Yup. Disgraceful act.

Some people argue that he served five years and has done his time. Well compare the consequences to that of the Merseyrail guard who will now probably have no decent career prospect in front of him.

Only in football ... (and for that I have some (not too much mind ;)) ill-feeling towards Notts Clownty who kept him in a life-style many people could only dream of).

You have indentified a valid observation which could be applied to Football in general particularly at the higher level.

Whilst admission prices and other associated costs continue to rise for the average fan in the midst of a recession they seem unable or unwilling to connect these rises with the inflated salaries played to players.

Business people are lambasted and castigated for huge salaries even when running unprofitable enterprises , yet footballers often earning far more from Clubs that are losing money somehow slip under the radar.

Strange world !!

Ah well never mind - if not for the controversial penalty decision I'm sure you would have won:lol:

I'm not going to say that questionable decision led us to ruin or even the goal just before half time but is it OTT to have officials which are fair and neutral?

Rub it in....Albion beat Chelsea :p

I don't mind West Brom doing well. More annoyed with Everton losing tbh.

Worried man - mark hughes - QPR lose to Southampton !!!

Undoubtedly. But I don't see what that has to do with us

Rub it in further you're in the bottom three - Lambert out Mcleish back ???

Our defeat at the hands of Southampton was much worse than this one overall. Sure we may have let in five against Manchester City but it was very unlikely we'd get something out of the game. McLeish was a terrible manager for us, we'd go one down and basically resign ourselves to losing there and then, at least we still have some fight under Lambert. That said, no managerial changing will do us good without some fresh blood in and West Brom are showing (at the moment) that you don't need to break the bank to get good players. My guess is that either Lerner is still cautious after O'Neill went mad with the finances or he's decided he can't make money and no longer cares about the club.

It's a sad day for football when money plays a huge part in dictating whether or not you're successful.

When was the last time a football club was bailed out with taxpayers' money?

Footballers aren't messing around with my money though. If I feel football is too overpriced I don't buy a ticket and since I don't have sky tv I'm making a minimal contribution to their salaries.
Business people (let's face it businessmen) are/were messing about with my money, whether they're using money I have saved on the stock markets or lending it to someone else who may or may not be a risk. Of course it's not just my money or even real, physical money. Energy companies cover their losses in trading futures and derivatives by passing the bill onto the consumer. Whilst it's arguable football clubs do that in ticket prices I again have the option of not paying for a ticket.

Happens every time a club goes into administration because of tax debts and the "football creditors" are given priority.

In United Kingdom law, the administration regime is governed by the Insolvency Act 1986, as amended by the Enterprise Act 2002.
IIRC (and I am very rusty) didn't that mean that HMRC ceased to be preferential creditors? But the FA regulations state that football creditors (other clubs and players) take precedence in settlement. Either way, most of the clubs in trouble seem to get that way by failing to pay tax dues - and end up not paying tax dues in full, which is (IMHO) ripping off the general public and the equivalent of a bail-out (considering how few clubs actually cease trading).

... And Luke Varney's just been dismissed for an apparently elbowing a Millwall player. With things like this, does it surprise anyone why Leeds find it so hard to lose the 'Dirty Leeds' tag?

We will, don't you worry about that. Whether or not we make it back up to the SPL though I don't really mind, it's actually rather fun in the lower leagues, and the SPL / SFA have made their bed and most lie in it (sorry Killie!). Didn't one of Kilmarnock's senior backroom staff reckon they needed to ship 1,000 more season tickets this year to cover the costs lost of not playing Rangers 3 / 4 times?

They're actually based in Stenhousemuir.

How long have East Stirlingshire been sharing the Ochilview Park stadium of Stenhousemuir FC now ?

Since the start of the 2008-2009 season IIRC. They left Firs Park in Falkirk at the end of 2007-2008 (it had been their home since 1921), which was demolished in January this year to make way for housing I think.

Totally different jobs. One being a safety critical roll the other not. The two do not compare.

However Ive never thought him a very good footballer anyway.

Cant believe the mackems won let alone scored 3.

Has it been demolished ? - I'll have to nip round and see as I only live minutes from there.

Wow. You really need to have seen the game.

It was never a red, never in a million years! The reason Leeds find it hard to lose that tag is because of people like you. You didn't even watch the game but you came out with that rubbish.

Tell me, did you hear about the Millwall fans pelting the assistant ref? So much so that the ref ACTUALLY STOPPED THE GAME to report it! Imagine if that was Leeds fans? Dirty Leeds fans? You'd be going mental about it and so would the media. The same assistant then failed to give a stone wall penalty...........nice intimidation from your friendly Millwall friends.

I suppose you didn't hear the Istanbul chants, the kebab knife stab chants, the always look out for turks carrying knives chants, the turkey flags and Galatasaray shirts or the 11 year old that's in hospital with glass in her face after a bus window was put through by those friendly Millwall fans.

Imagine if all that was by Leeds fans. Check your head mate and learn some facts. Today was a dark day in football but unlike the Sheff Wed game, the media don't want to know because it's not dirty, nasty Leeds being bad. Sadly mate, people like you who pass judgement WITHOUT EVEN SEEING THE GAME don't help at all. Nice one mate.

I did see the incident on one of the sports channels. Luke Varney was just in front of the Millwall player, both of them facing the ball as it came towards them. All I can say was that arms were raised , but would not make a hard and fast decision based upon that brief viewing from the angle that the television camera portrayed. It may well have been totally different when viewed on the other side of the incident, which is where the elbow in question was. What was the view from sight angle of the referee of the incident?

Wishing to play Devils Advocate, if in this same match, the roles had been reversed and the Leeds United player had gone down, would you still have been of the same opinion that the Millwall player should not have received a red card ?

Sounds like QPR are now looking for a new manager ....

Posted at 1945 on the live football feed for tonights match ....

London Evening Standard football correspondent James Olley has tweeted that it "sounds like QPR have sacked [manager] Mark Hughes". We've spoken to a press officer at the club, who could not confirm this is the case. If we hear anything more, you'll be the first to know.

Mark Hughes has reportedly been relieved of his duties as manager of Queens Park Rangers.

The Welshman's position at Loftus Road has come under intense scrutiny following Saturday's 3-1 defeat to fellow strugglers Southampton.

That result has left the R's, who are bottom of the Premier League, still searching for the first win this season.

There has been no official comment from the club, although Hughes is believed to have held a two-hour meeting with chief executive Philip Beard earlier today rather than take training.

Since then, a number of media outlets have claimed that owner Tony Fernandes has finally ran out of patience with the 49-year-old.

As a result, a number of bookmakers have stopped taking bets on Hughes being the next Premier League manager to be sacked

I saw the game on tv Sunday and I do agree it was a harsh red card BUT I think the reason why he was sent off was what he done before the ball got to him, turned and look to see where the Millwall player was, if he hadn't looked and then caught him then it would of been free kick Milleall, maybe a word in Varney's ear and that it.

What the Millwall fans done was unfair and unjust and should be dealt with accordingly and the reason, imo, why the media are not jumping on the back of Millwall is because the Millwall board know the previous reputation of the club and are working hard to get rid of these mindless people (you can't call them fans as they are not) and if they get told about it they will deal with it when the information is there. I don't know if Leeds are doing the same as you don't hear about it.

Sorry, but this often expressed point of view is wrong. It's like saying the berks who stand next to the platform edge to take their videos are not rail enthusiasts. These people are football fans who seize the opportunities provided at a football match to spew out hatred in their own special way. And this is only different in degree from the Luton fans who say they "hate" Watford, the Wednesday fans who "hate" United, etc etc, To an outside observer, it sometimes seems that being a football fan requires one to hate, or at least to feign an appearance of hate. And this is encouraged, as fans showing their "passion" or some such guff. The phenomenon is exaggerated in a fixture like Leeds/Millwall, where sections of both sets of supporters have a twisted reputation for being outrageous. To get rid of these unsavoury types, football needs to get rid of institutionalised hate altogether.

So it appears UCL holders Chelsea are now in very real danger of crashing out in the group stages (though into the Europa League). I seem to remember a lot of Chelsea fans though Di Matteo was the Saviour, I wonder how many are still of that opinion now. Don't forget league form's slipped also.
