To be fair, there was a lot of luck involved in the record breaking unbeaten run last season, but also a lot of defensive frailties as well. If you look at the number of draws in the run, it's not quite as impressive! (14 wins and 14 draws), especially when you consider the number of goals conceded in the last couple of minutes to snatch a draw from certain victory !!!!

In other games during the run, we were completely outplayed (for example, at home to Fleetwood live on Sky), and to be brutally honest, if it wasn't for Sam Winnall, I think we wouldn't have made the play-offs ....

What do you make of the appointment of Mark Robins as your latest manager?

If he is appointed (nothing confirmed yet), then I'll be reasonably happy as the managerial situation has been sorted out quickly, and Robins is a manager who does know this level of football. However ....

He doesn't have a very good track record when it comes to staying with the club that employs him, so because of that, I have the sneaky feeling that Robins is going to use Scunthorpe United to re-launch his managerial career and use it as a stepping stone to a bigger club.

I think that for MR to rehabilitate his reputation he'll need to have a sustained period of success at his new club. He didn't seem to understand that whilst some players might need a kick up the backside, others need an arm on their shoulder.

Hope he proves me wrong if he is appointed at Glanford Park, though.

Oldham 2-1 Walsall

That win for Oldham mean we are now on 10 match unbeaten run and only loses three in 25 matches our next game will be hard as we got Chesterfield and they always beat us in JPT but hopefully we can beat them in League next Saturday.

Nice to Stockport won they FA Cup Third Round Qualifying today as they beat Ilkeston 1-0, hopefully if Stockport win they next FA Cup game then they could get Oldham in First round in which I be happy with that draw.

Sadly both Ashton teams (Curzon and Ashton united) both lost they FA Cup matches today.

I always look to see how any of the "minnows" fare and yet again, Willand Rovers from the Western Football League have won yet another F A Cup qualifying match to proceed into the 4th qualifying round.

Deveronvale did remarkably well to get a 2-2 draw away to second-placed Formartine United. Hope that you had a good view of the game.

I had a great view of the game (due to the sparsely populated ground)

Deveronvale threw it away, being 2-0 up with ten minutes to go and hitting the bar whilst holding that advantage.

Free parking, £8 Admission, £1 Pie and Coffee - and smoke where you like, it was nirvana.

One of my sons suggests a change of name to Jeckyll FC in the hope that they do not emulate the famous fall from grace of Stockport County who went from the Championship down a number of leagues very quickly in a much lower level. Not as many league clubs in the south also. In Kent only Gillingham, but 6 Kent non-league teams left in.

What a farce is the attempt at 'regionalisation ' Who else thinks Kings Lynn is further north than Nuneaton?!

There is an extremely simple explanation for why there are less north than south ties.

The Conference North - contains at least half a dozen sides from the south
Step 3 - 1 league for the North, the Evo-stik League which contains a number of West Mids based sides. The Southern League Prem/Ryman Prem are both southern based.
Step 4 - As a result of the above, there are 2 'Northern Step 4 divisions' to 4 in the South, the Evo-stik League Division One South contains a lot of West Mids based sides too.
Step 5/6 - Again there is roughly 1 Northern league to every 2.5 Southern based leagues - NWCFL, NCEL, NL - North. Midland League/United Counties League - Midlands. CoCo, Eastern Counties, Essex, Hellenic, Kent, South Mids, Sussex, Western, Wessex - South.

And the problem at Step 5/6 is there are too many Southern based leagues, 3 are county based: Essex, Kent and Sussex and the Combined Counties/Spartan South Mids are also crammed in the South East too. Non of these leagues have any great distances to travel, when you go north, 60 miles plus isn't abnormal for NWCFL/NCEL sides. And the result of all is the ground standards are generally better in the north than south too.

They are.


Considering the easiest way from Wrexham to Macclesfield is via Stockport, the Stockport v Chester and Macc v Wrexham fixtures may cause a few problems. However, it is permitted to go WRX to CTR, CTR to CRE then to Macc via Stoke one ticket, takes 2hr 11 as opposed to 1hr 50 ish via Crewe and Stockport.

The draw doesn't need to be split 50/50, as once we reach the next round all teams go into one pot- it's not like the Football League Trophy which stays regional until the final game. It makes sense really to split the preliminary and qualifying rounds- imagine the strain it would put on resources if Truro City had to travel to Workington Town, especially if a replay was needed! Of course, a Cornish side could still end up with a trip to King's Lynn or Louth, for example... which is almost as bad!
