I agree about Yorkshire, would love to see everyone challenging at the top. Travel from Hillsborough is that poor that generally it does empty. I never did as a previous season ticket holder i always stayed just incase something happened. And you know what its amazing how often it did! Wickam has saved us slightly. But the whole team are playing better under Gray. DJ was just too negative.

I like your manager, much better than the previous one I cant see anyone asking for his head. You certainly were not helped by your half time substitution. The commentator literally said Mcormack will be pleased then he did that. The neutrals in my house say it was sending off. Far too late on the head. But still unfortunate.

Looking a bit grim for us when we visit Hillsborough on Tuesday in the FA Cup replay. At least Wickham can't play.

It would be more true to say that Wickham is not eligible to play as a result of his loan period from Sunderland, rather than he can't play, as his last performance most certainly proved that indeed he can play and very well..

How was Jarvis interfering? He's already crossed the ball in for Cole to shoot.
His pace has let him get past the defender so he can make the cross, so why penalise him for being fast?

To put it in context, the winger beats the defender, gets to the goal-line inside the area and cuts the ball back for the onrushing striker.
By your reasoning, as soon as the striker touches the ball, the winger is offside and interfering with play. That's surely illogical.

The rule about interfering/active players was introduced at the 1994 World Cup- so we've had the best part of 20 years to get used to it. The vast majority of current professionals will have never known anything else.

But look how many "offside" postings of dispute on football fora would then never see the light of day if that was the case....

If the internet had existed in the form it takes today back then, I imagine there'd still be just as much talk over whether a player was onside or not!

The winger would be offside when the striker shoots, as

1. He is nearer to the goal than the ball
2. He does not have two defenders between him and the goal
3. The ball has been played forwards (by the striker)

This is why the 'interfering with play' clause has been in the Laws since before I started playing (in about 1976...)

Ok, to be absolutely accurate, Sunderland have withheld consent for Wickham to play for Sheffield Wednrsday in the FA cup.

Identical outcome whatever grammatical gymnastics one employs. However, I strongly suspect it will not have a major impact on the eventual outcome of the tie.

I went to Harrogate Railway v Darlington yesterday which finished in a 2-0 win for Darlo taking us to 4th, 7 points adrfit of leaders Warrington.

The match was played on a very heavy surface with the most fantastic slope i have ever seen! My pictures here ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/darlo2009/11907128703/ ) dont really do it justice!

However Curzon Ashton, who may well win the league, sit 2nd a point behind the leaders with three games in hand. They have also go two game sin hand on us but must visit our ground on the 8th.

What has happened to the "Reynolds Arena" or whatever it was called where Darlington used to play?

Had a happy visit to Feethams a few years back to witness Argyle becoming Champions of Div 2. Not the best venue to witness this but a happy day nonetheless.

One interesting thing I note even Stoke have got a "big screen" at the Britannia, whereas on my recent visit to Anfield Liverpool have still not got one. Are Liverpool the only "big club" that lack this facility ?

He only scored 1 of the goals against Leeds, and was actually one of our poorest players on the day. For me only 8/10 when the rest were 9/10 .


I would hope we put out a partial second team, ie play a few young reserves but still the backbone of the squad. You played very well in first leg, i see no reason to suggest you will get battered.

Old Trafford doesn't have one either - although I have seen a temporary one put in during a few friendlies that I've been too. (Just to the left of the player tunnel).

I'm not sure whether Newcastle has one either...

Still in a state of shock about Saturday, one of the finest wins in the clubs history and our biggest Yorkshire derby win in 100 years which was a 6-0 win over Bradford City in 1913.

Funnily enough the 6-0 came a day before the 22nd anniversary of Leeds biggest ever win at Hillsborough, 6-1 on 12th Jan 1992, before my time! Excellent win, now watch Macc go and dump us out the cup!
