For all the anti-Pearce comment, I do like the fact that he has laid the blame squarely where it belongs, the players. They made it quite clear they would rather not have been there, and seemed not to be trying. There is only so much a manager can do, and if playing for their country is not enough to motivate them, then they should all be scrubbed off the list of "England qualified" players.

Exactly, England hadn't lost since November 2011 which demonstrates their ability, however when its taking up their summer holiday, they're not bothered so as to get on their holidays sooner. If I was Stuart Pearce I wouldn't release them until the date of the final, might see improvements if they knew they weren't on holiday as soon as they are eliminated.

While he was still at Oldham, I saw him play against (and destroy) Scunthorpe United twice. On his day, he is probably the best player in L1 and L2

Key words being "on his day". As with most clubs Argyle will wan't a striker that is consistantly good, but they cost lots of money or end up being poached by Premier League clubs who woo them with mega money and the chance to play in the "best League in the world".

Any talented player in the lower leagues dosen't stay there long unfortunately.

Being one of the main two Oldham Athletic contributors, I am more concerned at a comment that was made to me in a telephone conversation, that a consortium fronted by Stephen Vaughan, the former Chester City owner, is having exploratory talks with regard to putting a takeover bid together for Oldham Athletic.

Under his stewardship, Chester City were expelled in 2010 from the Football Conference for overdue tax payments. Is he really a fit person to run a football club ?

^^ Oldham confirm last week or couple of weeks ago that owned have not plans to sell Latics to anyone which I happy as I didn't what Vaughan become Latics owned special on what happen to Chester City in 2010.

As for Lewis Allessandra, from what I remember him he was good players for Oldham but I think he got injured quite few times and that why Latics let him leave for free to Morecambe but I think he should do well at Plymouth.

He also score a hat trick against David team Scunthorpe back in 2008/09 season so he might do same thing against Scunthorpe in League Two next season

I'm a York City season ticket holder. Worthington had a slow start but he ended a 3 month winless run and managed to keep us up by not losing our final 6/7 games. We have made 4 signings so far: Ryan Bowman, Sander Puri, Craig Clay and Ryan Jarvis. We should be getting a goalkeeper within a week or two but it has been a very quiet close season so far.
I couldn't believe it when Worthington joined. It doesn't seem that long ago when he was managing Norwich City and of course Northern Ireland and to have some one of that experience has seemed to have had a positive impact on the club. It is clear he is serious about his job and has the right contacts due to him having a 'bigger' name. I believe he is cousins with Brendan Rodgers.
Everyone at the club has had nothing but praise for Worthington and his backroom staff. Our last manager Gary Mills led us to Wembley twice, two weekends in a row and we won them both, one giving us a place in the leagues after what seemed a never ending run in the Blue Square (Conference). His sacking came as a surprise at the time but it was clear he (and the players) just weren't adapted to the league.

Fingers crossed, we can gain promotion but to be honest I would be happy with the play offs after the up and down season the club has had to endure over the last 9 months.

Latest news for York City fans is that it is rumoured that the club have made a bid for Torquay striker Rene Howe.

He had contractors doing work for Truro City and instructed them to all invoice Cornish Homes for the work in the weeks leading up to the insolvency.
Within a week of Cornish homes going under he had started a new building firm.
In 2010 he had a fortune worth £145m but went bankrupt in 2012!

My good lady wife, not noted for her interest in football but in finance matters, says that the New York Stock Exchange valuation of Manchester United had dropped by no less than 9%. The reason given by brokers was "impending transfer activity".

On a front somewhere nearer than "the land of the free", I see that Hearts say they will listen to offers on all their players in a bid to raise the required finance to meet a certain target.

Owen Coyle will be appointed as new Wigan Manager on a 12-month rolling contract.

Former Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle will be appointed as Wigan's new boss on a 12-month rolling contract.

The 46-year-old Scot will succeed Roberto Martinez at the DW Stadium, after the Spaniard joined Everton.

Coyle managed Bolton between 2010 and 2012, before being sacked five months after being relegated from the Premier League.

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan, 76, has confirmed to BBC sport a deal in principle has been agreed.

Wigan were relegated into the Championship last season but May's FA Cup win sees them in the Europa League.

"I have agreed a deal in principle with Owen and his agent is now with our chief executive to finalise the deal," Whelan told BBC Sport . "But as far as I'm concerned, we have sorted it and I hope the rest will be sorted in the next hour.

"I've told him returning to the Premier League is the total and utter priority. It's fantastic that we are in Europe but that comes second and he knows that the Premier League is where we have to be.

"It's been no easy task but Owen has shown enthusiasm and passion from the moment I met him. He's been there and done it with Burnley.

"He wasn't so successful at Bolton but he had a lot of injuries and bad luck. People forget that. You need luck on times but he's certainly got the passion, energy and enthusiasm I was looking for."

Whelan also confirmed Coyle would be appointed on the basis of a 12-month rolling contract.

"When you're in a situation like we are at Wigan and have just been relegated from the Premier League, the amount of money we receive is going to go down," he said.

"So I can't commit to telling a manager I'm going to pay him a certain amount for so many years as we have to be careful. Wigan is a special club and we are run a certain way and I will take no risks."

I now see why Alex Cisak rejected new contract at Latics as Burnley sign him yesterday.

Championship side Burnley have signed former Oldham goalkeeper Alex Cisak on a two-year deal.

The 24-year-old Australian spent much of last season playing second fiddle to Dean Bouzanis and the Latics chose not to take the option up on his contract.

Cisak began his career at Leicester and has also had spells at Oxford, Tamworth, Accrington and Portsmouth.

"He is someone who wants to improve and most of all wants to be number one," said Burnley manager Sean Dyche.

"We want the players to demand and challenge to be in the team and to perform."

I hope not, although the pair would be a match made in heaven.
St Austell RFC blew millions following the sale of their old ground to ASDA (where asda is now is the old rugby site) on getting to the higher leagues, but was unsustainable and crashed back to Cornwall One, now going up again.
From inner contacts I have heard rumours that their current ground is For Sale as a development opportunity subject to new facilities being located. I heard these about 18 months ago. Perfect for Mr Heaney to get going again.
