HARSH...?

He abused a position of trust and importance - got what he deserved

He's been a bloody fool but had he done the exact same thing later this year when the girl turned 16 it would have all been perfectly legal.

By comparison Stuart Hall got 30 months for sexually abusing pre pubescent children!

Although they might have been consent if she'd been 16 at the time, he would have still been done for abusing a position of trust - still bloody guilty as hell

With Hall, I believe they took into account his medical condition which was terrible to say the least

Agree, 2 years would have been about right.

Perhaps it is fortunate that you have no jurisdiction over the setting of prison sentences.

I totally agree with what you say and thank you for noting "the position of trust".

Considering what some people get for far worse offences, 6 years seems quite harsh.

Indeed... Why some people on here are calling for a much lower sentence is beyond me!

Thank god the Sensible Squad (you and me) are here... :D

It should be noted that the Judge could have given him a good number of years more on top, but some evidence was dismissed during the case. Part of the reason he has got 6 years is that he pled not guilty. If he had admitted it at the start of the trial, he would have skipped the case altogether and got 3 years and out after 18 months... Been awhile since I last looked at the guidelines, but I think thats still the case.

!

Irrelevant. He knew how old she was, he even googled age limit, he knew what he was doing and still done it.

Shouldve got longer. And the sentence hall got was also shameful.

Shame about cryuff dying though. He was amazing and after me dad telt me about him and Ive watched youtube vids Im in awe of him. Shame I had to post in the same post as one aboput Johnson.

No, what he is is a nonce. He is an ex footballer not a teacher or a doctor or a lawyer or any of the other professions that are actually in a position of trust.

Should have got more than 6 years though.

Johan Cruyff has sadly died at the age of 68 after a long battle with cancer

One of the best footballers I ever had the privilege to watch...total football :p

The fags finally caught up with him, the lungs went after he recovered from several heart attacks :cry:

Neither did I, somewhat harsh if you ask me. He has also been stripped of his England caps which is surely a completely pointless gesture? Are the FA going to re write history?

"Somewhat harsh......"

What would you have wished upon him if you were the the father of an underage girl in her early teens?

What position of trust does a footballer have? I can understand a teacher or a doctor.

Stuart Hall's health doesn't look that bad from what I've seen of him. He was well enough to appear in front TV camera's strenuously denying the allegations that he subsequently admitted.

I've got three daughters actually.

Early Teens? I think you mean mid teens?

Why are people making excuses for Johnson?, he knew and knows what the law says and he chose to ignore everything for his own gratification, he even looked it up on the internet, which has already been clearly stated

It doesn't matter whether this country is out of step with Europe or anywhere else, it is our law that he has deliberately and knowingly broken and he deserves every single day of the sentence he's been given

Just because he's a footballer some people, including him, seem to think the law should treat him differently, well tough, he's a pervert just like any other pervert in any other walk of life

Some people are arguing that the law has treated him differently and the man in the street would have got off far more lightly.

Nobody is sticking up for him just putting it into perspective.

If he had pled guilty at the start, he could have been out in 18 months - halved with credit for an early guilty plea

To get things more on topic, whats the situation at Villa?

Are you turned on by the prospect of a 50 year old sleeping with a 14 year old for instance?

That seems to be the objective of a good number of the more elderly of those various groups of men who, in the last two years who finally were brought to justice, who have deliberately targeted vulnerable girls of that age group, many of which were said to be "in care".

Very sad to hear about Johan Cruyff. If ever a man deserved a World Cup Final winners medal it was him. The Dutch were the best team in the 1974 finals and deserved to win it.

I remember as a child in the 1970's trying to perfect the "Cruyff turn" on the local park with my mates. And trying to teach my youngest son the same trick when he was a little lad. And no doubt I'll be trying to do the same with my Grandson in a few years time.

Well exactly Paul! So why on earth should a forum member who is indeed a grown adult be suggesting that people should be allowed to do that legally in this country?

He knew of her age and that she was totally besotted with him, as many girls are these days over "celebrities". He had spent a period of months grooming her in order that he could indulge himself.

Yes he should have known better, I don't think anybody disputes that.

Is that anymore likely than a 24 year old and a 60 year old?

Given some men in their 50's and older appear appeared to be turned on by children and given their ability to groom those children I would suggest that it is.

We're still ****!

Reading some of what was said today in court I think 6 years was fully justified.

Johan Cruyff. Best player I ever saw live. Given a standing ovation as he left the Villa Park pitch in a UEFA cup game in 1977. In a age where the word "legend" is used far too frequently there can be no mistaking a real legend.
