I see a lot of sport talk on here so thought I might start a thread that has sparked my interest

We have all seen the incident at the World Cup (even none football fans have had to watch it in the news) but now he has just been made the 3rd most expensive footballer in history to date..... So was the bite more deliberate than perhaps thought, was he handing Liverpool an no ultimatum, he has caused so much controversy and Liverpool have defended him so many times, that perhaps he knew at a global event there is no way he wouldn't be caught and no way Liverpool could stand by him again

After all, taking a bite out of someone, getting 4 months off, a transfer from Liverpool to Barcelona, no doubt a chuck of money from the move and lucrative short sponsor deals...... Almost too good to turn down the opportunity perhaps?

I don't see how the bite would have been necessary. Everybody knows how good Suarez is as a player and IIRC a cut of image rights/shirt sales are included as part of the contract on the continent so the nominal fee would be higher

The deal was done before the World Cup. It was just the final details completed in the post World Cup meeting.
He had a new contract around Christmas with a specific amount agreed he could be sold to Barcelona or Real Madrid. This was done on the fact he was almost certainly going to one of those two this summer. The new contract suited Suarez as he knew he'd get his transfer he wanted, and it suited Liverpool as they get the amount they wanted.

I was confused by messi winning it, he has produced some magic moments but other players have been better without doubt - I guess those playing for Costa Rica, Algeria, USA and the other lesser footballing nations that exceeded expectation get over looked though.

He is completely mad but I think it would take a massive leap of the imagination to think that he would get his country knocked out of the world cup early and a massive ban (Which he would know he was going to get if this was a premeditated act) just so he could get a transfer to Spain! Who knows, maybe you are right and it was a deliberate ploy. I suspect the truth is that he is a complete lunatic. He is amongst the most amazing players I have seen in the flesh as a Liverpool player, but still a complete lunatic.

I'll admit I'm not sure how all this fits in with the rules but if an existing club with its existing money and level of success manages to broker a deal with a kit manufacturer then that is not the same as Billionaires from say Saudi Arabia, Russia or London just deciding to buy for example Charlton Athletic and give them billions to spend on players. The way I understand it is that is the case, you can't just buy a club and give them shed loads of money. I'm not saying either way is right or wrong.

Ha ha. I would like to see Tranmere do well. I watched my school beat Manchester Grammar in the English Schools FA cup final at Prenton Park years ago. Plus I have a couple of mates who are Tranmere fans and go home and away.

That's the way I see it.. of course I'm going to say it about my own club, but there is a big difference between a big investor coming in with loads of money and a club spending lots of money that they have gained through player sales / merchandise / sponsors etc.

I can't believe the farce at Blackpool, we've got a Manager, only 8 players, cancelled pre-season training trip to Spain. Jose Riga has handed a list of players he wants to Karl Oyston & won't cough up the readies, this along with two members of coaching staff who haven't signed their contracts, but have started work, it doesn't sound very good.

I wonder how long till Riga throws in the towel or the club goes belly up!
