Aguero would have been fully deserving of a red card there for a vicious two footed stamp with the intention of causing injury.

Hopefully he'll receive a ban because the referee didn't appear to see it.

it will be interesting. they allowed rooney to get away with a vicious elbow on james mccarthy so we'll have to see.

Vidic also escaped a blatant red card today as well as not conceding a stone wall penalty in the same incident. could coat Stoke dear but no suprise given what we've seen this season.

Stoke were poor again today though.

Di Canio looks like he's not going to be boring on the touchline. Needs a new suit as well.

Man City will surely be massive favourites for the FA cup now.

When I checked the latest capacity of both grounds to meet the safety certificate, I was told:-

Stockport County FC (Edgeley Park)........10.852
FC Halifax Town (The Shay)...................10.061

Though I admit other sources do give slightly higher figures for both grounds. Perhaps Stockport County have more of a fully-seated capacity than most clubs, possibly as a result with the previous ground-share arrangement with Sale Sharks

Based on the timing of the Taylor Report, Stockport would have been implicated during their previous time in the Championship and would have needed an all-seater before the end of the 90s. However, Wikipedia (that super-reliable source ) suggests it was the Valley Parade fire in 1985 that spawned Edgeley Park's transition into a smaller (and far safer) all-seater stadium, with the final work eventually being completed in 2001.

Is there a replay available anywhere for those of us who haven't seen it?

Man City beat Chelsea 2-1 mean is North West final but look more likely that Man City have got they name on trophy, surely FA need to ban Aguero for that tackles on Luiz and feel Chelsea should had penalty in last 5 mins when Kompany pull Torres shirt.

EDIT: Also Wigan will be playing in Europa League next season and they might be doing it as Championship team if they fail to beat drop.

After failing to win the challenge a frustrated Aguero lashed out on David Luiz, stamping with both his feet on to his back in an attempt to cause him injury.

Vidic slipped on the pitch inadvertently tripping another player. That 'foul' started outside of the box with only the momentum of both players bringing them inside.

Yep I saw both incidents. Aguero should have been sent off and should be banned for the final. That should still happen when the incident is reviewed by the authorities. However if he is it does appear to be one rule for some one rule for others.

Vidic slipped but he still upended Jones. Jones went over in the penalty area and Vidic was also the last man.

Was it the 2001-2002 season that last saw Stockport County play in the Championship ?

Mancine agrees with you.

Journalist - Penalty to Fernando Torres?

Mancini- "For me it was a foul for us. It was a penalty for us when Yaya went to shoot in the second half."

Van Persie scores for the first time since February 10th - albeit a penalty.

Ref : Man City - remember Wimbledon in 88 :p

West can potentially do us a favour when they play Spenny this week

Darlington are now 22 points clear of Spenneymoor Town, who have 7 games in hand of them owing to their extended run in other competitions. However, Spenneymoor Town will have a somewhat onerous task to fulfill all these outstanding fixtures by the end of the season and this may prove too much for them in terms of both injuries and fitness.

The 12-12-18 dream is now officially over.

BBC Article

Scottish Premier League clubs have failed to vote through a new 12-12-18 model for Scottish football.

An 11-1 club majority was required for the plan to progress to a vote of Scottish Football League clubs scheduled for Friday.

However, both St Mirren and Ross County voted against the proposal at Hampden on Monday.

It is likely that the current make-up of 12-10-10-10 will continue for the next campaign.

More to follow.

I have never thought it a good idea and am pleased that at least two clubs in the SPL have agreed with me. To split the season in two the way they planned is even worse than the current system, and a 12-12-18 that becomes 8-8-8-18 is practically impossible for newcomers to understand anyway.

I feel that something like a 14-14-14 would be better. This would of course create a problem in terms of fixtures, as you are looking at a 39-game season with an imbalance of 20/19 games at home or away, but that can be worked out later. Another idea would be a 16-12-12, although this would reduce the League's size.

Anyhow, the most important thing is that the idea has been quashed, and now the SFA et al will need to try something new.

Nonetheless it;'s about time as far as my fantasy team is concerned. However, as a villa fan I hope it's temporary until after next week!

It does seem that, in Scotland, football is a "product" that not enough people want to watch. Take out Celtic/Rangers fans, and you do not have enough followers to support 40 major league teams, plus the HL and whatever. Tinkering with league numbers is not going to solve anything. Take a leaf out of Rugby's books and go for regional professional teams - would there be enough for more than six regions, playing 20 matches a season?

The Highland League have been quite a good input for new top-level clubs entering the highest level in Scotland, with both Ross County and Inverness Caledonian Thistle currently in the Scottish Premiership proving their pedigree. I am sure that some of the current top Highland League teams would be able to hold their own in the currently established Scottish Third Division, but how many of these would be needed to make equilibrium in lower leagues with regard fixtures, if 10-10 were to be adopted for Scottish Premiership 1 and Scottish Premiership 2 and a new club league structure adopted for a Scottish League 1 and a Scottish League 2.

Suprisingly if you take the total attendance at Scottish Matches as a percentage of the population it is actually higher than it is in England

This is a daft ruling, but one that we've seen time and time again. Nasty 'challenge' (not that I think that it was a challenge for the ball by any means!) but if the ref says he's seen (at least part of) it, then no retrospective action can be taken.

Chris Foy saw at least part of the incident and acted on it during the match

So if a ref saw part of an incident but not the full incident, they cant punish the player for the part the ref didnt see. Totally ridiculous. Rugby has its citing for such incidents which seems to be a huge success.

Absolutely spot on Rich. If even part of it is seen during the game by the ref, or some action is taken (however mis-guided it may look afterwards), then it is case closed, move on because something was done at the time. Not the first time, won't be the last!

That would spell the end for Scottish football. In the 80's Hibs were subject to a takeover by Wallace Mercer, owner of Hearts. This resulted in a huge backlash from Hibs supporters and many Hearts supporters. Death threats, protests, conspiracy theories, eventually Mercer gave up, but was never forgiven by the Cabbage. Similarly Inverness Caledonian Thistle were founded in 1994 as a merger between Highland League Inverness Thistle and Caledonian F.C. This was part of a deal to get an Inverness club into the Scottish Football League. Many fans of both teams did not agree with the deal and simply stopped following football altogether, or began supporting the other Inverness team, Clachnacuddin. Many in the Scottish game will tell you that this is still reflected today in the poor home attendances at Inverness. Note that Ross County from nearby Dingwall have a slightly higher average home attendance than Caley Thistle, despite Dingwall being approximately 1/10th of the size if Inverness.

Mergers do not work. I think most fans of Dundee, Dundee United and St Johnstone would find it difficult to go out and support a Tayside United side.

As mentioned earlier, the percentage population that attend football matches is much higher in Scotland than in England. However unsustainable that may be, reforming into regional "super teams" (Forfar and Montrose would be a force to be reckoned with..) would obliterate Scottish football history, and kill the game stone dead. Raith Rovers, Cowdenbeath and Dunfermline would never entertain a merger to form Fife United. Distributing more evenly what feeble money Scottish football gets would be a major leap in progress.

Very glad that this stupid 12-12-18 idea is dead in the water, disturbed that the iron 'tache voted yes though. Also confounded that Sevco are demanding a say in the SPL vote, despite the fact that Sevco have never played in the SPL. Even if it went to SFL vote, as a mere associate member (still with no 3 years accounts) they would not be permitted a vote under the SFL regulations.

Lee and Gary Johnson will become only the second father and son to face each other as opposing managers when Oldham take on Yeovil on Tuesday.

Bill Dodgin (Bristol Rovers) and Bill Dodgin Jr (Fulham) are the only duo to have previously done so, the last of their five meetings coming in 1971

This will be tomorrow night, wander who Mrs Johnson will be supporting, husband or son?
