Wigan Athletic have not wasted much time in appointing their former team captain, Gary Caldwell, as their new team manager. His hip injury brought a premature end to his playing career.

Ah, only just found this thread, although I haven't really explored other sections of the forum until recently.

Avid Grimsby Town fan here and I have followed us through thick and thin (thin being the objective word at the minute) since 1972.

I have seen plenty of good times though such as winning 1-0 at Everton in 1984 when Everton where the team of the moment, the FA Cup run of 1988/89 when we reached the 5th round before eventually losing to Wimbledon, when we took more inflatable fish to Plough Lane than Wimbledon had fans there. We had won at Middlesborough in the 3rd Round when we were 4th bottom of Division 4 and they were in the top half of Division One. Stopping Newcastle United setting a new record for consecutive wins from the start of the season in 1992 with a last minute 30 yarder from Jim Dobbin in the last minute at St.James' Park. Winning twice at Wembley in 1998 in the space of 3 weeks and winning 2-1 at Anfield with a last minute extra-time screamer from Everton fan Phil Jevons in 2001. I could go on but I'm sure you must be a bit bored by now.

Anyway, we've found ourselves in the cesspit of The Conference for the last 5 seasons but we've given ourselves the best chance we've had since we've been down here of getting back into the league this season. We're only 3 points behind the leaders but with only 3 games left, time is running out so I would say that it's going to be play-offs for us again this season.

Anyway, I won't bore you anymore but I will pop back in here every now and then.

Blackpool have been relegated to League One after Rotherham beat Brighton 1-0.

With Fleetwood Town doing well in League One this season there is the potential for some interesting local derbies next season.

Queen of the South 3....Rangers 0

After this Thursday Scottish Championship match, there would be far more satisfaction in the Dumfries camp, as this win takes Queen of the South above Falkirk into fourth place.

This result brought to an end the Rangers five match unbeaten run under the guidance of Stuart McCall and they are still behind Hibernian in third place, albeit with a game in hand.

In the Friday night match, two second-half goals saw Bournemouth consolidate their position with only four more league matches for them to play and adding a little extra pressure on the group below them who are vying for automatic promotion places, rather than having to face a play-off situation...and all that entails

I can see a certain forum moderator who is said to be most knowledgeable in all matters of football being quite pleased with the result of this away match for his team. Incidentally, are Bournemouth still known as "The Cherries" as a recent viewing on some of their red and black vertical striped football jerseys seems to bear not very much resemblance to the colours of the cherries that are sold in the better quality greengrocer shops that we favour with our custom....

Oldham 2-2 Sheff Utd

Poleon scored twice (second goal was good strike by him) to give us 2-0 lead at half time, Sheffield started getting into game in second half and got one back 10 mins after restarted, they second goal shouldn't happened as lineman give us goal kick but ref overrule this and give Sheffield corner which they scored from Sheffield also hit posts 15 mins from time which they fans thought they scored but draw is probably right result.

Yeovil become second team in top 4 division to be relegation as they could only draw to Notts County, also mean Yeovil have suffered back to back relegation too, something that Hyde have did this season.

Cardiff City backs fans' boycott of Leeds United game

Cardiff City have backed their supporters' decision to boycott this Saturday's match at Leeds United.

Bluebirds fans are unhappy at Leeds offering 500 away tickets for the Championship game at Elland Road.

After consulting with supporter and travel groups, Cardiff have now opted to return all 500 tickets.

"We have no option but to return the low number of unrestricted tickets on offer out of respect for our supporters," said Cardiff CEO Ken Choo.
Speaking to the club website, Choo added: "It's extremely disappointing to have reached this conclusion.

"Our preference was for Cardiff City fans to be granted the same respect and freedom of travel as provided to over 2,000 Leeds supporters for the corresponding fixture this season. We are frustrated that this could not be permitted."

Cardiff say that a request was put to Leeds to screen the match live at Cardiff City Stadium, but this was turned down.

Elland Road has a capacity of almost 38,000, although Leeds average about 24,000 for home games in the Championship this season.

Cardiff are currently 13th in the table with Leeds level on points in 14th.

Oh, Paul. Trust you to pick on the shade of red we wear. It has been darker previously, but judging by the look of the cherries on offer at the market here in Leicester, I reckon the black stripes match their colour pretty well.

Playing poorly for the last two games but still picking up maximum points, I am starting to believe that it can finally happen to us. Still, there is a lot of work yet to be done, and judging by today's results, no one is slipping up yet, although I am secretly hoping that Boro will turn Norwich over so that we do not have to go to the Valley on the last day needing a result.

Ideally if we do go up, I would like Boro to go up with us in the autos, and Brentford through the play-offs, but the way Norwich are playing at the moment (and scoring right at the death today must be morale-boosting), that is looking increasingly unlikely.

Millwall and Cardiff moan like mad about the restrictions but the fact of the matter is when the restrictions were removed hardly any travelled anyway and those that did caused bother.

We have to collect our tickets from a service station when we go to Cardiff so it's the same for us.

The fans of Leeds, Cardiff and Millwall are to blame for the restrictions but whereas we still travel in numbers they just cry about it.

It was bizarre, there was around 10 people in the away end who I think were club officials but when Cardiff scored it was totally silent. It was a very poor game to be honest so there wouldn't have been much for the crowd to get excited by anyway.

Cardiff were the better team and deserved the win but it wasn't a great advert for Championship football. The referee however was excellent, one of the best performances i've seen for a long time.

Have to say it may have just been evened up because Kompany has just gone in for a challenge that may well have been a red. I've seen loads of them given as reds, poor challenge.

Mn City are extremely lucky not to be down to 9 men, Clichy could have had 2 yellow cards early on, and Kompany should have been given a red card there.

To join in the fun, I will now ask...

Further afield the match in the Swiss Superleague between FC Basel and FC Zürich ended with a 5-1 win to the home team. Both sides down to 10 men, the match suspended for a while due to the Zürich fans throwing flares on the pitch and the SBB line shut down at Pratteln after rioting numpties pulled the Notbremse (PEA) and spilled onto the track.

Services were disrupted between Basel and Zürich and Bern with a lot of services being diverted.

Have to laugh at all the United loving papers today with words in headlines like thrash, humiliate. Um, yes they beat us, we were pretty bad but a 2 goal margin is not a humiliation. 1-6 at home is a humiliation.

United were due to win one against us sooner or later and that's what you get with a 250+ million team.

City had as many attempts at them, missed a lot of chances (story of our season), they scored 2 goals which were offside and they have the most expensive ever team and squad in PL history (I guess they did not do a cost comparison on the 2 sides on TV or in the papers).

So yes, we were awful, we have been in 2015 so a great time to play us, but it wasn't an humiliation.
