Going to need these now we are going to Wembley! Wonder if EC will put on an extra train like they did the last tie we went to Wembley. Darlo Express!
Intresting that we are playing Mansfield - i guess they would have to arrnage charters where as an extras service train should do the job on the East Coast.
Too much to expect a special direct to London/Wembley i guess! Wonder if the Pretendolino is free that weekend?

Hey - i will have you know that we REGULARLY fill at least 1200 of those seats!
If only we were still at feethams!
The last home game (Spain midweek?) we were certainly turned away at the barriers and told to go on the football special. From what I could see, everyone in kilts was getting told the same, and those in civvies were getting let through.

FA Cup Semi Finals at Wembley: Saturday/Sunday 16/17 April 2011
Virgin Trains is urgently working with clubs involved in the FA Cup semi finals over the weekend of 16/17 April 2011 to ensure thousands of supporters can travel to and from London quickly and safely.
Virgin Trains has already confirmed five charter trains and is advising clubs on how to charter further trains from other companies. Supporters are recommended to get in touch with their respective travel clubs to find out details of charters that are either confirmed or are being planned.
Chris Gibb, Virgin Trains Chief Operating Officer said today: Moving large numbers of people after any big evening sporting event poses particular challenges for the rail industry especially coming together as the same weekend as the London Marathon and another large football match. The use of charter trains brings as much capacity as possible into use, means fans can have confidence in their travel arrangements and clubs are able to look after their supporters.
Those not travelling by charter services will still be able to travel by Virgin Trains to both matches with extra trains planned from Euston after both the Saturday and Sunday matches. Clearly, however, with each Pendolino train capable of carrying a maximum of 439 seated passengers, but with a crowd of around 80,000 expected for both matches, supporters are being encouraged to make use of charter services organised through their respective clubs.

Good to see some fellow Sunderland fans on here!
I've been on a handful of 'modern day' Football Specials with mixed experiences. It would be great if each game could have a Footex, but as the stock aint there and that alcohol cannot be consumed on bona-fide Footex trains and that the Police seem to be out in force the fans the BTP want out of the way will not use the footex. (hope that makes sense)
With Sunderland I have been on a Special from London Bridge to South Bermonsley (Millwall) which was an experience never to be forgotten!
I went on a Footex from Edinburgh to Newcastle after a Hibs freindly (not the infamnous one, but still nasty) when an additional GNER was put on taking SAFC fans back. The thuggish minority were out in force and the police were disgusting when we crossed the bridge to a baton charge on one side and bottles and chairs from The Centurion on the other side oddly for a special alcohol was on sale.
I also was on a Northern Footex after a freindly at Carlisle which was advertised as going to Newcastle, then Sunderland but which was re-routed omiting Newcastle at King Edward Bridge junction. Again this was not a very nice experience as the pass comm's were pulled on departure, people were asked to leave the train only for the Police to baton charge and use pepper spray. The crew only took the train after the BTP got on and stood guard at the pass comm's. Seemingly some of the 'fans' were desparate to get to Newcastle to meet up with Newcastle fans and there was a scuffle once it was obvious it was bang road to Sunderland with the doors forced open at Heworth and where the train emptied.
I used an unadvertised Footes after a Boro match where I was one of about 5 passengers non-stop to Sunderland after the BTP had hearded everybody else onto the scheduled service which was embarrasing and reeked of bad planning!
The second last time Whitley Bay got to Wembley for the FA Vase (against Glossop North End) I used the Footex from Newcastle and enjoyed some rare class 90 haulage down the ECML, which terminated at Kings Cross instead of Wembley as somebody had 'forgot' about engineering work!
Sorry to have gone on a bit, but somebody mentioned that Sunderland and Newcastle would not be allowed to play on the same day in away games I remember a FA Cup weekend where Sunderland had played Ipswich away, Middlesbrough had played a London team and IIRC Newcastle had played away to Liverpool on a late kick off. SAFC fans boarded the same train as the Boro fans had got on, and by the time it got to York a load of Newcastle fans boarded, so we had the big two plus Middlesborough, that was fun being diverted via Stillington (at least I got a 67)

I recall many years ago on one of my first working outings on site being in Flitwick box (yes - that long ago) on the day Chelsea had been playing at Forest. It was around 7 in the evening and the bobby at Fliwick got a call from his mate at the adjacent box to stop the next down train which happened to be a returning footy special full of Chelsea herberts.
So the train rolls to a stop at Flitwicks starter signal just as the rear coach passed the box and there looking a bit dissapointed and suprised at so many railway guys present was one of the said herberts peering out of the open corridor connection. Clearly they had got the end door open and had been taking turns to do a a bit of surfing all the way from Nottm. They were soon on their way having manged to get them locked in. I presume they hadn't lost any out the back on the way down from Sharnbrook summit.
