San Marino got only there 3rd competitive in there history drawing 0-0 with Estonia, there first ever point in a Euro Qualifier, the last coming in WCQ games against Turkey in 1993 and Latvia in 2001...They aint won a game since 2004 and have not scored a goal in a while

Andorra and Gibraltar are now the only teams remaining never to have scored a point in Euro Qualifying,

An international equivilent of Hyde United?

Sorry Paul, couldn't resist :)

On the above, is Hyde more San Marino or Gibraltar and Andorra.

This returns me to the main crux of my argument. What have any of the Home Nations ever won in recent times, despite the "redtop" xenophobic sports "reporters" causing headlines to so occur that are so far removed from the actual reality of the situation that so exists as to be totally laughable.

You may well "want to win" but if you are saddled with a nationally accepted training and coaching system from the coaching of 8-year old players onwards that does not foster free-flowing skills that certain other nations view as the norm but a failed system from the 1930's in its ethos, with a belief in "the old ways are the best" mantra by the Football Association. Hand on heart, just viewing the 45 minute first half performance of last nights England performance against Slovenia showed a total lack of the creativity that certain other teams seem to produce at "the drop of a hat". In the last World Cup, at a final stage of this competition, there were times when the German performance (European football) against Brazil (South American football) and the ability to "unlock a defence" were a wonder to behold.

And I speak as a supporter of Hyde.....:roll:<(

It was dull, I turned it off at half time. England's problems (I cannot speak for all the home nations) are too complex to boil down into a punny one liner so beloved by the tabloids. Certainly the play style leaves a lot to be desired and I think England would do better if match officials were less determined to reduce physical contact in the game. The South American style of diving like an Olympian is instead rewarded. I really don't think you can condense South American football into Brazil's semifinal performance at the world cup either. If you look at Argentina they could barely break down Iran and seemed to rely on Messi to a large extent.

Perhaps the best teams at the WC were Costa Rica or the USA. Both showed that you don't need big name superstars to do well and you can compensate with a strong team spirit and ethic. Yet both lost perhaps because they did not have a big name which brings me back to club football - as long as the big names are poached by the biggest teams (reinforced with champions league funds) then nobody else has a chance.

Whilst I was writing my earlier posting concerning the England team, I was minded of a song by the Beatles...."Nowhere man".....with regard to the current England FA attitude to the running of an International football team......

"He's a real Nowhere Man
Sitting in his Nowhere Land
Making all his nowhere plans for nobody

Doesn't have a point of view
Knows not where he's going to
Isn't he a bit like you and me

He's as blind as he can be
Just sees what he wants to see
Nowhere Man, can you see me at all?"

Buckie Thistle 1...Fort William 2.....:D:D

Well done Fort William, who are now above Rothes and Strathspey Thistle in the Highland League.
I also notice Fort William have conceded fewer goals than any of the other bottom 6 clubs (and have the best goal difference in the bottom five).

I woke up this morning expecting pages and pages in the papers about....

...Liechtenstein's magnificent away win last night in Moldova.

Nothing. Not a mention other than the small print in the scores. 4 whole points now, 4. Had they won their home game v Montenegro (it was drawn) they would now be sitting in second place, which would qualify them for the Euros!!

Bring On England..Bring On Germany...Bring On Gibraltar!!!

What do the regulars on this thread think of David Bernstein's call for a EUFA countries' boycott of the 2018 World Cup as a way of getting FIFA to implement changes?
To be effective it would need to be all the top teams...

England
Germany
Netherlands
Spain
Italy
France

What is my personal opinion, dont really know, never thought a great deal about it...

If those 6 qualify for 2018 and boycotted, it would give FIFA a big headache thats for certain

Not a bad idea but I can't see it happening. $$$ rule the game after all

Meanwhile there's some football match going on between some men who wear kilts and men who drink tea. the tea drinkers are playing away from home and they lead the kilt wearers by one goal to nil.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
A tea drinker from Manchester has scored to make the lead 2 goals to nil to the tea drinkers.

Wayne Rooney is now a more prolific goalscorer than the heavily worshipped CR7.
Rooney has a goal every 2.19 international games
CR7 a goal every 2.25 games
No doubt the English will still be critical of him.

The men in kilts hit back to try to win the game, but those ferocious tea drinkers worked together to give the tea drinker from Manchester who is actually from Liverpool the ball at which point he turned his foot sideways and placed said ball into said goal and won the game for the tea drinkers, all in all it was a simply marvelous and fair game by all the lads, must be off now pip-pip tally ho and all that.

Indeed we are England, and let's remember that as well as the original international fixture tonight showcasing why British football is the best there was the small matter of a handful of matches in the world's oldest and best football competition:

Accrington came from behind to knock Notts County out of the competition 2-1, their second loss in fifteen games; Also Concord Rangers of tier 6 will take Mansfield Town of League Two (for now) back to Canvey Island for a replay after a one all draw.

Also:
Telford 2-1 Basingstoke Town
Wimbledon 3-1 York
Rochdale 2-1 Northampton
Sheffield United 2-0 Crewe
Shrewsbury 1-0 Walsall
Southport 2-0 Dag & Red
Weston-Super-Mare 1-4 Doncaster

In spite of the 3am kick off and fact I have an exam at 8:30am this morning I decided I couldn't resist the lure of Scotland v England and it was a fantastic decision.

Brilliant performance by England, pressing high and forcing Scotland into mistakes. Clyne had a good game at right back and Rooney proved his critics wrong tonight. The last England game I saw was Estonia away and he was far from clinical that night, the whole England performance was poor that night too.

Approaching 6am here now, and out for a morning run/work out once the sun starts to emerge. Absolutely no regrets about my lack of sleep, well until I get to the office and have to do my exam... LOL.

The atmosphere for the Scotland England game sounded incredible, maybe that's what England need to play well, a good atmosphere.
The referee deserved credit as well, letting the hard tackling go that seems to get penalised in the modern game despite not being what I'd call a foul.
I thought the referee managed the game exceptionally well, letting play flow and only pulling up for a proper foul, like the Scottish rugby tackle!

I agree the atmosphere sounded great. Asked girlfriends brother who went to the match and said it was great. Although Scotland have played better in the past and England played well to.

Saw Concord Rangers in the last round. Very well organised, hard working, and the centre halves looked like England's front row. Not much in the way of quality though. They will either sneak a result against better opposition, or lose by a hatful.

I was working in Glasgow overnight and it was very quiet after the match.

Well done England a deserved victory.

You can discount the latter option I'll tell ya now.

And nice to see players just getting up and getting on with it, no rolling around in pretend agony

York City managed to throw away a match from a winning position again last night. Wilcox been left with abysmal summer signings.

Highand League...mid-week match result

Strathspey Thistle 0...Brora Rangers 7

Another comprehensive performance by Brora Rangers whose league record now reads....P17...W15 D2 L0...GF 78 GA 7...Points 47

They were formed as long ago as 1879 and since 1922, they have played at Dudgeon Park. It has a ground capacity of 4.000 (200 seated). I am sure that they could hold their own in the Scottish Second Division.

The travel costs have been a major deterrent to Highland clubs joining the national league structure, but Inverness CT seem to have coped ok.
