Flying Scotsman being towed

Apologies if this has been asked before. When Scotsman relocates from one area to another, ie York to Tyseley a few weeks ago it was towed by a diesel. A few weeks later Tornado made the same journey but from Darlington on her own. Why does Scotsman need special treatment ?

Normally kept hush hush as NR get twitchy about people lineside for its moves.

Its does usually show up on RTT on the day it's going to move.

Why is Scotsman sometimes deisel piloted ? Because the companies who are being asked to make the move don't always have a steam safety case to operate steam locomotives on the main line

An engine can be towed in steam,As long as it has a current boiler certificate ,and has passed an FTR, but its only for lubrication it can't, or shouldn't provide its own traction,

To be able to operate a steam engine over NR metals, the company operating it has to have an additional safety case in its operational set up with ORR to operate steam traction, as of now, only three have it, West Coast, LSL, and DBC, Eastern rail are seeking to add steam to its porfolo,

Any other organisation, That's registered with NR can move a steam loco on NR, It can be in steam, but should not be used to provide traction, if you don't have the required permission to operate a steam loco on NR.

All 3 of those companies with safety cases have been known to diesel haul steam locos regardless of the fact they could have run them in full steam - it saves on water and coal, as well as saving moving the diesel separately if it's needed for the tour anyway.
Also I'm fairly sure the NYMR have their own safety case, which is also used by the NNR when running Sheringham to Cromer specials (or certainly was the case a few years ago).

It should be at York station twice on Wednesday (16th) if that's any use, as it's doing charters Scarborough to York and York to Derby. (Diesel one way, Scotsman the other & vice versa).
