Hi guys
Does anyone know the timings for Flying Scotsman's tour to Canterbury tomorrow yet? Hoping to see the return trip but Steam Dreams only gives a very vague departure time of 6:50pm. I take it this ambiguity is an attempt reduce potential tresspassers?

I was hoping to see the outgoing service, but having the same problem. According to the Steam Dreams website they are keeping it a secret from all but the passengers, so you need to track one down

I’ve got a friend who’s booked on the afternoon tour which is a round trip from Canterbury West to Ashford via Deal and Dover Priory then at Ashford it reverses back to CBW ready for its later return to London.
He tells me the afternoon trip departs CBW at 13.40, so as I want to see it it near Sandwich that gives me a rough idea of the time.

Does anyone even know what route its taking on the return trip? Canterbury West to London Victoria would point towards the Maidstone East line, but is there any confirmation of this?

There is an 1101 schedule from Victoria, via ME, which passes Ashford at 1237 but then goes to Folkestone. It would seem feasible for it to go to CW, arriving about 30 minutes later but maybe too tight for a 1340 departure?

According to Kent Live (dated 15th March), FS will leave Victoria at 0844 and arrive at CW at 1142. It will depart CW at 1849 and arrive Victoria at 2144. I thought I had seen some sort of time like this but it had been removed later.

I've been waiting at Victoria for ages. it was meant to arrive on platform 8 at 0815 but was stuck behind a broken down train!

Water stop at Paddock Wood takes up half an hour.

I'm a bit concerned for the stop at Tonbridge, booked to use platform 1 at the same time as 2T63, with 2W66 booked to use platform 2.

The water stop is normally at Headcorn, Paddock Wood down platform doesn't have easy access for the tankers. I've done an emergency coalling at Headcorn with coal bought from the K&esr to rescue an engine that was delayed in West London and didn't have enough left to reach Margate.

Can anyone advise. Just seen Flying Scotsman through Paddock Wood looking utterly fantastic. Blokes at work are all saying she was being pushed by the loco on the back. I’d like to think she was not but I can’t be certain.

The Down water stop's booked to have been done at Edenbridge (which seems a curious choice itself), Headcorn was booked a photo op, it's the Up one that's booked for Paddock Wood, presumably with the tanker in the car park.

Edenbridge does seem to be a sound choice to me. The down platform is easily accessible from the main road and the line only has the hourly shuttle service between Redhill and Tonbridge.
Headcorn has the through lines which allows freight etc to overtake the charter but the platform occupancy has to take in to account the 2tph service.

Ah, that's right, I was thinking of the up platform, on an embankment with a narrow road and houses at the bottom.

It's hard to be certain without seeing and hearing it, often a diesel just providing ETH will be mistaken for powering, people expecting it to be dead and silent, but I wouldn't rule it out with it running late.

This clip at Headcorn suggests the diesel was only providing ETH and holding it's own weight, not pushing the train. However at Paddock Wood the diesel may have kicked in, so again can't be certain without hearing the diesel.

Thanks for the answers about the banking engine. At Paddock Wood there was little sign of blast steam from the flue so she must have been getting some assistance.
Still looked marvellous though.
Going back to see the watering stop.

Saw 60103 passing Godstone station last night on it’s way back to London, with 47804 humming along at the rear. The former seemed to be steaming very nicely, whilst the latter didn’t seem to be doing anything other than ticking over.
