FlickR question

I am sure many will be aware that Flickr are restricting free storage after 9 January
I had thought that in anyones collection over 1000 photos , numbers 1001 onwards would be deleted
I have two Flickr accounts (dont ask me how ) one with 1823 photos and the other with about 300
Have spent the last month moving pics so that each of my collections have as near as dammit to 1,000 each
However , there is a message saying no uploads allowed after 9 Jan to accounts with more than 1,000
What I read into this is that sites with say 1,100 pics will be " frozen " but nothing deleted . Am I right ?

No anything above 1000 photos will also be deleted and you won't be able to upload more.

The advantages of cloud storage are that (a) it's easier to share your pictures; and (b) there's always the chance that whatever gets your computer also gets your external storage.

I was in a similar dilemma with over 15000 photos on Flickr. I just transferred them to Google Photos.

You could just transfer them to Google Photos and use the Unlimited feature. The catch is: max resolution for photos is 16 meg after which it'd be downsized; likewise for videos - any size video with max resolution limit as 1080p after which it'd be downsized as well.

That's a small catch for what basically is unlimited storage for photos and videos.

Also, if you're reasonably tech savvy, you can roll-your-own using Amazon AWS or Google Cloud. Storage is pretty cheap - you get 5GB for free and it's $0.02/GB/month for up to 50TB on S3.
