How come the match is being shown live on the Channel 11 "Pick TV" on Freeview....my son has just telephoned me with all this news.

^^ Sky Sports 1 have been free to air since 9am this morning on SKY2 or Pick TV and that why Man Utd is on that channel.

Sounds good when you put it like that, However those 11 trophy's were won in the first seven years! For the last eight years 'NOTHING'. One of the richest football clubs in the world and we go round shopping in the market seeing if we can get a player for free! What sort of nonsense is that?

If your going to lose convincingly to (and I don't mean to be disrespectful) a team that is mid table at best at home, you have got serious problems. I certainly cannot see arsenal getting a win in Turkey on Wednesday.

Why sell van Persie for £24 million and then try to buy Suarez for £40 million+. Van Persie is miles ahead of Suarez. I do not understand the logic of our boss.

We have gone from being title and cup winners to also runs and finishing at best 4th. I knew that if we finished 4th last season it would be the same old, same old again this season.

My lot got off to a good start, winning 3-1 at Aggborough, putting us 4th in the Skrill North table. Unfortunately, I was not able to make it due to delays to my service from Heald Green meaning that I missed my connection onto my onward train towards Kiddy.

I'm not entirely sure. With the quite spectacular collapse that Stockport have had over recent years, they are something of an unknown quantity - have they sunk as far as they will go, or is this league also too high for them.

In theory, it should be a fairly easy match, but I have a feeling that, if Stockport play as 'well' as they seem to have done against Boston, then it should be an easy Alty win.

I'm not one of the frustrated fans (yet), but I can see the point being made by those that are. He sold Henry and got no decent replacement, he sold Fabregas and got no decent replacement, he sold Nasri, Clichy, Van Persie, Toure and Song, and got no decent replacements. Every season more players leave than join, and those that do come in tend to go straight out on loan.

Last time was a step forward with no sale of Walcott, the emergence of Oxlade-Chamberlain and the signing of Mertesacker, Giroud and Podolski, but it was only the gelling of the team at the end of the season and Spurs dropping points that got us into the top four last season. It was only really Van Persie's goals that had us in the top four the season before.

Every season the fans look at the team and think "how the hell are we going to finish in the top four? nevermind winning the league".

I personally think Suarez is the wrong person to chase and I don't rate Rooney either (I certainly don't think he is right for Arsenal), but we need some quality players to join and, although we may have the money now, we don't have the pulling power.

Wenger is right about one thing though, you can't just throw money at the problem, the real problem, however, is that everyone knows we need to buy players.

I recall you making this posting which reflected a most notable first step back on the climb up the football pyramid. The 2013/2014 season in the new league, the Northern Premier League Division One North, will see many southwards away fixtures for Darlington 1883. I see that your first fixture will be at home to Warrington Town.

We got a good 2-0 victory at "home" yesterday which is a good start to our second stage of our return. We are in the Evo Stick North 1 this year! Another league i know nothing about but contains such luminaries as Cammel Laird, Prescot Cables and Padiham

Well folks, one match played and a viewing of the top two places in the English Premiership looks like nothing much has changed, with the usual suspects both scoring four goals each .

After last season's loss of their title to their near neighbours, the Manchester City Middle Eastern owners of the Golden Lamp summoned up the Genie who granted their two wishes in the form of a brand new experienced team manager and also £87 million to buy four new players to strengthen their already impressive squad.

One can only imagine what the final scoreline might have been had not Tim Krul in the Newcastle United goal had such an impressive match. Newcastle United supporters cannot blame Perch for this very embarrassing defensive display, as he has finally departed (to a club where his defensive shortcomings were ruthlessly exploited by the other Manchester team a few days ago).

Any truth to the rumour that the notorious Fort William defensive strategy had been tried out by Newcastle United in this match...

Looks like Ian Holloway has got himself charged by the FA after only 1 game.

For remarks made below if anyone hasn't seen them. Holloway is going for a record number of times to be charged by the FA in one year if his first comments are anything to go by. Start as he means to go on.

Crystal Palace manager Ian Holloway says some referees favour certain clubs, following his side's 1-0 defeat by Tottenham at Selhurst Park.

Referee Mark Clattenburg gave a penalty after Aaron Lennon's cross hit Dean Moxey's outstretched arm - but Holloway thought an earlier foul was missed.

Tottenham did not win a penalty in the whole of the 2012-13 season

"It's going to be a long, hard season for me with these people [referees]," said Holloway.

"I had this with Blackpool. Certain clubs get fouls and others don't."

Holloway's Blackpool were relegated on the final day of the 2010-11 season, with the Bristol-born manager joining Palace in November 2012 and leading them to promotion via the Championship play-offs in May.

His Palace team were denied a point in their first Premier League match since 2005 by Spurs' debutant Roberto Soldado's second-half penalty.

But Holloway believes Tottenham's Nacer Chadli fouled Stephen Dobbie in the build-up.

The 50-year-old said: "I've got to learn what a foul is because I thought Chadli deliberately body-checked Dobbie, smashed him down, and ran off with the ball.

"If the referee didn't see that, the assistant should have. You have to ask if he's good enough if he didn't see that. I don't see how he can miss it.

"A minute and a half later, we're arguing over whether it was deliberate handball."

Holloway was also unhappy with decision to award the penalty.

For Valencia and Spurs, Roberto Soldado has now scored 11 goals in his last nine league appearances

"I don't understand how it was a penalty, or how Moxey could have got out of the way of it," added the former Leicester, QPR and Bristol Rovers boss.

"Do I think I would have got that at Tottenham? No I don't.

"Tottenham will feel decisions like that if they play Man United.

"I just want a bit of fairness. I want a foul like anyone else would have got one. I've got a horrible taste in my mouth after that."

On his team's performance, Holloway was disappointed at an injury-time miss by Kagisho Dikgacoi.

"We had a great chance at the end and didn't take it," said Holloway. "We've got to learn very quickly.

"We need to be more adventurous. We haven't had a good pre-season. Half of them aren't fit."

Full-back Joel Ward agreed with his manager that Palace should have had a free-kick before Tottenham's penalty.

The 23-year-old said: "The gameplan was working and we maybe could have had a free-kick in the build-up to their penalty.

"It was a great opening day. We played well and were unlucky not to make more of our chances.

"We've got all the ability to give this season a really good go. We've got a fantastic bond and can cause a few upsets."

In other news, Celtic have just been defeated 2-0 by Shakhter Karagandy, champions of that footballing superpower that is Kazakhstan.

I know I'm supposed to see the funny side of this, being a Rangers supporter, but really this pours cold water on the claims of some of the other Scottish forum members who tell us Scottish football has gotten so much better without us. If Scottish football is not now plunging fresh new depths of embarrassment and ineptness, then I shudder to think what's to come

When you sell your spine, you get a spineless performance.

Don't think we are missing Wanyama so much, but Wilson and Ambrose were a good partnership, not rock solid, but pretty dependable. You cannot take a player (Mouyokolo) who wasn't good enough for a team relegated from the Championship and play him in a Champions League Qualifier. Samaras, for all his good and bad points, is not a 20 goal a season striker and certainly not the player to play upfront on his own. We need to go and sign a quality finisher, If it takes 5 or 6 million to get Finnbogason, then we have to go for it, though theres not much point in doing anything until after next weeks second leg. Celtic are a better team than Shakhter and I think we can put 3 or 4 past them at Parkhead, but they will come and put 9 or 10 men behind the ball and if we couldn't break them down over there, it's going to be even tougher at home now Shakhter have something to hold onto.

I try to be as positive as I can about Scottish football, so I still believe Scottish football is in a far better place than it was a couple of years ago, in no way have we gone backwards and its certainly not the predicted doom.

To be fair to Celtic I watched the game at work and they were on top most of the game but didn't take their chances at all where as Shakhter did. They were still the better side though regardless of the result imo.

I'm not comparing leagues. I don't care much for English football, watch the odd midweek game and sometimes catch a bit of MOTD. I find most English Premier League games dull. The standard in Scotland might not be particularly good, but there are far more exciting games in the SPL than the EPL.

Absolutely - an absolutely horrible away trip and don't think that was publicised enough in the media, despite this I think if you played the game again tomorrow Celtic would probably win. They will definitely win the return leg.
