Isn't it great to see Sky Sports playing second fiddle to terrestrial TV with regard to coverage of The World Cup.

Just like the old days

Do they not have the rights to any matches at all ? (even highlights)

Considering the amount of stick ITV have had about Adrian Chiles and The BBC about Phil Neville I'd say no it isn't great.

Every World Cup game is on Ofcom's list of events that must be televised terrestrially I think, alongside stuff like the FA Cup Final, Aintree and Wimbledon.

Personally I wouldn't drop Rooney, I'm not saying he played particularly well but he was out of position. He is however one of a handful of England players who IMO who have that extra bit of quality which he showed when he played the ball in to Sturridge for the equaliser. Personally I move Sterling outwide, he has the pace and skill to beat a defender and I'd play Rooney behind Sturridge. I'd also drop Wellbeck and I'd like to see Barkley start.

If Wellbeck played for say Stoke or Hull he wouldn't have had a sniff at the England side.

It has long been the case that the media can heavily influence the selection of players. If you play for a so-called unfashionable side you have to be so much better to get picked.

Saying that, I suggest Playing regularly in Champions League games far greater factor than if a journalist has a poster of your team as his screensaver.

Indeed, but I didn't say that was the ONLY factor, but one Hodgson would consider far greater than how supposedly fashionable/trendy the player's club was in the media.

Only kidding mate. Although the fashionable/trendy clubs generally seem to be the ones in the Champions league. That said I have a soft spot for St Pauli and Cracovia.

A World-Cup mathematical conundrum for "pundits" of all types.

Noting that an England 2-1 defeat in their first match seems, according to certain football "pundits", to be a stepping-stone into progression to the next stage of this competition, does it therefore follow that other sides losing their first game by the same score of 2-1 (Japan, Ecuador and Bosnia-Herzegovina) will also be seen by those same football "pundits" in the same confident light.

Perhaps football is now ruled by a different branch of Mathematics, of which I was unaware of when I obtained my First in that subject at Manchester University in 1966, which itself was a World Cup year.

Statistics are against England going through according to something I read somewhere. In the present WC format only 4 teams out of 46 have gone on to the second stages after losing in the first match - so England have a roughly 1 in 10 chance of progressing. Seeing as Uruguay must not lose either some people would say we are effectively out now.

We've only had 4 world cups in the present format, 4 out of 48 teams have qualified having lost their first game so a 1 in 12. Out of the 48 teams 22 have lost one group game and still made the last 16 so a 46% of qualifying having lost 1 game, with all but 2 of these being a defeat to the team who finished above them

I was flicking between the Krauts and the cricket, but was out playing football while Iran and Nigeria was on, from what I have read its going straight to delete on the sky box, or I will watch it later to fall asleep
