FlP (retired) tickets Ventimiglia-Nice and Nice-Marseille.

Buongiorno a tutti! My wife and I will be returning to the UK next Monday/Tuesday 8th/9th June after our Spring sojourn in Italy. Due to engineering works on the Modane route, we shall be travelling via Ventimiglia, Nice, Marseille and Lille. We already have reservations for the Trenitalia InterCity services from Pisa to Genova and Genova to Ventimiglia on the Monday....and from Marseille to Lille Europe on the Tuesday.

However, could anyone with more up-to-date information than me please tell me:

(a) How to obtain FIP (50%) tickets from Ventimiglia to Nice at 19 00....when the ticket office is almost certain to be closed.

and

(b) How to obtain FIP (50%) tickets from Nice to Marseille for the 08 25 TER departure on the Tuesday morning....if indeed FIP fares are still available since the Transdev takeover.

Nice to Marseille is no longer valid for FIP sadly (except by TGV).

This page shows the Ventimiglia ticket office is open until 20:00. You should also be able to buy your ticket at any other Trenitalia ticket office.
The RDG confirm that FIP facilities are not valid on Keolis services.

Nice to Marseille is no longer valid for FIP sadly (except by TGV).

Not fully correct. It's true that the direct TER service between Nice and Marseille is no longer valid with FIP, but if you are willing to change (and make the journey longer), SNCF TER services do still cover the full route on which FIP is valid.

Thanks.....but we have to make a morning connection from Nice into the midday TGV from Marseille to Lille, so unfortunately we don't have that choice!

The Zou fares along the Cote d'Azur are not exactly expensive to begin with, so you're hardly forking out a fortune even if you do have to pay full fare.

Unfortunately, gone are the days when FIP coupons were valid on virtually any train in Europe apart from maybe TEE Trans Europe Express. I definitely made full use of my FIP in the 70's, 80's and 90's.

The Zou fares along the Cote d'Azur are not exactly expensive to begin with, so you're hardly forking out a fortune even if you do have to pay full fare.

We've just booked our Zou tickets on-line - through the SNCF Connect website - for the 08 25 Nice-Marseille next Tuesday morning. 42.50 Euro each in second class....or we could have paid 63.50 each in first. Are all these services now operated by the new units....or are there still one or two class BB 22200/Corail sets covering for late deliveries?

You’re probably aware already, but if your reserved seats on the Genoa to Ventimiglia train are on the right hand side, try to move to any unreserved seats on the left hand side to catch the coastal view. A lot of the line has been diverted inland and through tunnels but there is a few coastal sections left.

Same for the Zou to Nice and onto Marseille the next day. Seats are unreserved so grab some on the left hand side for the scenic coastal view along the Cote d’Azur between Ventimiglia and roughly St Raphael area.

I will be doing the same trip, Genoa to Toulon in September before catching a ferry to Majorca.

Have a good trip back to the UK.
