One of these days I would like to see England not qualify or, better yet, only allow pundits to talk about the game currently on

Like USA 94? Or 1984/ 2008 when we failed to qualify for the Euros?

it doesn't make any difference. There is still a need to "cross sell" games and fill in screen time.

Is it the case that VAR is being used in this World Cup and if so, in which particular areas of possible decision contention will it be used to cover?
If it's anything like we've had in the A-league it's for Goals, Red cards, Penalties & Mistaken identity.

Funny enough on the Optus thing. They've had more issues to the point for the next 48 hours the games will be on SBS.

It was definitely a penalty as was the man handling of Kane at the other end.

Penalty decisions aside, England have looked as good as I've seen in a long time. Got out at them quickly and actually passed the ball with intent instead of the boring, going nowhere sideways passing that we've seen in recent years. If we'd have been more clinical up top the game would have been over before Tunisia had even got close to our penalty area

How could that not be a penalty?
The Tunisian one? It is soft. If that is a penalty the game is finished. Gone. There was nothing in it. You used to have to actually foul people to give away a penalty. Now a brush against someone and it is a booking. It is a joke.

You didn't need a replay to see the Kane one. Shocking it was missed. It was a rugby tackle.

Is the VA in VAR variable accuracy ? - it's only as good as the people monitoring it I suppose.

Have all the midges left Scotland and descended on Russia by the sound of it ?

Why did Walker swing his arm back as the Tunisian player was about to challenge for the ball?

That's not something you'd do naturally as part of a fair challenge.

He is doing what is known as defending. If you think that is a penalty you have watched far too much soft premier league football. Shocking. The game is ruined

I dunno, I'm not much of a football fan but an arm around the neck? That's surely gotta be frowned upon, this isn't wrestling.

No he isn't. I'd expect that to be given when The Dog & Duck play The Red Lion on Hackney Marshes

Don't be silly. That us standard defending. Use your body to block the forward.

It isn't an elbow or some kind of violent act. He us using his arm to stop the run/movement. There will be 5 or 6 penalties a game if that is a penalty.

It is a joke and anyone who watches football regularly knows it

And the picture above is.misleading. There is minimal contact and the Tunisian has gone down like he had been shot. If you can't see that you need to get to Specsavers with the ref.

The writhing about on the floor holding his face is what bought the penalty. Shocking and you should all be calling it was it is. Cheating.

Whether you like it or not, he's struck the opponent. It doesn't have to be deliberate. That's a foul punishable by a direct free kick or penalty.
The referee has interpreted it as careless, hence no caution.

Direct free kick

A direct free kick is awarded if a player commits any of the following offences against an opponent in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:
  • charges
  • jumps at
  • kicks or attempts to kick
  • pushes
  • strikes or attempts to strike (including head-butt)
  • tackles or challenges
  • trips or attempts to trip
If an offence involves contact it is penalised by a direct free kick or penalty kick.
  • Careless is when a player shows a lack of attention or consideration when making a challenge or acts without precaution. No disciplinary sanction is needed
------
IMPEDING THE PROGRESS OF AN OPPONENT WITHOUT CONTACT
A player may shield the ball by taking a position between an opponent and the ball if the ball is within playing distance and the opponent is not held off with the arms or body.

It isn't a foul. It isn't a penalty. The game has gone soft regardless of what the law says. I know I sound like an old gadge but it used to be a physical mans game. Now it is about cheating and conning and diving.

I reiterate: in the past you had to actually foul people to concede a penalty. Now you have to stare at someone oddly and you conceede a penalty.

Btw I have played Sunday league. If you think that is given as a foul there you are in for a shock

We've got away with one there. For as good as the first half performance was, the 2nd was pretty poor. The intensity just disappeared but the important thing is the 3 points. Lots of positives to take forward

The correct result in the end. England played quite well first half and made a number of good chances. They dropped off the pace in the second half but Tunisia put 11 men behind the ball and showed no ambition. They switched from zonal marking at set pieces to man for man and matched England for shape. It should have been 5 or 6 to England without exaggerating, Tunisia had one shot from a dodgy penalty and were a very poor team.

The referee was very poor. Clueless almost. The decision on the Tunisia penalty was wrong then to miss a clear rugby tackle on Kane is terrible. The VAR is a joke.

So he did. Therefore it's judged as reckless rather than careless.

It was neither.

Wasn’t a foul; wasn’t a pen. Agree with @DarloRich. Far too soft to be a penalty. Suspect not many people here play football.
