GMP were claiming no knowledge even after their chief had made public comment that he was aware of comments but couldn't do anything until the club reported.
That's not quite what GMP said. They said that they asked the club about the "theats". Other than a bit of "low-level Twitter abuse" (their words) there was nothing.
Still, making baseless allegations is useful rhetoric. It certainly distracts from the truth: the only "threats" were financial, and they were made by sponsors who (for some unfathomable reason) don't want their company associated with a registered sex offender.
