Couldn't get my Preston tickets for tomorrow refunded at Southport station, as I didn't buy them there. Not much hope of getting a refund from ATW, whose site I booked them on, unless that particular route is also affected by flooding tomorrow.

Oh well, putting it down to experience. When you see what awful things other people are coping with in this weather what's £20?

I will (*attempt to) claim a refund for OH's unused ticket Hereford to Southport though, especially as they now say they will refund if decided not to travel today. *I've just been on their website but it isn't clear whether Advance tickets are included in refunding when disruption is the cause. Their refund claim section isn't particularly user-friendly.

Crewe-Chester reopened earlier following flooding. Now the Crewe-Chester shuttle is suspended again due to a signalling failure.

I'm annoyed now. Just spoke to OH and he said he thinks he could have changed at Shrewsbury for Crewe, from there to Liverpool Sth Parkway and come in on the M/rail Northern Line. I think he would have been okay on all those lines, but I didn't realise there was a frequent Shrewsbury > Crewe service. ATW didn't publish this as an alternative option, or at least not where I was looking.

Whether his ticket would have been accepted on LM is another matter.

Oh well, too late now.

Edit: How stupid of me, of course there are trains from Shrewsbury to Crewe - I've been on them myself often enough, just not getting on at Shrewsbury .

And finally...

Trains from Southport to Preston appear to be cancelled today (26th), with bus replacements on both legs. Presumably I should now be able to get a refund from ATW where I bought them.

I've printed a screenshot of the National Rail page showing the cancellations, so they can see it's genuine. Of course they will probably argue that Northern Rail services are nothing to do with them. We'll see.
