I always feel a bit sorry for people who don't like sport. Any sport. I don't think there is anything else that can give such highs of pleasure and lows of despair than sport. That can be any sport not just football.
Imagine never knowing what its like to feel the ecstasy of your team snatching a last minute winner or achieving a unlikely promotion. I remember the feeling I had leaving Wembley earlier this year after Villa overcome Liverpool in surprise circumstances. I wouldn't swop that for anything

Not even for 40 points this season...? <D

To be fair, I'd take an FA Cup even if it meant relegation the following season. Anyway you might like it down here, it's not all bad!

Didn't somebody do that years ago? Win the FA Cup and got relegated the following season

Did you go to the Final ? - I can't remember. If so were your expectations raised after the Liverpool result?

Did they make a mistake sacking Sherwood ? Garde did even worse !!

I did go to the final yes. I expected to get beat but I also expected the players to put in a bit of effort, which didn't happen. I haven't had raised expectations where Villa are concerned for 5 years now. I always expect the worst!
No I don't think we made a mistake sacking Sherwood. We would still be in the same position we are now. We just don't have the players, specifically a decent goalscorer, a midfield general/destroyer, and a commanding centre back. The spine of the team, in effect, is just far too weak.

I am actually looking forward to it. The last time we were down there in 87 it was my favourite season following Villa. We had a great time. We did get promotion which probably helped but it was great getting new grounds in and generally being the big fish in the pond. I think I am correct in saying all but two clubs that season had their highest home crowd when they played us

Hyde United 0....Ashton United 4

The "Tameside derby" went exactly to form and the difference in class was frightening. You can see why Ashton are in 4th place and Hyde are now in 19th place, now only 3 points clear of the bottom four league places.

The only consolation, if worth anything, is that of the six remaining league matches still to be played, four of these are at home.

Oldham v Chesterfield on Monday has 0-0 written all over it.

You was nearly right but sadly for you best team won. :D

Oldham 1-0 Chesterfield

Massive win this for us but sadly Blackpool got late winner against Doncaster which mean Oldham stay in bottom 4.

17: Shrewsbury P38 GD-10 - 46 points
18: Chesterfield P39 GD-12 - 43 points
19: Blackpool P40 GD-13 - 42 points
20: Fleetwood P38 GD-5 - 41 points
----------------------------------------------------------
21: Oldham P38 GD-13 - 41 points
22: Doncaster P39 GD-17 - 37 points
23: Colchester P38 GD-37 - 31 points
24: Crewe P39 GD-29 - 30 points

Anyone between Chesterfield and Oldham will probably finishes in that last relegation place, Doncaster look like they heading down and Colchester and Crewe are probably already relegated to League two.

Bashley 0...Winchester City 3 (Bentley 50 pen, 77, 80)

Winchester City were frustrated for 50 minutes at basement boys Bashley before Warren Bentley stole the spotlight from returning hero Andy Forbes with a second half hat trick. City were awarded a penalty early in the second half which Bentley converted but nearly conceded a penalty themselves only for the linesman to flag for offside before Bentley doubled the lead with a superb looping volley and made it three with an emphatic left footed finish. Next up, the visit of promotion bottlers North Leigh.

And Remi Garde leaves Aston Villa by mutual consent....

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/35855813

Manager Remi Garde has left Aston Villa by mutual consent after four months at the Premier League's bottom club.

The 49-year-old Frenchman replaced Tim Sherwood on a three-and-a-half-year deal in November, but departs after six successive defeats.

His last game in charge was a 1-0 defeat at Swansea City on 19 March, which leaves Villa 12 points from safety with seven games remaining.

Villa won only two of their 20 league games during Garde's tenure.

Chief executive Tom Fox and sporting director Hendrik Almstadt left the club earlier this month.

Villa owner Randy Lerner put the club up for sale last May, but is yet to find a buyer.

Fans have been upset at the lack of investment and the decision-making at the club.

Former Lyon boss Garde was said to be considering his future at the club after being unable to make any signings during the January transfer window.

He has also been among those who have criticised the players for a perceived lack of desire.

Garde had become increasingly dispirited by performances and said he felt "humiliated" after a 6-0 defeat by Liverpool last month. It was the first time the Midlands club had let in six at home in a league game since October 1983.

His only victories came against Norwich City and Crystal Palace in the league, and League Two Wycombe Wanderers in the FA Cup.

He recently refused to comment on reports Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas is keen for him to return to the Ligue 1 club next season.

Villa's next Premier League match is against Chelsea at home on 2 April.

All the best Remi. It's hard enough doing this job with two hands. Impossible when one of them is tied behind your back.

NEEEEEXXXXXXT

Chris Powell is available, and with Brum being only half the distance from London that Huddersfield is, plus with a far more frequent train service, he'd be able to take training more than three days a week!

England back to Earth with a bump tonight...

[hyperbole] No doubt the same voices that we're calling for "Woy" to be knighted on Saturday will be calling for him to be sacked tonight! [/hyperbole]

As expected sooner or later, Gary Neville has been sacked by Valencia. So it's now back off to Salford City...:D

Shows just how shallow and possessing of no top level football managerial experience some people are.

At least my posting about the demise of Gary Neville was just a reflection on the run of poor Valencia results whilst he was in charge, which in no way compares to the results of England in competitive matches of the current England manager.

Pearson, if he is given a free hand. They should have gone for him in November when Sherwood was given the bullet.

I am torn on Pearson. He does have the required promotion experience and seems to get players playing for him. But he does come across as a bit of a loon frankly.
I think on balance I would prefer Moyes but I am led to believe it will be Pearson.
At least it's not Steve "potato head" Bruce

I agree he seems to be a "challenging" personality. I am not sure Moyes is the man to drag you out of the Championship and I am not sure you will come straight back - the club is in an awful mess on and off the field

That got me thinking and with a very tenuous link with Man Utd, a certain Bobby Charlton who had no clue about management when he was appointed at PNEFC
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
We (PNEFC) are taking 7000 to Blackburn Rovers tomorrow for the local derby and Northern are very kindly strengthening some of their services from 2 to 4 carriages, can't see it being a goal fest somehow but 3 points will keep our (very) slim playoff hopes alive

With Norwich winning against Newcastle, if that stays the same, villa will be put out their misery and relegated if they don't win their next match.

Evo Stik Premier League

Frickley Athletic 3...Hyde United 0

This latest disaster now leaves Hyde in 20th position, just two points clear of the bottom "drop-zone" four clubs.

The former FC Halifax Town and Oldham Athletic manager, Darren Kelly, has now been appointed as the new Hyde United manager, with but five games to play to stave off a third successive relegation. It reminds me of the name of that film..."A bridge too far"....

I think a non league club could beat Villa after watching that performance.
Sam

I imagine Bashley, winless all season, could beat Villa.

Winchester City 0...North Leigh 0

Winchester City's promotion bid hit a snag thanks to some diabolical refereeing. Early in the game Adam Roberts was the victim of a late, high and dangerous challenge which was deserving of at least a yellow (and probably a red) but the ref issued no card. Winchester were also denied two clear penalties for hand ball (and an arguable one), the most glaring being in the first half where a North Leigh player (who wasn't the goalkeeper) dived down to palm the ball away in a handball more blatant than Oxlade-Chamberlain vs Chelsea in 2014. And, to top it all off, next up is a trip to a Cinderford side looking to return to the top of the table.

League table:

1. Banbury United P39 85pts
---------------------------------------------
2. Cinderford Town P36 84pts
3. Taunton Town P36 80pts
4. Winchester City P37 78pts

Not sure if that right appoint for Hyde as knowing he only lost twice when he was Oldham manager he didn't look like he knew what he was doing and he only lasted nine matches at Halifax for same thing, having said that he may do good job at Hyde and keep them in Evo Stik Premier League division.

No match for Oldham today due to Barnsley been in JPT Final tomorrow, not that good day for Oldham as Blackpool and Chesterfield both won and Fleetwood and Doncaster both draw, that draw for Fleetwood does mean that if Oldham beat Swindon on Tuesday night (and Fleetwood lose to Peterborough) they move out of relegation zone for first time since November but to be fair I don't think Oldham will beat Swindon anyway.

8th win in a row for Darlo today who beat Sutton Coldfield 2-0. We are now second, 4 points off the top with 3 games in hand. Blyth Spartans who are top came from 3-0 down to beat Ilkeston 4-3 with a last minute winner. damn.
