No match till next Tuesday for the Owls, Millwall away is off. Booked my train tickets down to the rearranged fixture on a Tuesday night in April. I think I'll be safer at the New Den on a Tuesday evening than at Leeds away 4 days later. There is absolutely no way that Leeds v Wednesday will pass off peacefully, the home fans the prime reason. Leeds should have been fined for their fans disgraceful behaviour that night in October. I'll rather save £36 that day and stick it towards Peterborough away, train and admission could be covered with £36!

I was at Hillsbrough that night.

I assume you mean the young chap that ran onto the pitch who assaulted Chris Kirkland? That was a disgraceful incident and he was rightly sent to prison. Another fan that ran on the pitch has recently being given a 3 year banning order. The club were fined for it.

The chants directed towards Dave Jones were in very bad taste but there were a reaction to the Sheffield Wednesday chants. Two wrongs don't make a right but you know what football fans are like and it's pretty rich from you that you haven't put any responsibility at the feet of your own fans.

How come you haven't mentioned the large section of Sheffield Wednesday fans that were chanting for ages about Turkey. Making constant reference to the stabbing victims, when I watched the game back on Sky Sports it was clearly audible. How come you haven't mentioned that? Those chants are sickening and have no place in football. So don't go taking the moral high ground because Wednesday fans chanting was just as bad as Leeds fans that night.

It was a poor night for Yorkshire football. Most of the agression I saw after the game on the trams was from Wednesday fans, two were starting on some young lass for some reason until SYP weighed in. Pointless.

Sheffield Wednesday were as much to blame as Leeds for that night.

The way it works now at Elland Road is that away fans are only allowed to access certain parts around the stadium. After the game, a temporary corridor is constructed that allows the away fans to leave the ground and walk to their buses without trying to attack Leeds fans leaving the home ends. Home fans can no longer access the West Stand car park until all the away fans are on the buses, either organised transport or shuttle buses to the railway station.

I can only assume from your comments that you condone the killing of Leeds fans in Turkey as you seem to accept the chanting as ok. It wasn't 8 or 9 chanting it that night, it was 8 or 9 thousand. Here is a video, quite audible is "Always look out for Turks carrying knives" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-rqBjwYEcI but that's ok is it? I find your comments deeply disturbing.

Many Leeds fans still feel strongly about what happened in Turkey and if Wednesday fear trouble because of their chants then they should have thought about that in the first place. In my opinion however, with the way things are policed I don't see there being much bother at all and most Wednesday fans probably won't be as quick to run their mouths outside of their own manor.

On the pitch, you'll beat us if Warnock if still here. And yeah, our ticket prices are a disgrace.

Graham Westley has finally left PNE. Been waiting all season for this moment....

This can go two ways.

Either the players realise that they are getting a kick up the backside, or it will be an easy 3 points for us because you have no leadership.

I guess we will know after 10 minutes on Saturday. Shame you are playing us next. Probably not the best time to run into the league leaders, eh? (This phrase sounds so weird.)

Some promising news in relation to next month's IFAB meeting...

Source: BBC

Footballers may trial wearing microchips to monitor health

Footballers may soon be wearing an electronic chip in their shirt to help warn of medical problems.

The International Football Association Board (Ifab) will decide in March whether to run a trial of the system.

The measure is being considered after Bolton's Fabrice Muamba suffered a heart attack on the pitch last year.

Ifab, which makes the laws of football, consists of the FAs of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland who get a vote each, and Fifa, which has four.

Any electronic communication between the players and staff in the technical area is currently banned.

The issue will be on the agenda when Ifab has its annual meeting in Edinburgh on 3 March.

"We are looking at whether there are medical benefits, such as whether it can warn of problems such as Fabrice Muamba suffered, which would make it a no brainer for this to come in," Scottish FA chief executive Stewart Regan said.

"We are trying to consider whether or not things can make a positive difference in the game rather than just another example of technology being brought in.

"There is a chip in the shirt at the back of the player's neck and the data is fed back into a laptop."

The data that the chip will monitor includes heart performance, body temperature and the distance being covered.

It's about time something like this was done. Anything to reduce the health risks attached to playing the game, which can so cruelly affect essentially anyone without warning (as with the likes of Marc-Viven Foe, for instance)...

Nobody has disputed that Old Trafford is not in the borough of the city of Manchester, but it has been pointed out many times before that it is within Greater Manchester. I'm not sure that anyone else considers the way local government is organised in that area to really matter when it comes to the name of a football club.

Clearly it's caused a great deal of confusion to you though, because until very recently you were calling the club 'Salford'. The club is in Trafford, a borough of Greater Manchester, not Salford.

I see you edited your post during the time I was writing my response. You removed one insult that you have levelled at me repeatedly and changed it to a more general insult aimed at all the fans of the club. Neither made much sense as an insult though.

What is the point of this argument, or banter if some people prefer?

So it is within Greater Manchester but not within Manchester City Council jurisdiction. So what? Interpret what "Manchester" means for yourself.

Blundell Park is not in Grimsby, City Ground is not in Nottingham City, Upton Park is not in West Ham... There are plenty of examples. This is getting boring so can we talk about something else?

I hope its on ITV 1, its going to be a cracker if it is!

You'd better also hope it's on 5Live if you want more competent commentators . Still, at least you won't have ITV ignoring the game in hand to talk about one of their favoured clubs!

I don't like the Champions League though; the games themselves are usually dull (I don't find stringing 20 passes and ended up where you started exciting), diving is commonplace and tackling may as well be a capital offence. The commentary is almost as bad as when England play, it's as though playing a team from another country means any pretence at neutrality is abandoned and xenophobia commences and the gameplay doesn't matter in the face of self-aggrandisement.

Are you aware that the breakaway football club of FC United of Manchester, that was formed by Manchester United supporters who could not tolerate the American owners of Manchester United, actually play their home matches in Bury ?......The football authorities see no reason to ask that club to change its name to FC United of Bury.

In answer to your past geographical confusion to the location of the city of Salford, who I presume are not one of your customers, do you also recall that you then compounded this error at a later date by making reference to Trafford FC, who are an existing club and I went to the trouble of giving you full details of that particular club.

There has to be recognition as to the historical scenario of the city in which Manchester United were formed and of the reason why this club name was taken when the original Newton Heath club name was changed. I can give you an example in Scotland where East Stirlingshire FC are concerned. They played at Firs Park in Falkirk from 1921 until they changed their home ground at the start of the 2007-8 season to Ochilview Park, Stenhousemuir, which they now ground-share with the owners of that ground, Stenhousemuir FC.

May I suggest that you make a telephone call to the club offices of Real Madrid and ask them what city they will be playing the return leg in.

At the risk of being accused of stating the obvious, may I ask what exactly is the big issue with that?

But it isn't in Salford.

It is one thing to correct a common misconception - i.e. to point out that MUFC are not located in Salford, but to be pedantic about the precise location of a match taking place within the Greater Manchester conurbation is another.

As far as I am concerned, it is in Manchester. Much like Wimbledon is in London (despite not being in The City of London).

none at all. but paul is always quick to correct us when we say Salford etc. so I was just correcting him.

Unless I've somehow managed to miss it nobody has claimed that Old Trafford is located within the boundaries of the borough of the city of Manchester. You therefore have had no cause to correct anyone.

When Paul has corrected you it's because you have called the club Salford, when it isn't located in Salford.

Most others probably just wonder why the local authority boundaries of the Greater Manchester area are of such a concern to you.

As my last request has been duly ignored, I will spell out the consequences very clearly.

All this pedantry over the location of Man Utd's ground is causing a lot of grief and complaints. This is undoubtedly driving some people away from otherwise quite enjoyable discussions about football.

I don't like to do this however I am going to request explicitly that no further discussion regarding this very same issue carries on any longer as this is getting very tiresome. This is no longer a little bit of banter. If this request is ignored then it will result in the immediate closure of this very thread and no replacement thread will be opened. This will unfortunately spoil it for everyone however I am aware that PMs from the staff team have been ignored and this simply cannot be allowed to carry on any further.

The very issue has been debated and now please all move on.

Graham Westley has finally left PNE. Been waiting all season for this moment....

Just going back to this for a minute - anyone know what the record for number of managers to get the sack over the course of a season is? I can't remember there being so many casualties in a season than in the current one...

And quite a few who seem to arrive in one place, then move on within the space of a few months or so (O'Driscoll, Appleton and now Robins spring to mind). Even Westley was only in the job at Preston for less than a year... :?

Of the 96 premiership and league managers, only 43 have been in their position longer than January 2012.
there has been 43 managerial changes since the last day of 2011/12 season.
There has been 13 managerial changes since 1st January 2013

source http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_English_Football_League_managers hasnt updated to show Westley/ Robins so that will take us up to 15 managerial changes already in 2013

Haven't got a clue how Bale does what he does. Once was special, twice is something else.

Great to see Friedel still going strong at 41 also - IMO he's one of the best foreign 'keepers ever to play in England.

In other English Europa League news, Liverpool lost 2-0 at Zenit St Petersburg , Newcastle drew 1-1 with Metalist (whom I believe are also playing Whitley Bay as part of their time on Tyneside) and Chelsea beat Sparta Prague 1-0. Return legs are next week.

Alty had a 2 month (If I've remembered the dates right) two month unbeaten run broken at Histon on Tuesday evening, when they, based on the performance they gave, failed to turn up for the match, losing 2-0.

I've also been asked this morning, near Carrow Road, Norwich, what the <bleep> a Stoke fan is doing here. Its fun when people assume that only one team wears red and white stripes
