Instead, the players have let down AVB, the club and the fans. I've read that John Terry (why is that no surprise?) led a players revolt against AVB because his plans over the next few seasons were to replace the over 30s with younger players.

That's one of the problems with the modern game (and to a point society in general) - a lack of respect. Player power (or its social equivalent) is becoming omnipresent. Gone are the days of managers effectively being able to sort out the problem players...

whys that...as you will probably win a few more matches down there? i prefer the championship, bit less predictable for who will be top. definitely never seen Southampton being up there at any point!

The Championship is certainly less predictable and less dominated by money, and the atmosphere is more like football used to be back in the old First Division. It would be nice to survive in the top flight but not at the expense of selling out to some dodgy foreigner and buying in a bunch of temperamental mercenaries. Not that I'm bitter or anything.

I would have put money on it if I had some spare I was fairly confident they would manage it.

Having said that, the last time I nearly did a bet would have been England 0-2 Holland - and that would have gone up in smoke. For some reason I lose almost every football bet I place but win almost every non-football bet I place...

So near, yet so far for Arsenal - the second half was 0-0 resulting in a 3-0 score and 3-4 on aggregate. Chelsea are the only English team left in the Champions' League now - out of ~12 (incluidng some of the second round ties).

That would have been another bet down the drain!

However, Scunthorpe victory at Oldham has come at a cost, with the 3rd Scunthorpe United player sent off in 3 games. That means that Sam Togwell, Michael O'Conner and now Josh Walker will not be available for the trip to Preston on Saturday.

Things don't seem to have gone too well for Rangers today...

Seven or eight Rangers players reject cuts proposals

Rangers administrators ended a "very frustrating day" of talks by announcing that they had failed to agree on cuts with some members of the squad.

David Whitehouse emerged from Murray Park late on Tuesday to say talks would resume early on Wednesday.

BBC Scotland believes seven or eight players have yet to agree to a deal.

On a day Gregg Wylde and Mervan Celik left Rangers voluntarily, Whitehouse said: "There is still some hope these issues can be resolved in the morning."

The BBC has been told that the club's biggest stars are being asked to take wage cuts of 75%, middle earners 50% and the lower paid members of the squad 25%.

The administrators said that an agreement in principle on the salary reductions had been reached earlier on Tuesday but it is understood that personal conditions, such as whether players would be able to leave in future, were the sticking point.

It is understood the players, who are among the highest earners at Ibrox, have been unable to agree changes to their contracts in return for the cuts in salary they are being asked to take.

You could apply the same to any business in these times who do not want wages frozen or cut.

Went to the KC last night to watch the mighty Leeds away at Hull.

It was Hull's biggest crowd of the season apparently which I thought was strange for a Tuesday night but then I remember they were playing Leeds and it's their cup final.

Still, they made very little noise. What the hell is that song they play pre-match, something like "Tigers, tigers, burning bright!" Just awful, I hate that type of rubbish, embarrasing. On the pitch though we didn't get "mauled by the tigers" it was pretty dull 0-0 draw. That's three games under Warnock and 0 goals so far, not very encouraging but obviously very early days.

Not a very exciting night all in all.

Pretty damning article on the STV website concerning the situation at Rangers ....

I do not believe that there is a reasonable prospect that the company can come out of administration. I believe that liquidation is inevitable.

Now that I have evidenced the true position I wish to commend HMRC for showing the maximum restraint that it possibly could have under its mandate to collect taxes that are due.

The empathy that HMRC has demonstrated to the club and its fans is particularly gratifying given the abuse perpetrated on HMRC by Craig Whyte in withholding ongoing tax payments to fund the club- while simultaneously pretending that he was using his own funds.

From the look of that, it appears that Criag Whyte could be charge with numerous offences, including, but not limited to, tax evasion and fraud.

Indeed you are correct, as it balances the fact that Oldham Athletic won away to Scunthorpe in a match earlier this season.....yet it only confirms what I have said about Oldham Athletic's home performances being "dire", yet away from home, they seem to play with far more freedom, as they proved at the weekend with a 3-2 away win at second-placed Sheffield United. The words "Jekyll" and "Hyde" spring readily to mind.

Conference North news...

After the good weekend performances from the top two clubs, the two Monday night matches in the league featured the top three clubs. However, whilst league leaders Hyde FC had the expected 4-0 home win against Workington, second placed Nuneaton Town were at home to third placed Guiseley and that match finished in a 1-1 draw.

This now leaves Hyde FC ten points clear of Nuneaton Town, with both sides having played 32 league matches.
