I've have commented a lot recently about food on board trains, especially in First Class.

Why is it that Avanti, LNER, Transport for Wales and Trans Pennine Express can provide hot meals in First Class, yet GWR (Pullman excepted), ScotRail, Cross Country* can barely put together a sandwich?

*I think Cross Country does a bacon roll

Hopefully this is something GBR will fix (and hopefully use LNER as a template (YEMV)) so that First Class is something to look forward to, whatever route you are on.

What do you think?

I did 1024 Liverpool-York this week on TPE in First Class (802), at club 55 rates, food included.
They had a very good breakfast menu (valid before 1100), and I had the blueberry pancakes - very nice.
But I was told it was the "leftovers" from breakfast, as they were on the mid-day menu.
I returned from York on the "Castleford flyer" (185) which avoids Leeds, and there was no food provision at all, not even a trolley.
I just wish the offer was more consistent. I had to resort to Upper Crust/Costa (paid) on the return trip

This was the menu in the 802:

I can confirm Cross Country do a bacon roll. Had one recently. Was a decent price, nothing special, but filled a hole.
