The violence was all about the Russians, who came tooled up and organised. UEFA and the BBC desperately trying to pretend that the English fans were to blame, we can't possibly blame Putin's country now can we?
Huge questions for the French security. The Russians brought flares and explosive devices in- one of the bangs at the end was as loud as the bang at the Stade de France last year. And when the Russian fans charged, throwing flares at English fans and the mixed fans zone, the stewards all ran away. The riot police were nowhere to be seen. Echoes of Heysel, to be quite honest.
We all expected Russian fans to do this. We also all expected UEFA to blame England for it. Quite frankly, Russia should be expelled from the tournament for what they did in the stadium. English football was banned from Europe for years after Heysel, but the chances of UEFA standing up to Putin are not quite so high. They only give a stuff when it is English hooligans. Always been the case.
