Flying goals.

I’ve achieved a few of mine.

First Class across the Atlantic in an A380.

Top deck of a 747 (both BA and Lufthansa, the latter of which is still possible).

Flying into Milford Sound grass airstrip on a small plane (got lucky and was sat next to the pilot).

Missed out on a float plane trip in Vancouver though, as the plane crashed an hour before our trip with everyone having to be pulled out of the water!

We have also done a top of the BA jumbo before covid I never pay for seat selection on principal but I did pay this time and never regretted it.
The last longhaul was 1st on BA A380 with buddy dining and a first class only air bridge which was rather fun and we have enough Avios to do it again when the A380s are finally refurbished

The buddy dining was a real treat, though I could have done with a bit more of a gap since an equally pleasant meal in the Concorde Room.

Well I have done LHR, LGW many years ago and recently (2 weeks ago) did STN London Stanstead and have just booked flights to LCY London City and also LTN London Luton- so by early September will just have London Southend to do. That one is not as easy.

It's the only London airport I have flown into on a turbo prop. All other London airports were jets.

I have realised that I do have a flying goal: a trip on a Dakota.

I missed the trips out of Coventry but when I last looked there were Belgian and Danish preservation associations which you could join to get a ride, but both those were suspended for maintenance a while ago. Looking again I just found https://simpleflying.com/dutch-douglas-dakota-flight-guide/ but that is also dated 2022 so I may have missed the boat (so to speak!)

p.s. a bit more digging has found https://www.visitnorway.com/listings/historical-flights-with-dakota-norway/16387/ and https://dakotanorway.no/2025/07/15/bestill-billetter/ which is about 80 quid... I had better get organised before this one packs up too!

Last month (July 2026) whilst ticking off Tatra trams in the Buda area of Budapest, I heard the sound of a heavy piston prop plane. Looking up, there was the silhouette of a what I thought was a DC3!

I was almost correct.

A quick check on FR24 showed it to be HA-LIX, the last airworthy Lisunov Li-2. These were the Soviet built licenced version of the classic Dakota.
Turns out pleasure flights are available from Budoars Airport at a very reasonable cost.

It's now high up on my own Flight goal list

Well I flew from LCY-GLA (London City to Glasgow yesterday. Embraer 190SR on flight BA8722 plane reg G-LCYL. Great flight and traveled in Business Class courtesy of One Wordl (AA) frequent flier miles. Just LTN and Southend to fly out of now of the London airports.
