This result, in front of a good attendance of 936, consolidated Bury's league position of third in the table.

Top of the table, Lower Breck, suffered their third consecutive league defeat, losing 0-1 away at Darleston.

Second-placed Runcorn Linnets were held to a 1-1 draw by Nantwich Town.

Kidderminster win 4-3 on penalties

Started well, scored after ten minutes, then sort of faded away. Conceded with ten minutes to go, and when it went to penners our abject penalty taking returned with a vengeance

So, not quite good enough in the cup. Which means we can now concentrate on being not quite good enough in the league

Darlington 3 v Merthyr Town 1

A great win for Darlo against a side going really well in the league. We went a goal down but gradually took control of the game and ran out comfortable winners.

7 points from 9 this week and 5th in the league. Broke the Chorley curse last weekend and go to Southport next, somewhere we haven't won since the 1970's!

Just been having a discussion on famous deep-lying centre forwards who played years ago. I think that di Stefano of Real Madrid fell into that category. Can anyone on here name others from that same time period?

An attendance of 3,236 saw bottom of the table Trafford overwhelmed by a Bury side at the other end of the table and were 0-6 down at half time.

This result takes Bury up to second in the table and certainly improves their goal difference statistic.

Stockbridge Steels Park 1 ... Hyde United 1

Goal-less at half time, then Hyde took the lead in the 70th minute, but three minutes before the end, Stockbridge equalised. A point each for these teams at the wrong end of the table, but Hyde have remained unbeaten since the recent appointmen of Michael Clegg as manager.

I would say Nándor Hidegkuti, from the legendary Hungarian team that won 6-3 at Wembley in 1953. When there was all the nonsense about Guardiola creating this amazing new position of a "false 9" with Messi or Fabregas, it was rather amusing to point out that it had been done over 50 years before.

The matter was made even worse the following year for the England football team. On 23rd May 1954 in the match played at the Nepstadion in Budapest, the score was....

Didn't help that Trafford FC had a defender sent off after seven minutes. Looking increasingly likely that Bury and Trafford will be heading in different/opposite directions at the end of the season.

Southport 2 v Darlington 2 - we haven't won at Southport since 1743 but this was one of the better results. Sadly gave away an injury time equaliser so this feels like both 2 points lost but a good point on the road

Soft, lazy players, poor recruitment, revolving door of managers, unrealistic expectations based on history and spend profile, FAR too easy to beat, defensively shambolic ( that Romero is a world cup winner ffs!) no obvious culture/identity, no plan/strategy ( I hate "culture" in relation to football but you know what I mean) and failure to replace key players with players of a similar quality ( Kane, Son Heung-min etc)

If I were Andy King, I'd field a weaker team on Saturday and focus on the league. Southampton don't really have anything to play for so I'd expect they'd go all out for a good FA Cup run.

Couldn't agree more.
Spurs are just a luxury sports and entertainment venue with a below average football club attached, which seems to be a bit of an inconvenience to the owner.....who last attended a match over 10 years ago.
After so many managers but the exact same outcome, the spotlight needs to be turned on the people making these appointments and those who are behind the investment decisions.

In other news north of the border, Hearts pinched the Edinburgh derby last night with a late, neatly taken goal by Magnusson to win 1-0 and restore the 6 points lead at the top. It sparked a very animated goal celebration from our manager, involving the "lucky ball boy", who has featured in a couple of Tynecastle victory celebrations earlier this season. McInnes joked afterwards that his parents were going to take out a court order to stop him hugging their son!
Closest chasers Rangers face a tough gig at Fir Park, Motherwell tonight, where the home side haven't conceded a goal since October, so the bluenoses won't automatically get anything there......and then the showdown is on Sunday teatime, when Hearts play Rangers at Ibrox. If we win that, I might just start to dream that this could actually happen........

I was behind the goal that the wee Bobby Ball lookalike scored in, about 15m away. We bottled it that day, and I've still not forgiven John Colquhoun for not passing when we had a 2 v 1 at 0-0. I'm not a great fan of St Mirren from that day either. No-one has ever found out how much they got....
There would be a certain symmetry if we did win it 40 years on, but also if we lost it the same way. There's also the entire establishment to beat, as well as win on the field. Every single ref, every linesman, every SFA official is either one of them, or one of you.....
We'll see what happens over the next 12 games ....

Forest 0–0 Wolves

What a bizarre game Forest had 35 shots most of them more danger to the Trent than the net at one point they had six v one defender and the ball ended up in the stand. Wolves were utterly dreadful and yet should have won it on the break in injury time. This all proved too much for Forest’s combustible owner and now they move onto manager number four for the season.

Hyde United 5 ... Hednesford Town 0

Second-place Hednesford Town must have expected an easy win against a Hyde side in the bottom three, who had not won for ages. However, under their new manager Michael Clegg, Hyde had drawn his first three games in charge.
Hyde were 2-0 up at half-time and scored three more in the second half. This result would help the Hyde confidence level...and their goal difference statistic.

A couple of years ago, both sides were in the North West Counties Football League, Premier Division and both were subsequently promoted to this higher level. Matches had a recent habit in recent years of being cloely-fought affairs and Bury scored the only goal of the game in the 16th minute. This result moves Bury to the top of the league tonight. Bury took a sizeable number of fans and that attendance was given as 1,075.

Took till the 88th minute to find a way past a stubborn but limited Truro team, but a win is a win and we’re still in the last playoff place, albeit Southen are likely to overtake us thanks to their games in hand. 21 goals for the season now for Will Harris, and that’s with three missed penalties

Bury have just appointed one of the chuckle brothers from Radcliffe. For the first time Anthony Johnson will not be joint manager with his mate Bernard Morley who has remained at Radcliffe.

Shifnal Town 0 ... Bury FC 2

Quite a good attendance at Coppice Green Lane of 549 on a very cold Wednesday night and Bury scored in the 75th and 77th minutes. They have now won four league games on the run and now have a goal difference of +31.

Whilst this result consolidated Bury's top spot in the league, it must be remembered that Avro in second place are four points behind, but now with two games in hand.

there was a decent crowd in to see Darlo make about 578 chances, take none and then give a last minute penalty away to lose 1-0. We rarely get anything on the long mid week trips. Tough for players to work and then travel to the game.
