I note the contract extension proviso that you refer to above and wonder if that was in the mind of the Sunderland board when they appointed Sam Allardyce as their new manager today but only on a contract term length of just TWO years?

He will be gone by next October-January period. Look at their record, sack their manager mid season every year.

Looks like all the poor Scottish football fans will once again be watching a major tournament on the telly.
To rub it in it's quite possible every other country in the UK and even R.O.I will be there in person.

It will be very funny if by some major statistical fluke Scotland qualify for the only world cup ever with no alcohol in Quatar although Scotland qualifying is so unlikely as to be ridiculous.

To be fair to Scotland if they beat Samoa in the rugby they will at least get father than the dismal England.

First Agüero injured his hamstring yesterday and had to be stretchered off. Then Silva hacked down by a Luxembourg player.

It was actually a surprisingly good performance from a slightly under strength England side, admittedly against a lacklustre opposition. The only real disappointment was that England probably should've scored more given the amount of possession they had. Lallana and Clyne stood out, as did Sterling. Dele Alli, who 6 months ago was playing in the third division, did himself no harm in his late cameo appearance.

However, the real signs of progress will come in a month's time with friendlies against more seasoned opponents...

I think something that has been overlooked in the media is that Roy should be given praise for getting what is quite an average quality team through with so far the only 100% win record in qualification.
I get bored of all the tinted glasses in the media thinking England are under performers and the best in the world and should win everything. Quite frankly the current England squad is the lowest quality I can remember yet Roy is getting results. Might not be pretty but we are winning,

Oldham lost for only third time (in league) and drop into bottom 4, four goals scored in first 35 mins same as last weekend against Gillingham and sound like Scunthorpe took they chances in second half were Oldham didn't.

A disappointing result far removed from the FA Cup game a month ago. Winchester City took the lead but were soon pegged back and were undone by superb defending by the home side as their lacklustre away form continues. Well done. There seemed to be quite a number of postponed matches in the Evo-Stik Premier Division, amongst which was Hyde United's home fixture against Skelmersdale United.

FA Cup 3rd qualifying round yesterday. Hyde were replaying (ineligible player?) the 2nd qualifying round v Northwich (they lost in both).

Would the match have had to be replayed because Northwich Victoria had played an ineligible player in the first match, as if Hyde United had been the offending club and beaten in the first match, there was no need to force Northwich Victoria to replay the match. I still remember cases of clubs such as Bury in the FA Cup being thrown out of the competition for fielding an illegible player and the match being awarded to the other side. To rub salt into the Hyde United wounds, the score with six minutes to play was 1-1 and a Northwich Victoria fired a high ball into the Hyde United penalty area which the goalkeeper inexplicably decided to fumble under the crossbar into his own net...

Even more eye-catching if you consider that Coleshill Town beat Bolehall Swifts by the same scoreline in a league cup match on Tuesday evening.

I cannot express exactly how unremarkable I find that score to be, for two reasons.
1) I got to watch a 15 - 1 last weekend
and more importantly
2) It's AFC Fylde. They're being bankrolled.

I really hope that after the very harsh way that your team was treated by the football authorities some time ago, that the Evo Stik Premier League will be the next stage in climbing the ladder back to your Football League status.

I still feel somewhat sorry that Hyde United beat you in this season's FA Cup qualifying rounds, as unlike us, I am sure that you would have seen off Northwich Victoria in the match we lost TWICE!!! (I note that Northwich Victoria won 4-2 at Marine last night in the following FA Cup qualifying round).

Hyde United have a long trip up to Durham Whitby Town tonight, so I wonder if the cup defeat will have checked their recent league revival.

At home, the Netherlands brought down the curtain on a qualifying group to forget, being 3-0 down at one time in the match. Robin van Persie decided to make his mark by scoring for BOTH sides.

Thanks! We have a long way to go. I remain to be convinced we have enough in the team to gain promotion this season as there are some very tough teams in this league and the quality is actually pretty close but we have started well enough!

Hyde seemed to be one of the better organised teams we played so i find it surprising they are so far down the league. I think that it is a league where almost anyone can beat anyone else. Player availability is a big concern due to the part time nature of teams and we struggle with the travel to the NW for mid week games. Players at our level have real jobs and we have blokes who come straight form work to play or go straight to work after a night game!

Also surprised you didn't see off Northwich Vics tbh!

I am sorry that I mentioned the wrong team in the North-East...it is Whitby Town we are playing...:roll:....This is just an outstanding Evo-Stik Premier League match...19;45 kick off

Whitby Town are in 22nd place, having won 2 of their 7 home matches
Hyde United are in 20th place, having won 3 of their 6 away matches

Nothing will surprise me as the outcome of this particular match.

Petersfield Town 2...Winchester City 4 (Neal 10, Briggs 44; Norgate 2og, Bentley 45, Bosma 48, Roberts 78, Benali s/o 87)

Winchester City march into the second round of the Red Insure Cup (or, the Southern League Cup sponsored by Red Insure) with a victory at their local rivals. Despite going up early on City were pegged back on ten minutes despite suspicions of handball. Just before half time the hosts took the lead but City pulled back immediately. City took the lead just after half time and Petersfield were reduced to ten men soon afterwards. Adam Roberts made the game safe with twelve minutes to go and City had little trouble, despite the late loss of Luke Benali to a second yellow card.

Tonight I dipped my toe in the MLS water and went to my first game.
FC Dallas v Vancouver Whitecaps. Standard wasn't the best but was a decent enough game. Certainly on a par with some of the dross I have watched at Villa Park recently. Ended 2-0 to FCD. They also missed a penalty and had a goal disallowed

I suppose that Danny Ings must feel that the fates have most certainly conspired against him since he moved from Burnley to Liverpool before this season started which allowed him the opportunity to play at a higher level and he has scored for Liverpool this season.

Now a cruciate ligament injury sustained in a Liverpool training session is said to have now ruled him out for the rest of this season.
