Financial madness runs riot...

Sky and BT Sport agree to pay £5.1 billion for the live TV rights of a certain league over the next three years.

Just a small increase that allows for inflation over the current deal...OF 70%...

Perhaps BBC will respond with a new extended contract for their flagship programme....Bargain Hunt

Paul Lambert had 3 1/2 years of his new contract left, so I imagine it was expensive to get rid of him, Your figure would be just over 2.85million a year or £55000 a week, which in premier league terms is not a large amount.

Sherwood always did well with Spurs' youth teams, and got misfiring players (e.g. Abedayor) playing well. I'm sure I read he had the best win ration of any Spurs manager in the last 20 years.

Wouldn't that just be the pay off of his contract? He has the right to compensation you know. Villa took the chance that he would be the man for them in the long run and it didn't work out that way. Only fair he is paid off for his contracted work.

I'm not suggesting he should not be paid his contractual rights, just that the opprobrium reserved for other professions receiving the same entitlements does not seem to be applicable to the world of football.

Not withstanding the fact that many of the Clubs lose money, don't succeed and pay their lower orders peanuts. The comparison of earning multiples between those at the top and bottom rarely features in the context of football.

Oldham lost 1-0 to Colchester today we played awful and never look like scoring equaliser goal. (we did scored in injured time but it was rule offside)

Probably good news is that we stay in play offs as other teams around us drop points and Sheff Utd were only team in top 6 in League One to win today.

Well, I'd have had your hand off if you'd offered me a point before today's game. Was shopping at Meadowhall today, and went in (and away from the radio) with us a goal down. Checked the scores while I had a coffee at 5pm and was pleasantly surprised to see we hadn't been hammered! Sounds like we were a bit lucky, but it's about time we were!

Sounds like a lack of creativity up front today in the second half, but don't knock yourself. To go away with a point, and not in the "smash & grab" manner of Forest earlier in the season means you did something well. I heard that your defence was up for it in the second half but not much beyond that.

I used to love games against Huddersfield, but I think four in one season during that year when we got into the play-offs in League One did the damage for me.

With regards to Lambert's contract, most clubs have get out clauses in the manager contracts these days which means he won't be getting anywhere near the full amount that he could have potentially earned.

Paul is a good manager but it just hasn't worked at Villa for him, although he's only had the proverbial shoestring to run the club off.

Depends how you define luck. We totally outplayed Sunderland and should have had more than two. But at 1-0 up it should probably have been a penalty to them (although it was offside). That might have changed the game.

Still, after shipping 12 goals in the last three home games with the Mackems, we deserved a bit of luck.

It's not luck when a lower league team beats a higher league team. We've not been lucky anywhere in our run so far. Amusingly the hardest game we've had was in round one against Halifax!

You've been drawn at home against easily the poorest team still in the cup... With Manchester United facing a battle to get past PNE, you might well be able to go one better than the league cup run of a couple of years ago. Even as a Huddersfield fan, I'll be rooting for the Bantams in the next round. The cup heroics are also a great tribute to the 54 Bradford City supporters (+2 from Lincoln) who lost their lives in the horrific fire at Valley Parade 30 years ago.

I am not one for watching any Manchester United match normally, be it live or recorded highlights, but because my son from the Poynton area came with his family came to visit, he wanted all of us to watch the match with him.

In the first-half, which was boring in the extreme, the number of goal-scoring opportunities created by a top-four Premiership side was very low in number against a team two divisions below them which makes me wonder if van Gaal does not have enough creative midfielders to make such scoring options available, Hazard at Chelsea is a young player who fulfils such a role very well and even when Moyes was in charge, the midfield area was still a problem at Manchester United.

Man U. have fell quite a way since Ferguson left and certainly don't look anywhere near good enough to win the Premier league without massive investment in the summer.

I think it flatters them to be 3rd as whenever I have seen them they look very mid-table and very average. Opposing sides don't feel intimidated by them any more.
