams - Stevenage, Morecambe, Crewe, Cambridge and Exeter all beating Championship teams.

My word, there were quite a number of those, such as Oldham Athletic beating Wigan Athletic 2-1.

Don't sure if class it as shock as I think Wigan don't do well in League cup but still very good victory for us (Oldham) and it first time we have reach R2 in this competition since 2008/09 season.

New bring on Chelsea, Everton or Liverpool in round 2.

A vastly changed Winchester City bounced back from the setback at Slimbridge to record their first win of the season. Salisbury started strongly and Tommy Wright opened the scoring in the seventh minute after being first to the rebound. The visitors continued to press and keeper Lewis Noice pulled off an outstanding save at 1-0 before Jamie Barron curled a free kick in off the post. City were galvanised and four minutes later a good piece of build up saw Joseph Briggs turn and fire home to give City the lead. Ten minutes later a counterattack saw the hosts go 3-1 up with Howard Neighbour finishing off. Salisbury improved in the second half and Justin Bennett finished after a free kick five minutes into the half. From then on it was end to end, with Salisbury having a penalty shout for handball turned down, but with three minutes left substitute Ross Bottomley turned a square ball from Briggs into the net to seal the three points.

I see is Preston v Oldham in R2 of EFL Cup, I would prefer Premiership side but it is winnable game for us (dare I say) and sure you may be happy with draw special if you do beat us then good choice you may get big team in R3.

Aston villa fans on here wouldn't be too happy tonight as Villa lost 3-1 to League two side Luton.
