It was delayed at Cam and Dursley due to this situation. Not on;y Flyimg Scotsman but service trains have also been delayed all the way up to Gloucester. Despite all the warnings they still can't keep away from the tracks.

Were any specific local warnings given, though? Hopefully efforts will be made to prevent a repeat when it runs along the same route on Tuesday.

(Edit) Just found the Gloucestershire Live website, how many subscribers that site has I'm not sure, but clearly their warnings were unheeded.

I've just heard on the radio that running times for Flying Scotsman are not to be published in future due to the latest stupidity, quite what that means in reality I don't know as it was only a very limited news item, looks as though the thoughtless morons have won the day again

I hope some of them are members of this Forum and they can then get to find out what people think of them. Spoil things for everybody else.

I wonder how much longer the ORR will tolerate this mass trespass evertime this particular kettle runs and decides enough is enough as the risk of injury/death is too high for their risk appetite and instruct NR to cancel all future runs

Not much chance of that, it would cause far too much adverse publicity. I'd have thought the issue of the delay minutes would have been the most concerning to NR.

If I were on the footplate of the Scotsman I'd be refusing to move even if cautioned.

Hope that video link works. The guy says he was stood on the crossing but he clearly wasn't. It looks like when it's gone too that people are milling around as though they're not on a live railway line and nothing will come along and flatten them.

Has anyone made the BTP aware of this video, there must be enough evidence to prosecute the tool, he has even filmed the fact he was trespassing well away from the actual crossing he says he was stood on, which is in itself an offence.

Yes - BTP were tagged in on a number of Twitter postings which included the link to the video. Given that several faces were clearly shown, plus of course the person himself can be traced through his Facebook* account, I would hope ( but not expect ) that there will be a number of arrests shortly.

*Assuming Facebook do not yet again fail to co-operate with the authorities over the identification of criminals using their network...

Why the ORR is the Safety body for the railway, adverse publicity should not come into their descision making process.

Why don't the BTP conduct a huge "sting" for the next run - swamp the route with officers, arrest on sight all trespassers then if they are found guilty publish their names and faces in the enthusiast press.

We travelled on the evening Flying Scotsman trip from Newport on Friday 19 May.

Left Newport on time and ran to schedule up to Gloucester. Thousands of people en route - Severn Tunnel Junction and Chepstow stations in particular were rammed - all waving and taking photos but no problems and no trespassers AFAIK. Beautiful evening, great scenery and a nice atmosphere on board, everyone enjoying the trip. Gloucester Station was packed but all the passengers who wanted to get close to the locomotive was able to do so during the 25 minutes layover.

Then the problems started. A very sharp braking about 5 minutes after departure from Gloucester and we stopped for several minutes. Moved off and just as we were building up speed another sudden stop for a bit longer. This time on departure there was an announcement that due to lineside trespassers we were now required to proceed at caution. Darkness was falling by then but I observed several groups right by the line on the up side, one group including a young child just after a Cross Country service to Nottingham had passed.

We arrived at Bristol well over an hour late and were asked to remain on board while the Scotsman was removed and the Diesel Loco attached for the final leg to Newport in the hope of making up some time. Everybody complied but there was further delay, I think because an empty Cross Country train had to be moved from the adjacent line. Arrived at Newport about 75 minutes late. Some people had missed their last trains or buses and the group opposite us were having to wait till 00.39 for a Swansea service. The stewards did an excellent job advising on onward travel and said that anyone who had to use a taxi could write in and request reimbursement.

If British Transport Police had been on board in force or around in numbers with vans there could have been dozens of arrests. The trip was marred for those of us on board by these idiots and the future of such trips if this continues to happen must be in jeopardy.

Flying Scotsman timetable kept secret to deter trespassing fans

Timetables for the Flying Scotsman will no longer be put online by an operator, in a bid to stop fans trespassing.
Hundreds of people turned out to watch the famous locomotive as it passed through the West Country on Friday.
But its journey from Gloucester to Bristol was delayed by almost an hour, due to about 50 people trespassing on the line near Cam and Dursley.
Operator Steam Dreams said it had been "advised" not to publish details of when the Scotsman was running.
British Transport Police tweeted on Friday that "numerous people on the tracks" had delayed the Flying Scotsman and advised that "that a good pic is not worth endangering your life".
The locomotive is due to make a return trip through the West on Tuesday but the operator said the timings would "not be made available online".
"In order to avoid overcrowding and incidents of trespass we have been advised not to publish recommended viewing points or the timetable of when the train will be passing through specific locations," it said in a statement.
'Children near line'
It went on to say that it would also not be giving out "any timetable or route details" through its booking office.
Marcus Robertson, chairman of Steam Dreams, said trespassing on railway lines "to get a better photograph of a train" was "incredibly dangerous".
"Last year we did have a few problems with trespass but [on Friday] there were people with children near the line - and these are 125mph railways," he said.
"We've heard from Network Rail and the BTP, and on our runs next week - in the same areas - there will be far more police activity."

Is it possible that doing that might backfire and actually increase the trespassing and/or cause overcrowding at stations?

Today's run looks to have run punctually, though the following train, 2C18 picked up some delay in the Standish/Stonehouse area, anyone know whether this was trespass related?

Do they ever catch any of the trespassers? and if so, what punishments do they get? I think, as has been said before, that they should have their equipment confiscated, get a large fine and perhaps jail time too. Hopefully that may act as a deterrent/

I didn't realise they were published online on their website anyway, I couldn't find it, just a departure and arrival time?

They normally put the finalised timings on their website a few days when they get them from NR. Perhaps Flying Scotsman timings can just be given out on board the trains and no main route details published and passengers asked not to disclose the boarding/arrival times.
