Yes, Dnipro or Sevilla will be playing Champions League football next year, although whether its in the qualifiers or straight into the group stages I can't remember.


In domestic football news, Wycombe Wanderers comfortably held off Plymouth 2-1 (5-3) to book a Wembley date with Southend United, who beat Stevenage 3-1 (4-2) AET. That match will be played week Saturday (which I will be attending, in the Wycombe end)

I wonder if any of our resident Aston Villa fans would like to make their feelings known in a posting on this thread regarding the FA fine of £200,000 that has just been given to Aston Villa as a result of the pitch invasions that took place at Villa Park when the FA Cup quarter-final match against West Bromwich Albion was played this season.

It's probably fair and it seems to be the standard fare for pitch invasions. It did give the national pundits more opportunity to pour scorn on midlands football and to not talk about a game in which we dominated and won. The FA do make molasses look like Sonic the Hedgehog sometimes though.

I am reasonably OK with the fine, it was always going to be a big one. I am disappointed with the fact that the Albion fans part in the scenes were not punished though. I do think the way this incident was portrayed on the BBC and other media made it out to be far worse than it actually was. I am also a bit peeved that subsequent pitch invasions have been treated entirely differently but I understand why they were.
But we will just have to win their premier competition in a couple of weeks time to get the money back

Based on what I've seen of both teams this season (I saw both teams home and away against Alty, away to Barnet and also Grimsby home to Barnet), I think Grimsby will win by a narrow margin.

Grimsby got ripped off earlier as the goalie on Bristol's side handballed outside of his area wrecking a Grimsby scoring chance but ref ignored it.

The game went to penalties and Bristol subbed a keeper just beforehand like in the World Cup Netherland-Costa Rica match. All shots went in except Pittman (Grimsby) missed because of the pressure of shooting after the other team.
This wouldn't of happened if the referee knew goalies can't handle the ball outside of his area!! I've seen goalies sent-off for that and this was a goal scoring opportunity.

Indeed, my favourite footballer ever, never met anyone with a bad word against him. I wish him all the best in his future endeavors. He must have saved Blackburn about 30 points a season when he was there. Best foreign keeper to play in the Premier League after Peter Schmichel.

I believe the two constituents of getting sent off for handling outside the area is denying a clear goalscoring opportunity (which it was) and there being intention to do such. I can't imagine Puddy intended to handle the ball, and the fact that he was rushing out probably mitigates that further.

Almost right. If a handball is not deliberate there is no offence, therefore the defender cannot get sent off for DOGSO (denying obvious goal scoring opportunity).

If the referee considers it was a deliberate handball it is still not necessarily DOGSO.

Just back from the game. Bristol Rovers should have had a penalty in the first half when their forward was booked for diving so it cut both ways. The Mariners keeper caught the Rovers forward as he went past him.

As for pressure of shooting after other teams, well that is a new way to describe an awful penalty!

I was with my friends who were Town fans and i thought the 1-1 result after 120 minutes was about fair, Rover looked dead after 80odd and Grimbsy were shot after 90. It was a decent game with lots of effort but not great quality and the draw was fair result between 2 even teams. Once it goes to penalties anyone can win it.
