FlyGlobespan goes bust

FlyGlobespan, Scotland's largest airline and infamous for being banned at one point from flying over the Atlantic, and for having a number of flights delayed by in excess of one and a half days, has gone into Administration.

I know this is an old thread so hopefully won't get in trouble for bringing back up, but why were they barred from flying over the Atlantic? Safety?

They lost ETOPS rating for 8 days because of an allegation that they had operated a Liverpool to JFK flight when the engine pressure sensors were U/S, which is against the rules governing ETOPS minimum take offf conditions.

Effectively there are certain equipment failures which allow an a/c to fly but certain ones mean that the a/c cannot take off.

I heard that they were being Prosecuted for a breach of the Air Navigation Order by the CAA but not sure how that ended up.

Twas a shame. I didn't actually believe them at first when they were pointing the figure at e-clear; they just seemed like yet another airline that's gone under.

Yep they tried Glasgow-New York flights via Knock in the West of Ireland which lasted very briefly. I always found this interesting. Knock Airport is in the middle of nowhere built on top of a bog, the airport was famously built during the 80s by a local bishop - Monsignor Horan - in order to get visitors into the local shrine and to make it easy for people from that part of the country to emigrate to America, as was the stark reality for many people living in the region back then.

His dream was to get direct flights to the USA, so I guess his dream was finally realised - albeit many years after he died - but how the surrounding area was ever going to support justifiable loadings is beyond me.

Said airport operates successfully with flights to the UK and Dublin.
