I believe Guernsey have to subsidise teams to get to their fixtures on the island. With Brora being another hour the otherwise of the closest team (Ross County, Dingwall) it would be interesting to see how the finances stacked up, especially as the majority of the teams would be coming from the Central Belt or south thereof: you're at least 4 hours away by road.

The travel costs have been a major deterrent to Highland clubs joining the national league structure, but Inverness CT seem to have coped ok.

Ross County are also in the Scottish Premiership and also came from the Highland League, as did both Peterhead and Elgin City.

How long does it take the teams from the Kingdom of Fife to travel by road when they play away at Stranraer?

To further prove my recently-made point about Liverpool and Sturridge, both De Gea and Blind now find themselves added to the injury situation at Manchester United as a result of matters that occurred at the recent European Championship matches.

Reports today suggest the injury to Blind is one that looks to be of a six-month recovery period, effectively ruling him out for the rest of the 2014 season.

Very annoying - he had actually come in and found his feet well. We've not had much luck with injuries this season...

It's been noticed that my team's (Dover Athletic) game this weekend is sponsored by UKIP. This has stirred up a hornets nest on the fans forum.

Are there other occasions when UKIP or other political parties have sponsored games? And what has the reaction been?

Manchester United now say their original "tweet" saying six months was made before matters medical were fully furthered and that the time period may now not be as long as six months.

I see that Ched Evans is being allowed to train with the Sheffield United club.

Well, time has allowed much in the way of comment from many sources, with the result that Sheffield United have finally withdrawn their offer of allowing Evans to use their training facilities. It must be reiterated that the Professional Footballers Association had a hand in the matter of asking the club to let him train there in its early stages.

I really don't know what reaction Sheffield United were expecting when they welcomed back a rapist

Brentford 2...Fulham 1

Two goals in the last 10 minutes sees Brentford consolidate their place in the Championship and move to 4th place, whereas Fulham are languishing in 17th place.

Not so long ago, these sides were playing in two different leagues with a division in-between.

Hearts 2...Rangers 0

In a blood-and-guts early Saturday match, that saw Rangers with only ten men left on the pitch at full time, Hearts took advantage of the situation to open up a nine point lead at the top of the table.

Oldham draw 1-1 to Sheff Utd mean Latics have only loses twice in 15 away league matches, nice to see Forte scoring our goal as last three games his form drop a bit but he now score 12 goals for us this season.

Our next two games are quite big as we play Preston in JPT QF and if we beat them then we got Doncaster or Notts County in SF and next Saturday is big local derby match against Rochdale one I been looking forward to since fixture list come out back in June.

I see Newcastle are up to 4th after they beat QPR 1-0, who would thought it that month ago Newcastle was sit in bottom 3 and without win this season.

I see Hyde blow 2 goal lead to lose 3-2 to Chorley and I see Stockport are not doing too badly this season as they are sit 7th in Conference North after they draw 0-0 to AFC Fylde.

According to a mate, Ipswich are by far the dirtiest team we have encountered this season. Two points robbed.

This was at Colwyn Bay FC today. The best thing I've ever seen at a football match.

After Newcastle United's fifth victory in a row are "Clip" , "Valenta" and any other Geordie acolytes on this forum still calling for his removal

This is almost a rerun of a few years ago when they finished in the Top Six.:p

For me this is why forums are an internet dinosaur. I've tweeted that picture and posted here and on a few other forums. No response whatsoever yet it's had over 500 retweets and favourites on twitter.

Twitter would have a wider football audience than a Rail Forum for football topics though.

Two different things entirely.

I don't believe it is.

Both need input to be of interest. If no-one posted anything on here it would be crap. Twitter is much more vibrant and user friendly.

Two different types of 'input' however. If this forum had a 'like' facility then I'm sure it would have had some form of recognition akin to what it would receive in Twitter, alas this place is more for proper debate and discussion than the much more informal and arguably pointless-content ridden social media platforms.

It's the future.

Indeed, but established forums (like this one) are still going strong and I'd wager RailUK is busier than ever. Obviously no forum established these days will ever take off, but ones with a base as huge as here will be fine for a few years yet. They still are two different mediums however - you could never create the level of in-depth and intelligent debate on such a huge plethora of topics that you have on here on social media, though obviously things like that that you posted will be more popular over there. I've had posts all over this forum over the course of four years that I thought would spark something and instead have faded into nothing, I just get on with it...

Forums and social media serve two completely different purposes as others said.

I certainly would not be expecting in-depth and intelligent discussions on Twitter. There are also things I would use Twitter to resolve but not this forum.

Forums won't exist forever, nor will Twitter.

The same could be said with regard to any discussions about AFC Bournemouth on this forum :p

Seriously F*** Twitter and Facebook - Long live RailUK Forums

I did go to the trouble of making a posting about your posting, noting that Colwyn Bay FC actually won that match, ending a run of defeats.

Come now, young sir, none of this false modesty. We all agree that your setting up of this Football thread was one of the best things to have happened to this website, as will be borne out both by the number of postings and the number of views that it has attracted.
