Breaking news on sky sports news.... Sunderland have given permission for the FA to hold contract talks with Big Sam.

Not a bad choice, history of overachieving with mediocre players, avoiding elimination (relegation) and doesn't take **** from his players.
He is a good manager under pressure as proven from his relegation saves, and gets players on his side.
He will play to our strengths. England's players don't have the skill for pass-pass - pass. Sam won't do that, it will be a good defence with long ball etc aka Portugal style!

An important message for everyone:

Please go to The RailUK Fantasy League and nominate your team - even if it featured last year. All teams are being nominated again, except for the relegated ones - and even then, we're allowing Aston Villa back in again because a lot of their fans are on here and it'll be interesting to compare their progress to the rest of the teams.

And, obviously, new teams are allowed! At the end of the season, we'll set up promotion/relegation so this nomination won't be necessary. But not all teams were represented last year, which is why we're starting nominations anew. Thank you.

Ever get the feeling that it is not fault of the manager, but what the "dross" in the team squad actually produce in relation to team tactics that had been formulated by the manager on the field of play, which was so cruelly exposed in that match against Iceland?

England are in a totally false position because those players in the Premiership, thanks to TV money, are so overpaid as not to be really believable for what they serve up on the field of play.

The only problem is as I see it, is the smaller teams do not normally feature in the quarter-finals onwards of major International tournaments.

I can well imagine some fans of my local non-league side, watching the inept England performance against Iceland, chanting to the England team...

All players chosen by Mourinho had a chance to show their paces against a Wigan Athletic side who will be in the Championship this season and as expected, many of the young players featured, including both goalscorers, Will Keane and Andreas Pereira.

The new "big money" signings all played and seemed to enjoy the experience.

A chance of silverware tonight for two teams. Huddersfield Town and Liverpool will compete for the Bill Shankly Trophy at the Weak Beer Stadium (1945 kick-off).

The two head-coaches are of course best friends having worked together at Borussia Dortmund and both moved to England within weeks of each other. Huddersfield coach David Wagner has invested heavily this summer in players from the German league, and in loans of young prospects from the top flight. One of the latter is likely to face his parent club tonight, being goalkeeper Danny Ward who also appeared in Wales' victory over Slovakia at the European Championships. The game is sold out (the whole stadium is not being opened) and is being screened live on Liverpool's own TV channel.

Sam Allardyce will be named as the new England manager - with confirmation expected in the next 24 hours.

Allardyce will leave Sunderland after nine months at the Premier League club.

The 61-year-old replaces Roy Hodgson, who resigned after the surprise defeat by Iceland at this summer's Euro 2016 finals in France.

Allardyce, a former West Ham, Newcastle and Bolton boss, spoke to the Football Association last week and has been chosen ahead of Hull's Steve Bruce.

The only remaining issue still to be settled is compensation to Sunderland, with Allardyce having a year left on his contract at the Stadium of Light. The FA will have a board meeting on Thursday.

Both Sunderland and Hull had urged the FA to act quickly, with the new Premier League season less than a month away.

Allardyce was interviewed for the England job following Sven-Goran Eriksson's departure after the 2006 World Cup but Steve McClaren was appointed.

His first competitive game in charge will be a World Cup qualifier in Slovakia on 4 September.

Allardyce will become the 15th permanent England boss, the pinnacle of a managerial career that started at Blackpool in 1994 and has taken in 467 Premier League games - behind only Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger and Harry Redknapp.

He has never won a major trophy but did win promotion to the Premier League with both Bolton and West Ham, as well as winning Division Three with Notts County in 1998.

MANCHESTER UNITED have agreed a world record £105million fee with Juventus for midfielder Paul Pogba.
United and Juve have been locked in talks with Pogba’s agent Mino Raiaola all day in an effort to thrash out a deal for the 23-year-old.
And after failing with an initial offer of £90m, the Premier League club have finally agreed to match the asking price of Juve to get their man.
Respected French newspaper L’Equipe claims all that is left before the move is finalised is for Pogba to agree personal terms.

As a Wycombe fan I'm extremely happy with it, a 15% sell on clause means we get a nice £2.25m from the deal, which should clear most, if not all, the debts we have, and being controlled by the supporters it's all good news for the club
