Can anyone with more knowledge than myself tell me if any of the FOC's have depots in the South East? Specifically I am thinking South of London/within an hour of Brighton.
I am hoping to apply for a position with a FOC in the near future but fear I might never make it past the initial sift due to my location (Brighton). The current DBS vacancy asks applicants to include the depot they are applying for in the email title/subject, and their address in the body of the email. From this I conclude they are going to do their first sift based on location alone as soon as they open the email, without even having to open the attached application form file.
Hither Green is the closest DBS depot on the list of site's they have vacancies at, but I fear the distance from Brighton to Hither Green will be outside of what they deem acceptable, making any application a waste if time.
I am willing to locate to anywhere in the country as I have no ties to any particular area at the moment, no wife/girlfriend/children etc. However there is no option on the application form to state that you are willing to re-locate, so I guess this means they are not interested in anyone currently living outside the depot catchment area and that they have enough applicants that they can be this specific.
It is a shame as I currently do volunteer work in London and if necessary, through this work, I have full time accommodation available to me in London where I could 'live', I just can't use it as a postal address and this is what they will go off for the application sift. I also currently commute to Northern France for work, so I'm not adverse to travelling a fair distance to work.
If anyone answers my first question that there are no freight depots near me then I guess I either have to give up the dream of working on the freight side of things and start looking at the Southern website, or I need to take a huge gamble and move closer to a freight depot and cross every part of my body that a vacancy becomes available that I can apply for.
If anyone can't specifically answer my queries, but has other information that may be of use to me, I'd be interested to hear from you.
