If Celtic or Rangers ever get let into the English football structure that is the day I will give up watching football for ever. It should never even be considered

I know that some people will go to any depths to offend, but it appears that a 21 year old student from Pontypridd at Swansea University has, this morning, appeared at Swansea Magistrates Court after admitting posting racially offensive messages on Twitter about Patrice Muamba. It is said that police forces all over that area received complaints and he was arrested as a result of these complaints.

Some of the stuff he was tweeting was absolutely vile.

Personally, I hope the court orders the confiscation and destruction of all his computing equipment, and Swansea University kick him out.

Absolutely disgraceful. David's suggestion is the least they should do.

If Swansea University do not throw him out the negative publicity aimed at them will destroy their reputation.

you let the welsh in.

None of the teams based in Wales have a history of sectarian violence. Plus the Welsh were let in decades ago

Personally, I hope the court gives him the appropriate sentence for the crime committed and any emotion is left outside the court.

Or it'll all blow over when a more newsworthy story comes along. Namely next week at the lastest

Yes, I agree, the punishment should fit the crime. Here's why I think he should be severly punished though.

It was sustained outburst (first tweet about Muamba was about half past 10, last 1 before his account was suspended was just after midnight. It wasn't just 1 or 2 tweets either), where the racism was a lot worse than the twitter account Matt linked to ....

All I can say is ... Through his own stupidity, he has right royally <expletive> up his life and will forever be branded a racist.

english football fans are hardly in a position to comment on the behaviour of any other football fans. A terrible generalisation i know, but nothing worse than you're levelling at celtic fans.

i could go into plenty of threads in this forum and say "it's ok, it's been done for years" or "thats just the way it is" and there'd be people wanting me hung from the highest tree.

tbh it just looks like you're discriminating against us

Which English clubs are known for sectarianism?

On a more practical point of view Glasgow would be quite/too far for lower league clubs to get to, especially given football's finances.

there's been plenty of sectarian abuse hurled at spurs over the years.
you'll be very hard pushed to find any football club who don't have an unsavoury element of some sort amongst their fans.

tbqh i've lived in glasgow for 32 years and i've yet to see anyone being assaulted because they're either catholic or protestant, the vast majority of whats reported is nothing more than media hype.

i don't recall hearing too many complaints of sectarianism whenever there's a testimonial or pre season friendly to be played. it's always been "get the daft jocks down, they'll bring a massive support and we'll be quids in".

On a more practical point of view Glasgow would be quite/too far for lower league clubs to get to, especially given football's finances.

i'm sure the t.v. deal that would follow any such move would more than compensate for the extra travelling, failing that i'm sure celtic would gladly provide transport for any teams that were short of cash.

Was there not a ruling from FIFA, quite some years ago, concerning clubs based in Scotland NOT being allowed to join the English leagues ?

football is more a business now than sport and when sky decide that the format needs a shake up and a new freshness then thats what will happen.

His condition does seem to be improving, which is promising...

Fabrice Muamba can recognise family, say hospital and Bolton

Fabrice Muamba "has been able to recognise family members and respond to questions appropriately", his club Bolton and hospital have jointly said.

He can "breathe independently" but remains in intensive care after a cardiac arrest on Saturday.

A joint statement by the London Chest Hospital and Bolton said he continues "to show signs of improvement".

It adds: "His condition remains serious and our medical staff will continue to monitor and treat him."

An earlier statement had said "he is also moving his arms and legs" but "his long-term prognosis will remain unclear for some time".

Bolton are considering withdrawing from the cup, as many of their players can't face going to white hart lane so soon after this. Seen this reported on BBC earlier

Just had this forwarded to me (relates to Bath City)...

Name the Stadium for £50!

Bath City Football Club are offering businesses, fans, and the general public a chance to win the naming rights to their stadium for an incredibly low price!

Special £50 ticket packages that include an entry into the upcoming Stadium Name Draw are now on sale! (click here to purchase)

The price has been kept deliberately low to enable small businesses and individuals to enter, and entrants are encouraged to be creative with their choice.

You could choose to name the stadium after a friend or family member, a favourite player, a favourite charity, a newborn baby, or maybe as a very dramatic way to pop the question – just imagine the Marry Me Susan?? Stadium (terms and conditions apply – click here for details).

This includes four free tickets to Bath City vs Forest Green Rovers - valued at £56. So you are effectively saving £6 on entry and having the opportunity to name Twerton Park to something as you please! If I had the money available I certainly would consider it...

Why don't other clubs think of anything like this?

Do I take it that you are then saying that FIFA will allow Sky to decide on the future way forward for British football without the FIFA imposition of sanctions against British international teams and British club sides ?

Or have I misread the wording of your posting ......

To be fair they probably couldn't do a worse job than FIFA, one of the most corrupt governing bodies I can think of. At least Sky don't take bribes or award summer world cups to countries to play in 35c...

However, I too am puzzled by that post.

no. you have read my posting correctly, sky are "the piper" and when the piper plays his tune everybody dances.

if celtic or any other team registered with any football association governed by F.I.F.A applied to leave its own respective football association then there is nothing to stop it happening, back in 2008 F.I.F.A set a precident by allowing new wellington pheonix of new zealand to leave their association and join the australian F.A on the grounds of lack of competition in their own league.(pheonix were the only full time and professional club in that league).

on 21 December 2008 the FIFA President stated unequivocally that "It is not the matter of the Confederation, it is the matter of the FIFA Executive Committee... If Wellington will go on play on in Australian League, then as long as Australian league wants to have them and Wellington wants to stay (and) Both association in this case, New Zealand Soccer and Australian Football are happy with that then we will give them the blessing. The Confederation can not interfere with that."

sky and espn pay £1.78 billion for the tv deal between 2010 and 2013.
now if sky say they want games played in a swamp at 3am, thats what will happen, just the same as if they want celtic or rangers in the EPL to inject some new life into it.

Back in 2008 F.I.F.A set a precedent by allowing new wellington Phoenix of new Zealand to leave their association and join the Australian F.A on the grounds of lack of competition in their own league.(Phoenix were the only full time and professional club in that league).

How can you possibly use the example of New Wellington Phoenix of New Zealand as an example to back up your assertion that there is nothing that FIFA will do to stop Scottish clubs joining the English leagues. Your own posting admits that New Wellington Phoenix were the only full-time and professional team in their league and that was the reason for that dispensation. I am sure that the other clubs in the Scottish Premier League would be insulted by this comparison.

When you bring the matter of a large television organisation deciding that it will take on the international body for a sport, you can draw a comparison to what Kerry Packer did not so many years ago to the International Body for the sport of cricket. But you will find that FIFA are in no way comparable to that cricketing body in size or in influence. I for one would not underestimate the power wielded by FIFA in terms of football sanctions at top professional levels, both international and club, on a world-wide basis. I can see long and protracted legal arguments being made in the court cases that would undoubtedly follow an attempt by Sky to do as you intimate could occur.

The Murdoch empire is not very happy with events that have occurred in different fields in recent times and they are doing all they can to try to restore the damage caused to their reputation. Entering into the costly litigation that would follow such a decision will not be part of their agenda for some time in the foreseeable future.

Blanco. You are missing one vital thing. Any admittance of the Filthy Two to the English set up would require current member clubs to vote in favour. Time and time again this has been utterly rejected. Never going to happen.

And anyway I would like you to give me one good reason why it should other than financial reasons.

The English football set up owes Celtic and Rangers nothing. They have no reason to want them in the English set up whatsoever. Why don't PSV or Ajax join the German system. Benfica to Spain. Anderlecht to France. Its a nonsense. You two just carry on being the big fish in a small pond. Its not the job of the English football authorities to look after you.

I would love for the 'other ten' such as the sporting media (English and so called Scottish) tend to refer to them, to break away and form their own league without the Old Firm. A much more open competition not driven by TV money and no need to spend beyond their means to get the odd European finish.

All that's needed is for the other 10 chairmen to spot this as a golden opportunity to rid scottish football of the sectarian nonsense and make it about the football rather than the colours or 'whit school ye went ti'.

Chelsea's Jacob Mellis has left the club by mutual consent after admitting setting off a smoke grenade at their Cobham training ground.

So Ashley Cole can shoot people and stay, but this lad can't? :|

the point being that fifa allowed it because there was agreement between the aussie and new zealand football bodies. regardless of anything else they have set a precedent, and there are numerous teams in europe and around the world who play in different leagues from their own.

SKY wouldn't be battling fifa or uefa and there would be no litigation either, it will all go along the lines of,

MR SKY; hello MR EPL you know the tv deal is up for renewal next season, well i've been thinking that i would like to see celtic and rangers in the epl, the spl is fooked and it would REALLY be the mother of all competitions with the english v the jocks. well, have a think about it, but before you go if you let the jocks in i'll give you £xmillion per season for agreeing to my bright idea but if you don't i'll only give you £ymillion per season because it's getting a bit stale here and i think you've had plenty from me over the years.

the "other ten" had their chance, resigned "en masse" and then bottled it and came back with their tails between their legs.
just remember it's the old firm who keep your team afloat, or why else are you so desperate to ramp up ticket prices any time the old firm come to town.

the "filthy two" lol, you need to have a look at some of your own clubs behaviours over the years.

nobody says the english owe us anything and there doesn't need to be any reasons other than financial because we all know when the offers good enough any morals or objections will go straight out of the window.

I see that no response has been received that will satisfactorily explain why those English clubs will suddenly accept any club from Scotland into the English leagues, when they have been implacable in their opposition to this proposal previously.

Let us now examine a possibility that may well occur and that is a reduction of the number of teams in the English premiership. How will two FURTHER teams being ADDED to the existing 20 affect these proposals?

do you think these proposals just appear out of thin air, what on earth could anybody benefit if these were fantasy tales.
the sky deal is up next season and now we've got a GB olympic football team.
i know fifa have said it won't have an effect on the individual standings of the home nations, but don't think for a minute that the other fifa members will take this lying down.
we're going quickly down the road to a permanent team GB and it will be in the not too near future.and forget the scottish independance thing because that will never be allowed to happen.

it will always be a league of 20, if it happens celtic would start in league 2 and work from there.
