It's the Football League, not the FA. They have a rule that says clubs will get a points deduction if they start the season in administration.

As to the number of points, they might as well pick them out of a bag.

We were told that Rotherham and us both lose 17 points for two administrations in 10 years, except that our previous one was 11 years prior. Not to pick on Rotherham, but to provide an example how the Football League doesn't really know what it was doing.

That is before I start on the criteria under which transfer embargos are imposed and lifted.

Wasnt there a lot more financial irregularities with Luton

Yes. Anyone who labels anything as 'certain' in football with regards to a team's chances is basically worth ignoring in my opinion. That said, I really don't fancy Blackpool's chances - they beat Doncaster on sufferance Saturday (Doncaster probably now the worst team in the league) and if they don't invest in some players, they will be in trouble.

Oldham are in action night in Capital One Cup first round match against Derby, hopefully it be good game and good crowd too with tickets only £10 so hope for around 5,000 fans at Boundary Park but probably only get 3,500 in ground tonight.

I think Oldham will beat Derby 2-1 with Baxter and Rooney getting score for Latics.

And as I type, Scunthorpe United have been beaten 5-4 on penalties by Barnsley, following a 0-0 draw after extra time.

Didn't think Wolves were too bad really. A bit sloppy, but they had some good chances that could easily have led to goals, such as the three shots that hit wordwork. Could easily have been 3-0 to them instead if they'd had a bit of luck.

Morecambe's defenders were in top form and that denied Wolves any more real goal scoring opportunities. Given that 5 of Morecambe's usual starters were all injured, including their entire front line, and they had to bring a couple of youngsters out of the youth team to fill their subs bench (they have the smallest squad in the league), they gave an excellent performance.

I'd say overall that they were evenly matched on the night and that it could have gone either way. Both teams were without their top players. All in all, some of the best football I've seen at Morecambe - plenty of end to end action - they do have this uncanny knack of pulling out all the stops when the chips are down yet sometimes seem to really struggle in normal league games against similar standard teams.

I wasn't bad game yesterday, you can see why Derby are championship team and Oldham are in League One, first half was better then second half in which Derby should incase they lead in second half and to be fair on Derby they should had two penalty but aleast ref turn them away.

Not bad crowd of 5,000 in which Derby only took 872 with them but come Saturday they probably only 3,500 to watch Latics first home league match against Walsall.

Nice to Bury won last night and with what happened with that club last season, it be nice to see them get premiership club in Second round maybe Liverpool or Newcastle playing against Bury at Anfield or St James park will be nice for Bury.

Looking at the draw for the second round, it's perhaps a good thing that Scunthorpe didn't get through to the second round. The chances of the Southampton manager and board getting a warm welcome here are more remote than me winning the lottery!

About time. The betting patterns on the game were ridiculous and if you go onto youtube and look at the two penalties rewarded, they are an absolute joke. The referee even puts his hands behind his head when the Inter player missed.

Just in case it had been missed, the much-travelled French striker Louis Saha retired yesterday, on his 35th birthday. He had most recently been at Lazio, and on his day whilst at United was a very decent player indeed. It is just a shame that he has been relatively injury prone in recent years, but a good player nonetheless. Joyeuse retraite Louis!

This sounds like the Rugby League club renaming idea (two major professional Rugby League clubs in Hulll), that saw the renaming of long-established named clubs to Salford City Reds, Wigan Warriors, etc, has now spread to an English Premiership football club.

Manchester United 2..Wigan Athletic 0.

Each side was given the facility of no less than six substitutes. The match was akin to a friendly match fixture and was not a great spectacle for the very large attendance. van Persie scored both the goals, which will make "Shrek" even more "unhappy".

Some "wags" have said that as the match was played at Wembley, a large percentage of the Manchester United support would be soon back at home in time for their tea....

I didn't watch the match but aleast Moyes have win a trophy if you count Community Shield, I never get why they played it at Wembley, surely they should played it at Etihad Stadium or even at Anfield as it be more easy for Wigan fans and probably Man Utd fans too to travel to.
